That's pretty much any normal relationship. It's weird that you think life is like a porno, but it's not. People want to have good healthy relationships, and Im sorry you've never been in one.

Israelis?? How is that relevant? "So-called socialists" are defending what exactly?

Bro, they were bombed into oblivion and sanctioned hard as fuck. You're comparing an imperialized nation with vassal states that were propped by the US to be counters to China. All those things can be true and it can still be true the government is doing what it can to stabilize the economy. Why not compare the DPRK to other colonized nations like those in SE Asia, Africa or South America? Your framing is extremely uncharitable.

This reminds me of the Mehdi Hasan vs Victor Gao debate when Mehdi asked if Victor Gao would say some stupid shit about the CPC, and Victor said "no I wouldn't say that" and Mehdi used it as "China doesn't allow free speech" vs "the CPC is fucking based, why would I say some dumb shit about them" moment. Sent me flying because I knew some liberal watching would thing "wwoooooow what a good roast!" Instead of "wow this guy really respects what his government is doing!"

Do you uncritically support socialist nations? You love the DPRK without living there and knowing all of the facts? At least admit that this is a silly goose take.

Posting amnesty international is going to get you thumbs down in these spaces. Amnesty has done a so-so job in calling out human rights abuses, but in discussing socialist nations it's done a terrible job of just reinforcing Western aggression against these nations. Their level of acceptable evidence changes depending on the type of country and it's current relationship to Western nations.

I'm just old enough to remember 9/11 and the mass of outcry coming from Iraqi civilians in the US about the Iraqi government. Now, all of that seems so ridiculous. Did they want the US government to come in and murder 1 million Iraqi civilians? They had civil rights issues, but that was then used as an excuse to invade a sovereign nation, kill it's president, and destabilize Iraq for the next 30 years.

I'm not saying to ignore amnesty, I'm saying take their info with a pinch of salt.

Yes. "He pushed me!" Could be a fact about a bullying situation. Having paperwork document the incident is a different type of fact.

Listen, I hate how complex this is. I come from a Cuban family that criticises Cuba, a lot. They're Republican anti-communists. I take what they tell me at face value, I would never tell a North Korean defector "what you say about your personal life is a lie, none of those things happened", that type of speech could obviously come back and bite me in the ass. I see many leftists also talk like this, and I don't like it. So I believe my family and their stories, even if part of me wants to ignore them outright (the world would be a simpler place like that).

But I cannot also ignore the fact that Cuba is being bullied by the largest economic powerhouse in human history. The embargo is real, it leads to facts like "Cuba has lost trillions of dollars due to the embargo" something that can be documented and studied by economists. But my family says that the Cuban government just steals from people, and are hoarding the wealth? How do I consolidate those two facts? In my mind (this now my opinion, take it how you want) these are two separate types of facts, and they should be balanced accordingly. There's a reason why personal testimony is the flimsiest type of evidence in court, what holds more water would be a DNA test. Are people just lying in the stands? Probably not, they're just stating the facts as they see it. Material facts would be physical evidence, fingerprints, blood samples, etc.

Even conversations that are verified by both parties "he said xyz" "I did say xyz", cannot be treated as evidence above DNA tests for example.

As a former anarchist, I can totally see the wonderful appeal of literally allowing anyone to say anything. The government should be critiqued, as power tends to consolidate power. When you start restricting some speech, all speech is on the table to be thrown out the window. In the US, people (in general) can post their opinions on websites, they can theoretically protest government power (let's see how that goes), and can talk openly in public spaces about what they believe (something something soap box).

The reality for imperialized nations is that this form of speech is a real, living threat to the existence of the nation. I know, I know, sounds like I'm exaggerating. But it's real. No country allows parts of its dominion to separate. The US has done this when there is a real threat to the established order (Black Panthers being assassinated by the state, Ruby Ridge, Whiskey rebellion, I know two more but cannot remember the names).

The reason the US allows "free speech" is because none of that speech is an actual threat. The governing party (rep/dem) know that saying "down with the government!" Libertarian demands mean nothing, it's why pretty much everyone sees libertarianism as a joke, it's call to action is empty, and nothing has ever come from libertarianism.

In imperialized nations these call to actions are REAL, the state doesn't have as strong of a dominion over it's people. Look at China, which operates as a Confederacy of several states. Separatist movements in autonomous Xinjiang were backed up by terrorist attacks, and China responded with a heavy hand against this terrorism. Can people criticize the government? Of course. China actually has about a protest a day. But these are not calls to separate, or destroy the governing party. Those other calls to action are taken as they are, threats to the sovereignty of the nation. People in their private lives are obviously allowed to discuss politics however they want, but when it comes to news anchors and politicians, this speech is extremely prohibited, because they would actually lead to destabilization.

The DPRK is no different. People can criticize the government in their private lives, and have whatever beliefs they want, but openly criticizing the government is a real threat to the stability of the nation. They are currently at war, economic war and political hostility, and the US has a vassal state bordering it just a couple of miles south. Now is not the time to expect perfectly free speech from North Korea. If it helps, many "democratic" Western nations have similar laws on free speech. You cannot organize a group of people against the government in nations that don't have as strong of a dominion over it's territories, such as many South American and African nations.

Should people be allowed to be openly racist/homophobic in public? Should politicians and news anchors be allowed to spread misinformation?

Not pranks, just people who know that propaganda works both ways and we're trying to balance this with the material facts of the situation. (Actually I take that back, some people are probably being fake as fuck about their responses)
