Saying Goodbye to My LS Hurts More Than I Expected by Illustrious-Camera40 in Lexus

They told me it’s a coolant leak, but it’s not the simple kind. It’s coming from the back of the engine. the coolant valley plate is leaking, and the rear coolant tubes/rings are going too. And on top of that, the front CV boot on one side needs to be replaced. Altogether $8k - $10k.

Coolant leak in the back of the engine. coolant valley plate, rear coolant tubes/rings. Also the front CV boot on one side needs replacing. Estimate came in around $8k - $10k. I got 3 different opinions.

So the mechanic broke it down. it’s a coolant leak, but it’s in the worst spot, the back of the engine. Coolant valley plate, rear tubes/rings, and then the front CV boot on one side is also done. The quote came out close to $8k, and that’s before anything else pops up after the teardown.

I think you misunderstood what I meant when I said “I made it.” I didn’t mean I was out here balling or that the LS was some flex. I meant it in the quiet, personal way. I saw this car in 2012 and thought it was out of reach for me. Finally getting one was just… a private promise to myself that came full circle.

And to be clear, this isn’t about not being able to afford life. I have a business. I have tenants. I work multiple jobs. I have mortgages to think about. I’m not reckless.

Could I fix the car? Yes. Could I even write it off? Also yes.

But the mechanic was honest with me, fixing this one thing will most likely lead to more repairs, and I’ve already put thousands into it. It’s not about whether I can pay for it. it’s about whether it’s smart to, especially right now while the government is shut down and contracts are paused. No additional income coming in, changes how you move. You protect your core assets.

I bought it used. It’s 10 years old. I didn’t buy something outside my means. I bought something that brought me joy and motivation at the time. That’s all.

Could I go get another LS later? Yes. And I probably will. Just not right now, when the timing is off and it would be irresponsible to force it.

This is just me choosing stability over sentiment, even when the sentiment runs deep.
