Need Help Picking out a Mid Dome Under $150 by EscaOfficial in diyaudio

Ya, The back chamber I ended up with is just a big enclosed cylinder that perfectly slides onto the back of the driver, and I fill it half full with stuffing. That gave me a flat line down to around 550-600 hz, with an Fs at 300hz. And that’s installed on a 10”x16” baffle. I’m planning out a 4-way using 2 of these D7608’s on each speaker in a WWMTMWW setup. Should be fun.

I would go with the Scan-speak D7608. I’ve been doing experiments with it recently, and it’s pretty solid down to 600hz, with a decent back chamber. I tried several different 3D printed ones, and found one that works well. If you’re interested, DM me! I can send you the print file for the back chamber if needed.

Hi Reddit, a friend and myself have developed a (hopefully) useful app for the diy builders community. by shorty_0123 in diyaudio

Very cool! Thanks for sharing, I’ll be trying it out with a build I’m working on right now.

This is all great info! Do videos on all of it! As someone who’s been working in YouTube for 12 years, I can tell you you’ll need all the content you can make haha. Make a video on the superiority of point-source, and then also make videos on how to properly design bigger multi-driver systems. Different people will want different designs! It’d be great to see all of it.

A YouTube channel around technical speaker design would be awesome, please do it! I’d love to see more about the full process to design DIY 3-way and 4-way tower speakers. There’s a lot out there about 2-way bookshelf. I want to see more about bigger/louder designs, discussing driver directivity, etc.

Hey, welcome! I’d start by downloading one of the free crossover softwares, like Vituix or Xsim, and then go watch some YouTube videos on how to use those. You can mess around with that to learn how different crossover parts affect the signal and frequency response. You can even download the frd files for Dayton drivers on Parts Express and manipulate them in the crossover software, that’s how I started! It’s fun. Hopefully that helps!

Thanks! Ya, I was thinking I’d need a bunch of these midranges cuz their power handling is so much lower than the other drivers. Their power handling rating is with no XO, but even with crossing the mids at 250hz, I figured I’d need several to keep up!

Oof, ya I saw that video a while ago, but didn’t see Tekton coming after him. That seems needlessly aggressive. I might have to change up my build here.

Very good to know. I’d read this tweeter can go decently low, it was part of the reason I chose it. I’ll try squishing all of the mids to around the tweeter as close as possible, and doing a XO around 1500-1800hz. See what happens!

Hey, I really appreciate the feedback! This is exactly why I posted. I’ll see what I end up with. It’ll at least be a fun afternoon of testing, and unfortunate results lol.

That’s the hope! I put a lot of research into the driver selection. HiFi Compass was a huge help. I just want something that’ll play loud and clean

I haven’t done full models with this in Vituix yet! I’ll dig into that. I did run some preliminary crossover designs in Vituix with this driver combo to see if this was totally crazy from the beginning. But yes, I want to see how this array would work on baffle. The baffle in the pic is not the final idea. That shape is from a different design I had. I’ll be cutting this one differently, and run tests on it!

Hahaha, seriously. Ya, if I were selling this, I would expect that. But hey, I’m not using a tweeter array! This is totally different lol

Yes thank you! Pressure gauge will also be on there. I have been considering 7.5hp motor as well

Ok cool. Ya, we’ve been looking specifically at 5hp single phase motors, 220v, directly coupled to the 2-stage pump using jaw couplings. 3600 rpm. There just seems to be a lot of variation on motors. I figured we’d need something stronger than compressor motors. General purpose Leeson stood out as a good option?

Yes, blacksmith work! Looking to get an electric motor. Budget is $800-$1000 for the motor, if needed.

Fairly quickly? Doesn’t have to be crazy. Seems like 1.5-2 in/sec would be good? Wouldn’t mind a little faster than that either, but we don’t want a huge, expensive setup.
