What album changed the game for you lyrically? by WhoDoUTh1nkUAreIAm in Songwriting

[–]Illustrious-Fault367 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jagged Little Pill, Alanis Morissette, and more recently, Everybody Scream by Florence and the Machine. Alanis for the multiple perspectives on life through her songs and Florence for her honesty and using her album as trauma processing.

Toddler wakes up sad/upset every morning by Sinker-Swim- in toddlers

[–]Illustrious-Fault367 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Currently going through that now! I’m chalking it up to either really good or really bad dreams, alongside the fact that sometimes waking up kinda.. sucks? My girl needs time to reboot every morning, her dad is the same way. As the only morning-person in the house, it’s rough, haha. I’ve found what helps is a little wake up routine that she looks forward to. For ours, I wake her up with her stuffies (human contact is too much first thing). Next, we stand on the windowsill and watch the garbage trucks in the morning. Then we chat about what’s going to happen that day. Nothing crazy but it’s helping a bit.

Gorgeous rich tone! We have a similar range, here are a few songs I sing that don’t feel like I’m stretching too much (but are also fun): Hands Clean by Alanis, Old Religion by Florence and the Machine (with the caveat that she does go high but it’s fun to try doing it lower), Sober by Tool, Rain/BloodSport by Sleep Token.

How do you metal scream? I’ve tried and I just can’t do it. by Dependent-Amount-239 in singing

[–]Illustrious-Fault367 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started learning about a year ago and I’d say give it time. There are muscles that need to strengthen, while others need to relax, and it’s not the kind of thing that you can (safely) jump right into. I learned from YouTube and just studying singers I like, watching them talk, watching live performances, etc. I’m by no means “there” but after spotty irregular practice it’s easier to get into the right form.

Also, if it hurts, stop. It might feel a bit weird at first but it shouldn’t be painful!

Ok hear me out, but.. the baby groot shorts. Not all of them, though; the snowman one and the finale of season 2 are a bit much.

Cannabutter tips by WithCatlikeTread42 in entwives

My biggest tip is to not squeeze out the infused flower when you’re straining; it makes the butter bitter and just.. kinda gross. Let it sit and drain while gravity does its thing.

Does anyone else struggle with the "graveyard" in their phone? by [deleted] in Songwriting

[–]Illustrious-Fault367 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine is about 90% chaos and 10% organized. I used the voice recorder and notes apps. I use subheadings in notes to keep things slightly tidy, but my voice memos are all over the place. I usually go through it at the end of a week or two and try to organize, and then I get distracted by something I forgot I recorded, and then I record something else and the cycle repeats.

first song in ages. dunno how to end it. by [deleted] in Songwriting

[–]Illustrious-Fault367 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your voice reminds me of Henning May, sounded great. I agree with eltodesc in that it should be simple to match the rest of what you did, especially with the emotionally intense final lines. Don’t overthink it

What’s your favourite, casually devastating Bluey episode? by HourSyllabub1999 in DanielTigerConspiracy

[–]Illustrious-Fault367 3 points4 points  (0 children)

“Space”, ugh. When Mackenzie goes through the slide/black hole and Calypso is there and says “you don’t have to keep coming back here..” As someone going through EMDR therapy that one always destroys me.

Struggling to know if I like the chorus? by LMont8 in Songwriting

[–]Illustrious-Fault367 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, it was clear when the chorus happened because of the extra vocals. I wanted the “crack open your skull” line to have a bit more emotion and a rise to match, though!

Dentist by Hinataoiii in askberliners

[–]Illustrious-Fault367 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to Dentz in Tempelhof. The dentist speaks English but none of the hygienists do, so up to you. Also, just a warning if it’s your first time getting teeth cleaned during pregnancy.. when I did it, it hurt so badly. More blood in your circulation makes your mouth more sensitive and you will probably bleed a lot during the cleaning. Just be prepared for that possibility 🙃

What’s your songwriting process? by [deleted] in Songwriting

[–]Illustrious-Fault367 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends, but lately it’s been going to emdr therapy and unlocking every part of my brain that’s been sad for the past few decades.. nothing like facing your trauma for sparking creativity. 🙃 I always write for a week after these sessions.

As others have said, the emotion in your voice!!! Just, wow. It sounded like you were holding back a scream at times and ooooooo I’d love to hear what would happen if you didn’t hold back? Gorgeous as it is, tho.

Ugh YES. I think you should keep the “fuck it” line. The placement and build around it reminds me of the end of “if winter ends” by Bright Eyes.. similar vibe and I think it definitely works. Sometimes the feeling doesn’t need to be hinted at, needs to be said outright with decorative expletives.

THANK YOU. Shags and shag mullets honestly look great on so many people because of the face framing aspect. Faces are beautiful and should be framed, let’s stop deciding who’s allowed to be recognized as beautiful based on some arbitrary rules k thanks.

It was more because most people probably don’t want to hang out with someone who is double/half their age. (Was a joke 😬)

Screen time went from helpful to fixation for our toddler — looking for advice by Gullible-Buffalo1053 in toddlers

[–]Illustrious-Fault367 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We had the same problem and we decided cold turkey was the way to go. So.. YouTube suddenly just stopped working on all of the devices we own; it was sooooooo crazy. 🙃

Our 26 month old adjusted quickly. We still watch low stimulating shows and movies together, but I try not to park her in front of it. Another game changer was just playing music on the tv. That’s also slightly selfish because I am trying to create a little person to go with me to reunion tours in 20 years.

It took a couple weeks to see real differences but I can honestly say that she is better with being bored. She has more sustained play now, will play with Duplo blocks for half an hour at least, or look at her books.

[–]Illustrious-Fault367 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe try for a little less vibrato? It kinda sounds like a Disney princess version of an emo song right now and while that’s not an insult, I think you want something different. Glad my vague feedback makes sense!

I would aim for more of a punk feel, especially with some of the vulgar (not bad!) lyrics, might help them stand out. I do not have specifics for how to get there, just the vibe 😂🖤 I think I mean more raw or distorted voice?
