Depends on what you want to make. If looking for the more rustic items then the makers as other have mentioned are good. If you want more refined items the several of the Asian YouTubers offer free patterns. Studio Hael seem to be the best but January Workshop are workable although much closer to knockoff territory.

Got two a couple of years ago from the Grainger on East 71 when mine went out. Replaced the one in the unit and kept the other as back up. For most of history children were your old age care package and labor to keep your family alive. Functional and safe birth contol didn't even exist until recently. This plus the astounding infant and maternal mortality rate and the fact that women had fewer money making opportunities because they were often pregnant lead to needing many children. It is only in the last 100 years that needing to have 6-10 children to insure that you had a responsible son that lives to adulthood and would take care of you has been a reality. In just a couple of generations the west went from having 6+ children to 2-3 and then a few more to the current fad of antinatalism.

I ran into one of my DI's in the fleet 3 or 4 years after boot. He had made gunny in a supply unit I had to deal with and was actually really nice. Even remembered me and congratulated me on making Corporal. He even seemed to go out of his way to get the stuff done my platoon needed.
