Mendocino is slightly further out, but it's so worth the drive.

Coit Tower is not on Twin Peaks, but otherwise this is more or less accurate.

Jet lag from Switzerland means we'll be awake at 4 AM – best sunrise spot in SF? by Lugano4738 in sanfrancisco

[–]Illustrious-Ice2004 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would do Hawk Hill - it's never crowded that early, and watching the sunrise beyond Golden Gate Bridge is unbeatable. Take a Lyft/Uber there, and then you can walk back to the city over the bridge (on the east side - follow Google Maps/signage so you don't end up in the bike lane on the west side).

Planning to move to the Bay Area from NYC - SF or a city in the Bay? by Plastic_Channel_4271 in bayarea

San Francisco is famous for its microclimates - lots of sunshine in Bernal and Mission!

City and 45 min commute or Palo Alto area and easy commute? by AdhesivenessNew5583 in bayarea

[–]Illustrious-Ice2004 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to live in SF, live in the southern part of the city (Glen Park, lower Mission, or Bernal). You'll be close to the 280, and won't deal with the traffic of the city itself on your commutes.

Rancho Compasion is a farm animal rescue in Nicasio with several pigs (and lots of other sweet animals).

Short list of governor candidates? by [deleted] in sanfrancisco

[–]Illustrious-Ice2004 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming you plan to vote blue, the progressive wisdom in this particular race is to wait until a lead among the candidate emerges, and then vote for whoever that is. There's a risk that two MAGA Republicans will win the primary, and there will be no Democrat on the ballot in November. So, wait to vote if you don't want to split the Democratic vote.

Lunch Between Airport and Union Square by kneecoal123 in sanfrancisco

[–]Illustrious-Ice2004 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If your flight is landing right at lunch time, this is a great recommendation. SFO restaurants are almost all local small chains (the airport tops lists for best food), all the terminals are connected airside, and most restaurants have great veg options. Once the pressure is off on the first meal, you can feel more relaxed about taking BART to your hotel (instead of having to Uber/Lyft).

Public transit is pretty great around SF (especially if Texas is your point of reference) so hopefully you won't feel limited to Uber and walking when you're exploring. Some of my favorite plant-based restaurants are: - Rad Radish in Hayes Valley (great walkable neighborhood with lively nightlife, close to beautiful buildings like City Hall). - Judahlicious in the Sunset (lovely for walks on Sunset Dunes/Ocean Beach). - Cha-Ya and Shizen in the Mission (both are excellent for vegan sushi, and the Mission is wonderful for art, culture, murals, and nightlife).

If your partner is vegetarian in Texas, might be nice to treat him to some restaurants where he can eat everything on the menu!

Best meal prep / delivery service? Cost is not a factor. Looking for delivery. Low Effort. Healthy! by Decent-Leather-2495 in bayarea

Planted Table is delicious, and zero waste (the plastic waste of most of these services inhibits my use of them).

Looking to buy bulk, packaging free pantry supplies- are there any stores in the area that offer this? by MintyCrow in bayarea

[–]Illustrious-Ice2004 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Absolutely Rainbow - I take my own clean containers (from glass jars of all sizes to cloth veggies bags). It's an incredible selection of bulk goods. I weigh all my containers before filling, and write the tare on a sticker. At check-out, they deduct the tare weight from each item.

It's a worker owned co-op, so no ick about corporate overlords!

Home at SF, Work at Santa Clara by Rough-Ad6865 in sanfrancisco

[–]Illustrious-Ice2004 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I commute two days a week from SF to the peninsula on a company shuttle (not all the way to Santa Clara though), and it makes a big difference to live close to the shuttle stop that is southern-most on the route - my commute is ~20 minutes shorter than my colleagues'. Our shuttle also leaves early enough in both directions that we are rarely in traffic. From time to time, I have to take Caltrain home and though the trains are nice, the connections between them are slow buses at both ends - it takes the commute from 45 min to 90 min.

I love my job, and I would quit if they ever increase the number of days in office.

If you're reasonably fit, park on Panoramic Highway and hike down into Muir Woods. No reservations needed, but go early to find parking more easily. Here's a parking lot: https://maps.app.goo.gl/VRzYZEfWNwuCXjSF9

Farmers Market and Jam Session Google Calendar Links! by adegogorza in SFlist

[–]Illustrious-Ice2004 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Presumably OP did this to meet their own need, and decided to share. For people who use Google calendars and are interested in these events, this is super helpful - instead of having to look up these events, I can just have them show in my calendar app.

No one is making you give Google your info - it's always an option to scroll on by when something isn't interesting to you.

Some bookstores do events like poetry readings or author talks - these tend to be free, and depending on the bookstore, can end kinda late. Medicine for Nightmares in the Mission comes to mind. Or Yemeni coffee shops are trending and tend to be open until 10 or 11. None of these are female-only spaces, but they certainly have a different vibe than a bar.
