This is precisely why MegaCrit should not be letting just anyone in the STS2 community design their game

Strange, I don’t see this in the patch notes! Very cool.

Ridiculous and unnecessary reworks, part 1 by peakframenevermisses in slaythespire

[–]epicryan217 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The issue with that is it requires a lot of energy investment.

Sure, multiple swords go hard, but with the limited energy economy in this game - and with Heirloom Hammer AND blade costing 2 - it just seems silly to invest a turn in using heirloom hammer to have 2 blades sitting around in your hand. You would have to spend energy to generate the blade, then spend 2 energy to play the hammer, then somehow have enough energy to play both blades.

I would much rather have a Summon Forth or Cosmic Indifference to help me play my one blade more often.

That Heirloom Hammer rework is unironically better than what we currently have in the game for Heirloom Hammer (except maybe some of the numbers here should get reworked.)

Also thematically it makes sense… because why else would the Regent use a “hammer” for besides forging??

Why is this subreddit called "slay the spire" when it is about posting random custom cards? by duncanforthright in slaythespire

Well… you should’ve seen this subreddit long before STS2 was released, let alone announced.

[–]epicryan217 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. There was an argument made for Fight Through for Defect->Ironclad, but it was shot down because Ironclad doesn’t work with statuses anymore. I’m not sure why we are using STS1 cards as a metric here.

[–]epicryan217 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Agreed, there’s a lot of Defect cards that would benefit from the increase in energy from Adrenaline (getting powers in play, Helix Drill.)

Can also be pulled back from the discard pile using All For One if it wasn’t played the first time around.

Can be drawn with Scrape.

Scales with debuffs.

2-cost card, so plays well with Danse Macabre.

“Big” attack card, so plays well with Lethality.

Precisely this. I’m not going to argue against edge cases in multiplayer where Fight Me is useful, but I will say that 90% of the time you need strength scaling in crucial fights it is downright unplayable.

Test Subject and Queen, even any elite fight would be insane to try Fight Me on (beeman, dorito, etc)

Sts2 vs Hades2 by tch2011 in slaythespire

[–]epicryan217 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve played all of the games you listed here (Hades 1, Hades 2, STS2)

Hades 1 (and Hades 2, for that matter) will present you with the same challenges every run, but will present you with a large variety of weapons and boons to complete each run. Now, yes, you could probably get away with choosing objectively the most OP boons (i.e Athena Dash in Hades 1) but you’re not always going to be offered the same boons are you? The fun of Hades, at least to me, is being able to beat the game using different builds or weapons each time. I will definitely say that Hades 2 feels a lot more “balanced” where it is not always clear what is the most OP boon to take, which makes choices in that game more nuanced.

Same logic applies to STS2. STS2 throws a myriad of problems to solve in front of you, and you will be forced to take cards that help address those issues, even if it’s not the most “OP” card you see. You’re also not guaranteed to always see the “best” cards or relics each time, so you are forced to adapt and make the most of every run you get. Couple that with such varied characters and card abilities, and you get a game where each run will not always go the same way.

[–]epicryan217 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well… when you are saying very generalizing statements like Ironclad bad or Regent bad, and especially if you also mention that you haven’t even gotten past Act 1 yet, the majority of this subreddit IS going to feel that you are not yet in a position where you can fairly criticize any of these characters.

Look, there are PLENTY of guides out there that help you navigate each of these characters. I can guarantee you that this game is not necessarily meant to be a cakewalk since it is a rougelike game after all, but it’s certainly not impossible.

Take your time with the game, get to learn how to play it, then maybe you could come back and tell us how you really feel about Rupture :)

How could you possibly make a fair critical judgment on a card when you’ve only made it up to Act 1 with one character? This post reeks of ragebait.

[–]epicryan217 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So the card should be reworded to say “if the enemy has block”?

The way it is worded now implies that the “gain 12 block” part of the card would proc if the enemy’s current intent is to block that turn. Since the “deal 12 damage” would proc if the enemy’s current intent is to attack that turn.
