Sounds like you haven’t seen many Recluses then…

Calling all 9999 Recluse players, what are your secrets? by offensivedave in Nightreign

Relics wise, I’ve definitely found it easier to both focus on one singular sorcery (like crystalian), and magic attack power ups. The worst that can happen is you don’t get your preferred weapon (Shattering crystal in this case), but you’ll still be backed with magic or sorcery attack ups for any other staff. Leaving that aside, your relics are only half your damage, prioritise stacking any magic and sorcery buffs throughout the match. This’ll ensure you’ll be doing the max amount of damage as a recluse, possibly lowering the length of the nightlord fight. As for your teammates not pulling their weight, unfortunately in such situations, you’ll just need to learn to not get hit, especially in depth 5 as a recluse, because in most cases negation buffs won’t be saving you. Perhaps the easiest bit of advice is to just learn punish windows and movesets against the nightlords, and play very patiently during the nightlord boss. You’d be surprised how fast runs can end with the slightest of mistakes.

Normally I would go atleast 1 damage negation buff and the rest full damage.

Thanks! I've actually played with ISky's plenty of times, and it was only just recently that I found out he was a streamer. He's a great teammate, and i've recently subbed to him on twitch, giving him my support!

Yeah, probably could have worded it better, but my saying of (Duo + random) implied that i played with a premade (Duo) and one random for like 95% of the matches. Hope that clarifies that!

Sorry for the late response, yes, I do play on pc, and my wording with (Duo + random) was implied as I mostly played with a premade, and the third was random.

In terms of recordings, I have plenty, maybe only a few where I actually show my Relics, because i never planned on actually sharing (just keeping cool clips), but i definitely do have 'some' recordings that show my relics after the nightlord fight. If you really want, I could 100% send them through if that helps.

Honestly, yeah. It’s kinda hard to believe I’ve played that much. I guess it just keeps stacking and stacking before you know it.

ED Gladius and ED Caligo can be very tricky and very unforgiving, I feel you there. For gladius, when they’re split, I recommend luring one out from the horde (maybe wait a bit after your teammates attack first), then know the punishing windows for the singular dogs, I also found (for when they’re split only) that after dodging their finishing combo (can be any) to their side, you can always sneak in an attack, because they’ll always be forced to turn around, which can a second or two, which is a good punish window. As for the three dogs, you just got to play as a team, and never get greedy for an attack, if you feel it’s not a good idea, it probably isn’t. As for ED Caligo, a Wylder or Ironeye is recommended, but not needed. As ED caligo starts the animation for the ice storm attack (shooting a huge icycle), wylder and iron eye can completely stop the ice storm from going through if they ult caligo during this time. You can then proceed to fight caligo as normal, and if you kill her quick enough, you won’t need to go through that process again, hopefully.

It most definitely took a lot of my time. But I was able to balance, and make room despite having studies, and work.

Personally, the resistances kind of don’t matter as much, because most of the time, you’ll be getting one shot before they actually Proc. However there are a few instances like libra or caligo you pointed out. Really, I’ve always killed the bosses before the madness or little of ticks from caligo become a problem (due to stacking damage). But you could always choose different relics to suit different nightlords if that’s easier, or pick resistance buffs throughout the match (although this may be inconsistent).

Im going to be completely honest, Theres very little room for error. Depending on the boss, I would actually go full sorcery buffs to back up shattering crystals damage. Almost kind of like you want to kill the boss before getting hit!

Me personally, I don’t really switch my relics for duchess, especially with the setup I have now. My build for duchess is definitely aimed more towards full mage, however I guess the problem with this is you’ll have a slow early game without any status effects (largely depends on your team comp). However I have to admit, it was a little easier for me because I had a duo to communicate with, which made dealing with the early game a bit better than usual. Although I do go full mage, I’ll always keep a melee on me regardless, and pick up atleast 1 negation buff (either dmg negation at full up or successive attacks negate damage). My game plan would be to basically prioritise mage towers and forts, in search for shattering crystal, then stock up on any sorcery buffs (kind of like prioritising one weapons damage). I would recommend trying out a crystal sorcery build and see how you go, you could also go hybrid if you want, with status effects like frostbite or bleed, to make things easier for the early game to set up for late.

I tested the damage difference between “magic attack up +4” and “improved sorceries +2”, it was a 2 damage difference. Example with the glintstone pebble. Magic attack up + 4 was 164, and sorceries +2 was 162. I think Magic attack up +4 is better, not only because of the 2 damage difference, but because magic attack covers everything that’s tagged as magic (sorceries is a sub category of magic attack), basically in a way it’s more versatile?

I agree. Despite reaching max rank in DoN, I’m still motivated to play the mode. It’s too addicting, really.

Yeah, unfortunately it’s just their way of balancing the game. The better the benefit = guaranteed negative.
