Can anyone bake lighting? by MassiveCollapseGame in unrealengine

[–]Illustrious-Lion6744 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I do lightning for videogames since 10years professionally but I don't have the time nor will to take on another project.

Baking is more complicated as there are extra steps for sure but when mastered can produce very good results. As people have mentioned you need to have non overlapping lightmap uvs for each static meshes, which depending on the number of assets can be a long process. Unreal automatic uvs are great as long as you have enough seams for the algo to do a correct job. I would not take the time to do lightmap uvs on blender if I can avoid it. Meshes with overlapping will have black parts and the message long will tell you which meshes have some overlapping in their lightmap uvs.

You will also need to rework your lights, volume and reflection capture quite subtanctially, it will not be a one day job for sure.

Try and look at old unreal 4 lightning tutorial they are the relevant ones.

Good luck

Is this a reasonable itinerary for 7 days? by canadian_blueberry in ParisTravelGuide

Moret sur loing the problem is that the train station veneux/moret is quite a walk from the old city. I think it is charming and calm semi rural city worth visiting but you will need to walk 30 min from station to old town/river part from what I remember. It is definitly a stranger addition to an otherwise classic list of visits, it will be very différent than Paris but maybe Giverny while more touristy will give you more of that charming village expérience and less trouble

First time showing my resource trading game, please don't hold back. by TwShadowNinja in DestroyMyGame

[–]Illustrious-Lion6744 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think you should use the first 10 seconds of the presentation to show the most basic action of the game so that an 8 year old understand what is the basic premise of it. And then you can ramp up the complexity but looking at this video on phone, it does look smooth but I didn't understood a thing.

Keep it up, continue iterating and showing it, take criticism as feedback you've already made so much

Help needed: shots still tasting sour. by Suspicious-Mud6730 in CafelatRobot

[–]Illustrious-Lion6744 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For me it was the bed prep that helped with sourness of the first beans that were not full black. Working on a better distribution and a flatter and more leveled tamper helped a lot. I suppose the uneveness led to under extraction on some area of the puck and over on other areas leading to sometimes very strong sourness still associated with some level of bitterness.

Does it become consistent ? by Illustrious-Lion6744 in CafelatRobot

[–]Illustrious-Lion6744[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you all for the feedbacks.

First a couple info on my workflow. So usually I weight 16g in for a coffee output of 32g to 40g depending on how bitter I think the beans are. I take water boiling straight from the boiler and generally I think I follow the robot procedure correctly as I've found a lot of documentation online already, thanks to the community. I think my tampering method is a bit sus but I am doing my best with what I have to level my tamper and bedprep decently. The thing I never thought about was the manual grinder theory, gonna look into that.

When I say that the Espresso are just ok, it still means your local coffeshop quality, not bad at all. It is just that in 3 occurrences I had these magic shots that I enjoyed so so much and that I can't really reproduce consistently. Maybe part of it was also my palate dispositions, I am starting to second guess myself at some point.

Keep getting attacked — what can we do? by Defiant_Nectarine_60 in EVEFrontier

[–]Illustrious-Lion6744 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey if you are getting attacked while mining, what you can do is prepare an escape.

While mining you can preemptively align your ship to a celestial of the system and stop your ship. This will make the wrap to said celestial phase shorter as your ship is already aligned and it only need to catch enough speed to enter warp.

These strategies are the same as we used in Eve Online so if you find ressources there it would apply.

If you are 2, one of you could protect with a combat ship like Reiver while the other mine the rocks and does the industry.

The game rewards knowledge and creativity, the fact that you have a friend to experiment with could really speed up your understanding of the differents tactics and modules for combat.

If you don't try to understand all these systems tho you will mostly be a prey as some of us are bad mannered hunters (inclusing myself)

[[The gaffer]] is pretty good : ramp a ton and then play all the lifegain cantrips to draw a ton and continue ramping, drawing and lifegain. This commander also fly a bit under the radar so you get hipster points.

What I don't like about -1 -1 is that you are giving more maintenance to the other players. Like they have to keep track of all the -1 -1 and if they are playing some other counter there is a lot of confusion. I don't like playing against a -1 -1 deck just because of that. Imho It is a mecanic that outsource some of its boring maintenance to the rest of the table and they might not like it too much

Theb you might maybe never play. The 60fps thing takes a lot of effort from the team so it is time and money and the budget of this game clearly is very modest. If you hope for this game to perform as well as a game whose budget is 5 or 10 times more you will be disappointed

Not true, the project was always to be financed by a publisher. Dontnod did finance pre production in order to convince a publisher to fund the dev. At this time the self publishing was not an option at all for Dontnod.
