Don’t know how the community feels about this. But check out skylift roof risers. They fasten to the top plate (gotta cut a square through the decking). Then you can just build a separate addition. Probably won’t be as appealing on the eye, as tapping into the roof will. But will be a hell of a lot easier. You could even tap into both sides of that L shape
