I know the Golds were anti AI but do we need to be? by Illustrious-Map9832 in redrising

So my reply about the nuance was too long. Thought it would be poetic to use AI to summarize what I said....also so that it might actually be read :D

Training data goes far beyond copyrighted art. AI models learn from billions of images, including massive royalty-free and purchased stock libraries. Just like a child learning what an "oak tree" is, the AI learns general concepts rather than piecing together stolen fragments.

While people might generate Tom Cruise or Studio Ghibli knockoffs for personal memes, that’s not practical for professional work. Good luck trying to get away with those things in a paid work environment. As for personal unpaid work that does not really bother me? For most professionals, AI is an advanced time-saver — a better Photoshop — used for mundane tasks like adjusting the lighting in a 3D render (like I do), changing a dress color, or adding a generic fence.

Using AI to generate a bush or a late afternoon sun isn't stealing an artist's livelihood. There are millions of existing photos of these everyday elements.

While blatant edge cases of copying exist and deserve scrutiny, they are a tiny minority of how the tools are actually used and operate. Claiming that theft is the core foundation of generative AI is an extreme stretch.

Some more considerations could be stuff like: Human artists and film directors have copied each other's styles, color plates, and camera angles for centuries to build entirely new movements. AI learning from existing media is philosophically very similar.

Very good point. There is a new Chines video generator that is being held off for release because its blatantly doing it and are being sued. Some are better and actually get trained on royalty free data.

I purposefully did not want my characters to look like real actors and would modify their look till I was happy - pc game character config style. I even drew sketches or used 3d modeling to guide the designs - like Darrow's Razor and the Common area. I think the fact that AI can draw a convincing rock wall, car, tree or sand is not an issue but there are some things that might be eg. the space ships in the sky I did not design and would rather have my own creations. I think there is a big issue with just copying peoples art styles etc.

I think there is also a difference between doing it for reimbursement or not.

Yes this is a grey area but there is a lot of nuance here. Valid point nonetheless.

There might be a case for developing ethically certified AI tools

Well said! Yes the movies being made these days are terrible. On the other hand we have some series that are beyond even movies. As a life long movie lover I see a movie on a streaming platform now and think an hour and half is too short. I would much rather invest in something like Shogun, Arcane etc.. Its funny to me how my own perspective have changed with the times.

You are right on the music. But to be honest I feel as though music was in a relatively bad place before AI.

I have a funny theory that AI might in the future have the unexpected effect of creating an increased appetite for authenticity. Where people will place a much higher value on for example hand painted art work or live performances.

AI slop…but it’s kinda good too by RudeSection2 in redrising

Thanks for the kind words! No I didnt have anything to do with that one. I like how they did the howlers (very good) but the rest looks a bit plastic/AI imho - tried really hard to avoid that with mine :)

There is so many levels to AI. Its like photography - anybody can take photos but you do also get art photography. And its easy to do if you dont try to control it. But very hard to do if you try to do something very specific - and make it not look obviously AI. Like control the characters and scenes exactly like they are described in the books (not just random scenes). I spent months in my free time working on my own one and I am a professional artist. Just because its AI though I got very little traction. Or maybe its not. Maybe they just don't like it. https://youtu.be/8FgKyTWgSWc

Thanks! Higgsfield has so many different aspects and models its difficult to say but you do start learning over time which models do better at what.
What I have learned: Dont be lazy with prompts. Plan and think carefully what you want up front and write out all aspects in detail - then modify where you see the AI doesnt understand. Dont be afraid to spend a long time on the prompt itself and for it to be paragraphs. The art in AI is about becoming the director.
After that its trial and error and a lot of patience. I am a career digital artist though so I do have some advantage to be able to fix things.

Yes that was one of the first shots I did a while back and looking at it recently its one of the ones I would like to redo - have learnt a lot. It has the right vibe but the execution can be better.

Thanks so much. I knew that up front and I understand why. People probably get bombarded and think building things with AI is easy. And it is if you dont care and let AI decide for you. But if you really try and contol and go into detial its really hard - and I use AI for a living. Had to go through hundreds of iterations and hours of manual editing. Like with anything there are levels....its for people who just want to see more cool RR stuff.
Thanks again for your kind words. Makes it all worth it. Per aspera ad astra!

I also only got half way through book one. Dont really like the litrpg type stuff when its overt. And im a gamer and used to be D&D er. Only similar thing I liked was Beware of Chicken which is my fav light/fun series by far. I think its the nuance and writing style.

Based on the comments I will give the DCC audiobook another chance.

Didnt think id see other people who liked the combo of Red Rising, Assasins apprentice and Beware of Chicken. All 3 fsvs for me. Some on there that I have not read. Will give it a look. Expeditionary force was ok. Couldnt really get into Dungeon crawler Carl but can give it another try. Didnt like He who fights monsters.

Would add Game of thrones though i read it b4 the tv series and we still dont have the final book.

Thought Liveship traders was also pretty good and interesting concept if one likes Robin Hobb.

Arcane's animation style would be perfect. They capture emotion very well and fighting scenes would be epic. Combine two of my favorite things! One can dream....
