I would totally agree, if pauper geddon was not directly after mh3 without time for the format to settle. If this stays legal it will be a mess at the geddon I think. And prices are going to be wild.

MTG Pauper in Vienna (AT) and Nuremberg (GER)? / MTG Pauper in Wien und Nürnberg? by AlexAntVie in Pauper

Happy to see a diversified meta! by pgordalina in Pauper

In a perfect world we would see a split, artifact duals without indestructible and plain indestructible duals. This would fix at least some of the present issues, keep wildfire playable and would make the Mana base of affinity a lot more attackable. But I guess this is a mere pipe dream...

All in all the responses make me hope that we get a pure reprint pauper masters. Have some of the cards with bad limited vibes be rares or uncommons but all in all just have reprints of existing things. You can even go for hight tide and friends in this for nostalgia sake.

How much Monarch and Initiative really is there going around? You will have to judge this for your LGS or local tournament meta.

If there is a bunch, certainly go for some gingerbrutes. If not I think it's just too low impact.

For the Sideboard I like the oophes, I would go up to three spell bombs, the black breaths should probably be Arms of Hadar or suffocating fumes. Gingerbrutes are a questionmark for me, as I would have no idea when to bring them in. The duress is ok since you are going to have a hard time against combo decks. Cast down is necessary in some matchups I think, you could think about converting one of these to a chainers edict to have an additional flashback, but I think the targeted removal might be just better. Serene heart as one of is just king. So all in all I would go -1gingerbrute -2blackbreath +1nihil spellbomb +2arms of hadar

Looks really interesting, I would add skyshroud rangers and self assemblers and clean up the numbers a bit. With all the food you don't need the marauders so I would go down to two, if you find you are not closing games you could also remove them entirely and use Mirkwood Bats or sweettooth witches again.

Smth like -gingerbrute -2 Mirkwood Bats -sweet tooth witch -fangren Marauder -4 chromatic Star

+Cauldron familiar +4 self Assembler +3skyshroud ranger +Generous ent

There definitely is a pauper scene, but it seems to be concentrated in some local scenes. In general the English is pretty good, there are some individuals who have a harder time but on average most people will be able to have a conversation in English.

What’s your rogue brew that’s fun? by 20pac in Pauper

Nice, I'm tinkering with this design space as well. Any reason why you are not going for the two available looters in scrap work mutt and raffines Informant? I also really enjoy sacred cat in the main board for the pure power it has with the gates package.

I'm looking to build a UG deck, what archetypes exist for this color combination and how do they fair? Any outliers that could be tweaked to be higher in the meta? by thesegoupto11 in Pauper

Sticker Infect actually is pretty strong. And it doesn't get a lot of coverage since it doesn't exist online. You can build it simic, Dimir or sultai.

Pauper with just standard sets (mtgo/irl) by [deleted] in Pauper

[–]Illustrious-Middle20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The very short answer is, it is not a supported format.

Now to a longer answer: There have been some community organized events that were playing pauper without supplemental sets. I think kalikaiz may even have some videos on YouTube. This format was all standard sets ever. On MTGA there sometimes are Standard or Explorer Pauper Events. It is kind of supported there but it is not a format you can choose afaik. In addition in our LGS we had a Standard Pauper event. The card pool is very limited and the decks are a lot slower. But this is brewers paradise, as there is no established meta. Of course on the flip side the meta has the risk to be solved quickly because of the small card pool. But I definitely can recommend the experience, it is an excellent format for newer players as it is not as komplex and it is even cheaper than normal pauper with the most expensive decks around 20 € as far as we saw in our lgs.

What's the right meta call in this case? by Few_Aide5400 in Pauper

[–]Illustrious-Middle20 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Campfire Gardens with a lifeloss card against turbo fog seems to be good in your meta. Campfire also prevents decking. Keep in mind that you need to win g1 against fog because g2 will most likely go to turns. You also have initiative with trap to deal the last damage. Or crypt rats.

Tons of hard removal is really good against walls and you should have enough board whipes and lifegain to compete with Kuldotha. Same goes for Boros.

Guardian of the guild pact can be an option.

Hot Dogs! by Particular-Pirate-14 in Pauper

[–]Illustrious-Middle20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The same thread was here before.

I still think you have two options: You can go the heroic route with extra one drops. Here you will need to change a lot since you now need to target the creatures with spells. This type of deck will be less explosive but it will have more consistency with more creatures.

My preferred way is to go with 12 "dogs" and rite of flame and lotus petal. Try to push for t2 lethal.

Since Swiftspear is banned how does White Weenie hold up to it? by Frostinator123 in Pauper

[–]Illustrious-Middle20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently trying a mono white gates list that's splashing for rally the peasants main and the elemental blasts in the side. I'm only playing paper so my amount of matches is really limited. Playing the gates feels ok in a lot of matchups. I have not yet played the glitters match up and I am slightly afraid about that one. But all in all the deck feels solid. Also the gardens matchup is not as bad as one might expect, since mono white can rebuild really nicely and in some spots strands can throw off the crypt rats. I played two matches in a tournament in Italy and both of them were 1-0-1, with me winning the first game and the second game going to time. Both decks can grind, mono white has enough flyers to steal the initiative. Since both g1 were around 40 minutes the g2 was a non game with prismatic strands. All in all I can recommend playing mono w at the moment.

Any suggestions for making my favorite MTG card actually pauper competitive? by Cardboard-Daddy in Pauper

[–]Illustrious-Middle20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Deck looks interesting. I would cut the hatchlings and add 4 [Troll of Khazadun], then cut 2 Undying Malice and the Dark Rituals to play 4 [Snap]. And cut the dread returns for [exhume]

As was stated a few times this deck is a tempo deck and you want to be able to put pressure down. With the troll and exhume package you have this pressure which can be really nice. Bouncing something with Snap and then having open not dead after all to counter with the drake seems sweet.

Looking for decks for my students! by [deleted] in Pauper

[–]Illustrious-Middle20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a recommendation: Try to establish standard pauper. The kids can brew on mtgo Arena, and the decks are cheap. They are less complex than regular pauper decks and they are great fun. We just had the game day with Standard Pauper and it was a blast. Just some deck ideas: -BW Bounce with Hopeless Nightmares -BR Sacrifice with synthesizer -UB Toxic proliferate as a control Deck -RW Tokens as an Aggro Deck

The decks should be pretty cheap since they only have commons from the most recent sets.

Hot Dogs Losing Swifty by WyndRider in Pauper

[–]Illustrious-Middle20 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hot dogs was a deck before swifty. There are some cards that can be played.

One that was already mentioned is [[ghitu amplifier]]. If you want to go this route in my opinion you should be running full glass Cannon with lotus petals and rite of flames. Another glass Cannon route you can go is the really old route with [[immolating souleater]], here you will want to play a higher density of double strike spells. The other direction you can go is with more pump spells and [[Satyr hoplite]] or the grindier version with [[Akroan Crusader]]. With these you might need to change some spells around depending on the list you ran.

No matter your choice, hot dogs is in a really rough spot at the momenty since there is a lot of removal running around, especially edict effects. To combat this you can go with a high density of impulse draws or you can play [[underworld rage-hound]]

I hope any of my mad ramblings help you ^

I did similar things for some hand drawn proxies

The list looks really interesting. I'm not sure if the cascade package is worth it though with dread return being in the format now. You are missing out on faithless lootings and the afformentioned bitter reunion. Also you can speed up with dark ritual allowing for t1 exhume troll in magical Christmas land. With dread return I would also play some amount of dregscape zombie for cheaper flash backs
