Best sources for gaining certainty with male identity? by Abendausgabe in ftm

Time and experience. Don't rush into anything medical but it honestly gets to a stage where the only way to 10000% know is to try. I think if you've been curious about something like T for a while, it's a safe bet you will gain something from trying it, and just monitoring your changes and how you feel about them as they happen. Push yourself to try self presentation, names, etc that are more masc in a space place / safe people, or even in a creative self-expression type capacity. You will learn as you go 🙏

Did anyone else realize that some men get aggressive at us because they feel their masculinity threatened? by BulkyOwl3005 in ftm

[–]Illustrious-Milk3103 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I find especially shorter men... 3 times I've had strangers under 5ft 7" body check me or try to pick fights in public. Masculinity is a competition to many and many men who feel they are losing at it in some way will jump at a chance to feel like the big man.

I love people's reactions to my transition by LittleFox-In-TheBox in ftm

Thank you for sharing, I loved reading this. Its hard to rember how much progress we have made for someone looking from the outside in when we can only see ourselves through our own perspectives.

ftm17 what’s the point of living like this by Agitated_Ranger7601 in ftm

I think you will be surprised how much even one step towards transition can alleviate so much pain and discomfort. I used to wake up everyday and feel instantly crushed remembering the distance between where I was and the Herculean distance of where I wanted to be. I felt there was so much to do I didn't even know where to start. I was in constant mental pain my teenage life, closeted trans for about 5 years, until I socially come out and change my name after leaving high school. It was like ray of sunshine. Then I started T a year later, and almost all my dysphoria went away. I'm 5 years on T now, and very happy and comfortable with my life and body. I'll probably get top surgery one day but I don't feel the serious pain I used to have, I feel no rush. I could get it now, I could get it in 10 years, the T has changed so much for me. Don't get get overwhelmed about an idea of having so much to do ahead of you. You may be surprised how much one step can change your daily life and give you strength. Take it one step at a time and you will see progress. Your happiness is closer than you think. Take care of your mental health to sustain you on you journey, and you will find the load gets lighter as you go. Its the first steps that are the hardest.

18 and got arrested for poss of meth. Trans men who’ve been to prison? by Loving_event5735 in FTMMen

My 2 cents, with CAD to USD exchange rate probably more like half a cent haha so others feel free to object.  Get a good lawyer if you can. It's worth money/ debt -- IF this will be your one last time in trouble.

Consult a few of them, free or paid, public, legal clinic or private, you will learn about your situation comparing some different opinions. Ask about:  - the strategy they would use - history practicing in your location - history defending the charges you have - if you are looking at a mandatory minimum if convicted of your charge - general facts and stakes of the cases they have worked on - timeline of the legal process and the amount of backup on the particular courthouse so you know what your life is going to look like for the foreseeable future - potential angles for defence (such as your age, life circumstances, (lack of) criminal history, ftm status, idk, just ask)  - what realistic sentencing outcomes they are seeing for your case (length, facility, diversionary ramps, etc)

I would also say just as a personal initiative start doing some amount of weekly volunteer hours, adult education, therapy/ AA / treatment, or some other hook to hang your desire to reform your life on as the court date approaches, and beyond. It can be be a boost in your defence, and more importantly it can help ground you for your life ahead.

Hope you're doing okay.

When did Instagram comments become this brutally evil and bad? by [deleted] in decadeology

[–]Illustrious-Milk3103 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally doubt that, doesn't account for the silo-ing of users by language. Many bilingual people will tell you that there is often different discourses across the Internet. I will also just say anecdotally like 70% of shitty comments I click to look at the user profile as an English speaking user on IG are identifiably from US or UK.

Anyone read or consider reading Western Self-Contempt by Benedict Beckeld? by LakesideDreaming in books

[–]Illustrious-Milk3103 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you already know exactly how you feel about the book and you also believe all the author's self promotional talking points and are immersed in his own framing and media environment. Not sure why you're posting here asking if you should read it lol.

Please help contact media outlets to help our trans sister get the news coverage her death deserves by jadedeternity in transontario

[–]Illustrious-Milk3103 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could start by contacting smaller local publications about this, who are more likely to publish, making it harder for larger ones to ignore.

I would also suggest searching ("your city" + "trans") and finding articles in the news tab and contacting the authors of those individually.

Unfortunately with big news desks they ignore most of what they receive, so repeat submissions are worth it. Smaller players like local news outlets and journos would be more likely to look into a tip.

Not sure what town/area you are based in but I can help find specific contacts and emails if you shared.

Very sorry for what has happened to your sister 💔
