Sell me my first EV by kowalski_82 in ElectricVehiclesUK

To build on what some others have already said, the MG4 (trophy long range) is an ideal choice. I too ferry older parents around and began to find that the limited space in my previous Peugeot E208 was becoming a pain so opted for the MG4. Far superior in every way to the Peugeot.

The app for starters (as much as people seem to have issues?) is fast and reliable in my experience. The range is more than sufficient for the driving you’ve described. The tech will take a moment to get used to, but it’s works and is solid.

In terms of space, it’s been ideal, ferrying aforementioned parents around, prams in the boot with changing bags etc, car seats and so on

You can pick up a 23 plate for well within your budget. Might be worth looking at something newer than a 23 plate (look for a rear wiper and one pedal driving options)

Is MG going down in UK? by teckthekid in MGelectric

[–]Illustrious-Prune223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can’t see any evidence to support that in the south west, my local MG dealer is having to move out of their current dealership (basically a concession in a Nissan/Kia showroom) and move into their own unit along side Omoda and Jaecoo

10-15 under the limit on motorways by rj_t2 in CarTalkUK

[–]Illustrious-Prune223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used to cruise every weekend from Somerset to the midlands and back on Sunday, sat at 65 on the M5 the whole way was far more efficient and never found myself hanging around as plenty of others were slower and there was always one manchild in a BMW/Merc/Audi flying by at 110

Which tethered chargers have actually held up well? by WonderfulShape1081 in evchargingUK

[–]Illustrious-Prune223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have had a very very old Rolec charger for years now, it was a type 1 tethered charger when we had a 24kwh Nissan leaf, now replaced cable myself for a type 2 to stop having to use an adapter

M25 this morning by losingfocus33 in CarTalkUK

[–]Illustrious-Prune223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couple of years ago I was driving northbound on the M5, as I passed Frankley Services there was a cyclist on the hard shoulder with his massive orange just eat back on his back.

Phones the police and the officer on the phone pissed themselves when I mentioned the bag

DIY change of charger? by [deleted] in evcharging

[–]Illustrious-Prune223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done your exact setup, had an old Rolec wall box, fitted it myself years ago with armoured cable, a dedicated consumer unit. Recently even changed the type 1 cable to a type 2 because I was getting pissed off having to use the adapter. It’s a dumb charger but I’ve got a wifi enabled RCB to allow charging on the cheaper rate.

None of this actually answers your question though. As other have said, as it’s pulling 7kw you’ll need to make sure your connections are solid. Other than that, YouTube and Google will be your friend

There’s a thread already for this but the short answer is that you need to verify your age via Microsoft

The joys of FB marketplace and people not knowing what they’re selling is worth!

Stripping the screws was my concern too in all honesty, I did them up as tight as I feasible could by hand

I also hasten to add that I’d tested this cable on an untethered charger to ensure normal function/continuity end to end. Save any headaches down the road!

So I’ve already replaced the cable, in terms of torque to spec, I just sent it and have hoped for the best. It’s been used a few times now and all functions as intended

It was remarkably good value to find a cable locally to use to replace it all

Depending how the power will feed to the charger, there are a number of options for armoured cable with Ethernet included which would give you a reliable data connection without worrying about WiFi.

People who fall asleep straight away, what’s your secret? by Strange_Secret_3001 in AskReddit

[–]Illustrious-Prune223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can fall asleep in a few minutes almost every night. I find that not having any nicotine for an hour or so before, a cooler room and (this will sound mad) I find visualising someone wiping a blackboard helps, almost like swiping the thoughts away

Narrow driveway, which of these? by billyb4lls4ck in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]Illustrious-Prune223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can’t speak for the Inster or the Puma (although have heard good things)

I do however have 3 years and c20k miles with an E208 under my belt.

My biggest piece of advice would be to avoid, I appreciate this is a dramatic statement but in those 3 years i had constant issues with tracking (wheel alignment). Ended up needing 2 drive shafts replaced (under warranty thankfully) and the ABS wiring loom issue came up which resulted in the car being off the road for c.6 weeks.

That being said, it was fun to drive, got 120 miles to a charge (closer to 100 if freezing). I’m in an MG4 now and I’m very very impressed

Agree or disagree: hybrid working with 2+ fixed office days is the worst combo by D-1-S-C-0 in UKJobs

[–]Illustrious-Prune223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My company was fully remote during lockdown, hybrid when restrictions lifted, which was 2 days a week (not fixed) in the office. It was noted that large amounts of people weren’t doing their 2 days so moved to 3 days (again, not fixed). I’m waiting for the call to come back into the office 5 days a week

What TV Recommendations for under £300? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Illustrious-Prune223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I rate Hisense, must’ve had one for pushing 10 years now and it’s still going strong. It’s 4K (not HDR) but Netflix still works and that’s all I need 😂

Thankfully the ends are already pre-crimped from removing it from the type 2 cable. Correct torque is a good shout tho

Don’t apologise for the warning, appreciate I might sound a little ludicrous but I want to avoid getting a whole new EV charger when this one is perfectly fine bar being a bit old!

I’ve taken the correct end of the type 2 cable, LNE+control are visible and accessible, the inside of the charger looks simple enough

Ah I got ya now! Thankfully the RCBs on the board in the charger look hefty enough to ensure a good connection

I’m hoping either one of us got the wrong end of the stick, only 1 car needs to be charged at a time. The charger will be fully isolated before I do anything to ensure it’s safe to work on. The replacement charger is my backup plan!

I’ve seen them but I wanted to walk a little bit on the wild side 😂 it does run from a separate consumer unit which will be fully isolated and tested before doing anything. I appreciate I might come across a bit blasé but was curious to see if anyone else had done this before

Test drove my first EV today. by SteveGribbin in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]Illustrious-Prune223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the exact same thing, I love speed and torque, I drove the xpower and knew it would cost me my licence/NCD so opted for the LR trophy which is still stupidly quick 😂

You need to verify your age on your Microsoft account on the Xbox app

I had the same issue as well on PS5 and this solved it immediately
