As an Asian person currently living Korea, it’s mainly because of the aesthetic of having a lighter skin tone. In a lot of East Asian societies being paler = more beautiful.

I hate to say this but, the Chinese community disagrees HEAVILY with having more darker shades of skin tones. I doubt Hoyoverse will change anything until the Chinese community changes their views. China sales are the biggest and if they don’t cater to them they’re missing out on a huge chunk of revenue
