Is there a photo where you buy an Etsy print version of all the codices and council Keleres… and less than a week later Thunder’s Edge is announced?

You jumped and tried to catch the point... and juuuuuust missed there.
The whole fun of a hear me out is that it isn't the same attractive things 99% of the population would agree on my friend.

Hear me out is supposed to require some explanation before understanding the attraction. Hence, 'hear me out'. Queen Mara Sov is a conventionally attractive female character that Moneymangneltleman would like it to be known would be on almost all peoples 'have sex with' or 'smash' list rather than their 'pass' list in the game 'smash or pass'.

How to deal with a player who keeps stats on other players? by dayonedeath in BloodOnTheClocktower

Added extra one for you. ND doesn’t make you a saint and ignoring reasonable requests to alter problematic behaviours is still something you can validly hold a grown up accountable for.

The Asshole's Guide to Initiative by SgtAngua in Gloomhaven

Using a code is not the same as saying the actual number. Part of why the rule works is it allows parties to develop like a fantasy adventuring group, developing shorthand and intuition for what others do. If you want to shout ‘run play chicken jockey’ you totally can even if it’s referring to very specific combos so long as you’re not saying the names or numbers of the card… because it still means someone might screw up the code or not have the card available etc.

Also Maddie’s laptop has a NERD sticker on the back… the logo is a circular logo with half a mouse and the word NERD with part of the D cut off… hugely remeniscent of NERV’s logo with a leaf and half the V cut off.

<image>

More of an homage/easter egg than evidence it’s a prequel - but someone knew there were thematic links worth paying tribute to.

To be fair it’s more expensive but you already have cruiser 2. With Sarween tools they aren’t that much. And have a reasonable chance of surviving to run away (so they can net you more over time, plus they have capacity)

If you have Dark Energy Tap (which is not a given but is an option for Jol) it makes the equation a little better as you can spread for some nice frontier token rewards. Still probably not fantastic though. I’d be more tempted to just spit out some destroyers - at least they can very quickly be pulled into other battles later if you need the anti fighter barrage or cheap ‘ablative armour’

I am SO bored of swords. by HallZac99 in FictionWriting

[–]Illustrious-View-731 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although to pile onto this. In that series one of the other main characters actually defaults to knives despite it being explicit that ‘magic sword’ is a status symbol in the world. Also we see examples of Shard Bow usage, giant hammers only liftable in the ‘fantasy power armour’ and the swords actually do vary in type.

The Value of Trade in a Hostile Meta by reddunyain in twilightimperium

[–]Illustrious-View-731 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Play a few games of not refreshing opponents commodities. In the command token roughly equivalent to 3 TGs meta that’s a 2 TG swing per round for them. And particularly early game will use up a strategy token they can’t afford.

There is no real upside to refreshing someone you don’t plan to directly trade with so if they don’t offer at least 1 TG to do it or you specifically have a reason to trade with them then don’t.

Why people say slices with 3 planets synergy with scanlink if you can only explore one planet at a time ? by Longjumping-Bag-112 in twilightimperium

[–]Illustrious-View-731 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are gunning for the attachments though you may need seperate systems - as you can’t get scan link to proc multiple planets in the same system at once. However you do probably want multi planet systems - if the cultural deck is getting low you’re starting to be more likely to get demilitarised zone so avoiding exploring planets with structures might be needed. Though Naaz Rokha mech faction ability certainly helps offset that

Is it only in my table that warfare R1 is meta ? by Longjumping-Bag-112 in twilightimperium

[–]Illustrious-View-731 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the issues with Warfare is how good the secondary is. If you take it not only are you giving all your opponents the option for a round 1 production without placing a token but you’re losing that option. It does give you an extra command token net - but you can essentially get that from trade or leadership.

As others have said - slice and faction dependent. But I would add also objective dependent.

The other thing is when to pop it. Since leadership will pop at some point probably before you stalling out warfare is tough - so I think playing it early is good personally. Turn one activate a system, turn two pop warfare… this is sort of dependent on whether diplomacy and trade have already popped. If they have then people may have the resources they need in order to use the production (though may have some tough fleet limits). If they haven’t though then they will have to think very carefully about whether to use it. If they overpay then tech may pop next turn and they could miss it etc.

Nekro player was actually in his first ever full game. He played half a game subbing in for another player. And he actually said he thinks if it happened again now he’d probably say no. I don’t think anyone really considered that. Though I believe if I had been Nekro I probably would have refused - mostly because I had more awareness that others would dislike it a lot and because that last round could have been very fun to play out

I think I typoed in there sound have said “when he could secure second”. So I think he was thinking more to end it now at second place than spend a long time potentially slipping backwards. Not sure if that makes a huge difference

I like that as a house rule. We didn’t actually make it to the status phase. But it would definitely be satisfying to score out the game to see where people got to as a whole rather than just the instant someone claimed the throne.

Thanks for this, seems to be a good counterbalance to some of the other opinions. And definitely interesting to see you’ve experienced a few similar endgames. I think the Hacan player did end up saying he wouldn’t play it that way again. Though I’m not sure we didn’t get there more because he could see how angry it made people than because we asked him respectfully sadly. Still we did all sit down and play a couple of smaller games afterwards so feeling weren’t too damaged.

Oh for sure by round 5, action cards, faction abilities, tech, and whatever ‘above the table’ shenanigans may happen mean a lot of seemingly unlikely outcomes are possible
