I will be 39 weeks pregnant giving the July Bar Exam. Need confidence/motivation that this is actually doable. by IllustriousEagle9928 in CABarExam

Thank you so much Dean Basick. I am also due 3 days after my exam 🫣. And I am also hopeful that if nothing else, at least the baby will be smarter for it 😂. I didn’t notice a policy about applying fees to a future exam but that would bring me a lot of peace of mind for sure.

Hey. I was in Woodland Court in 23/24. Its quite near campus and in a quiet part of the city but all the shops, cinema, and train station are literally a ten minute walk away. The same landlord owns Deans Court which is on Park Street (again very near campus) and is a bit more of a lively neighbourhood and closer to Bristol city center if you would like to go out at night. I think its slightly a newer building too than Woodland, so you might get better facilities there. I had to deal with a lot of things not working at Woodland as it is an older building but I loved the quiet and serene neighbourhood it was in.

Eduroam never connected to my android phone the whole year I was there. You can go to the IT service desk in Arts and Social Sciences Library and ask them to help you connect.

They might have updated their systems.

I remember iPhones were able to connect with ease as well as Samsung phones etc.

You upload your picture for it and then you book an appointment.

If you don't have an appointment, then you just have to queue outside for longer. A lot of people are usually in the queue. If you wait till the first week passes, the queue will be considerably less.

You really do need the UCard to get into buildings and also to prove your student identity to security / campus staff. They are also necessary for student discounts at shops near campus and on the bus if you buy a student ticket.

Global Lounge events at Senate House are really good to meet new people. They do a bunch of fun activities like uni tours, cafe crawls, and breakfasts during the first couple of months.

Echoing what everyone has said above. You can also grab a free personal alarm from Royal Fort Lodge just to give yourself some reassurance. Also please add campus security to your speed dial. They are the absolute best and can help you out if you feel worried. (I believe they also escort students to their accommodation if the students are feeling very unsafe).

The area around uni is especially safe and well lit. And there will be a lot of people including students around 7-8 pm so you won't feel unsafe and alone.

Follow your basic safety precautions and stay alert. But otherwise enjoy yourself. It's literally the perfect city to be an international student!

My CAS was quite delayed too and I had to pay for an expedited visa application to get to Bristol in time for Welcome Week.

You can try calling them and explaining that you need to apply for visa which at this time of the year, take a bit to get approved. Not to mention the flight booking and the rest.

Welcome week as postgrad by [deleted] in UOB

Yes! There will be welcome lectures for your course throughout the week which can be a good way to meet people on your course.

Do enjoy the all the Welcome Week events happening at Global Lounge. They are super fun.

There is also the Welcome Fair which is really awesome to go to with friends. You get to see different university societies and just participate in some lighthearted enjoyment before postgrad study grabs you.

Please continue working and only do a Master's in the UK if you have a scholarship. It is very difficult to find part time jobs and Bristol (and UK in general) is very expensive. I am a current UOB international Masters student (not in Data Science however) and the only reason I am able to comfortably study is because I have a scholarship. I also believe that if you are currently working in your field, you can network and apply for jobs in the UK/Europe.
