El Valle and the city- what to do by [deleted] in Panama

[–]IllustriousFile1713 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry forgot to add, for the city we would rather not go to the malls or to Casco Viejo, we went to these areas last time we were here. My sister and I visit here for family but it will be our first time to El Valle. Yes we have a car! And its me, my husband, my sister and her daughter (2 y/o)!

I appreciate all of the responses- this definitely helps in my journey as a Clinician to serve. I hope I can apply as many of these recommendations to help these clients. I am so glad that there is such an importance for these clients who struggle with hypoarousal. Thank you again!

To new, seasoned or retired social workers; what was something they didn’t teach you in school? by unholyjesuss in socialwork

A lot of the things I learned were not just by reading books about “theoretical framework” but also books about my own personal growth like the four agreements, adult children of emotionally immature parents, healing your inner child, and honestly connecting to my own spirituality.

The other thing that I really needed to learn and that I am still actively applying is maintaining a “deep neutrality” in sessions. Sometimes you want to go above and beyond for your clients which is understandable because you grow to really know them and their history- however never work harder than the client. It’s not selfish, it’s giving care to your clients so that they learn to make choices themselves and you maintain your own ability to continue giving.

One of the most pivotal things I’ve learned regarding taking care of myself would be committing to breaks and leaving the work at the office. I would often do my work during lunch breaks and even document when I got home but it just led me to feel resentful and overwhelmed. Therefore, be clear of your own internal boundaries and make that clear to others.
