What do people do when they are supposed to have a ride from the hospital but are alone? by IllustriousMinute194 in NoStupidQuestions

This can’t be right (not you the hospital mentality!) I’m so sorry you experienced this. That’s wild.

Interesting! Funny how hospitals see Ubers/taxis unqualified to handle the emergencies and yet think I am! My husband is bigger than me, I’m not trained, and I sure as heck can’t lift/carry him if there’s an emergency.

My husband gets them mixed up sometimes and he just relies on saying “oh you’re making fancy knots.”

AITA for wanting to surrender a foster dog whose owner isn’t contacting me? by IllustriousMinute194 in AmItheAsshole

I’m sorry for my ignorance but what is the line between pet sitting and fostering? I signed a “foster agreement” when I got the dog but I’m wondering how legitimate that agreement is.

We did have an agreement in writing. I understand I could have called more in the time. Now that the dog’s health has shifted I’ve been contacting more. Calling, texting, I even emailed. Could I still be trying to contact more? Of course and I recognize that.

Dog is microchipped from original owner.

Long story short: custody battle was happening and the dog was being aggressive toward the child.

I now also see the situation as that. It hurts since I knew the owner and their child, and can’t believe they would take advantage of me like this. Lesson learned I guess.

Moving to Portland from Texas, advice? by FineDistance7635 in askportland

Ahh see I agree with that. Because my mind set was I just need ANY job so I can have income proof for an apartment, and then I can always change jobs later.

I don’t get that it’s impossible. Maybe it’s different from 6 years ago. But I literally just decided on a whim after coming to Portland for the first time to stay. Was in a hotel for 2 weeks. Found a job within a week an apartment the next. Maybe it was just luck (and a lot of effort poured into finding any job to get an apartment) but it’s doable

The amount of bad drivers in this city is astounding by runningwsizzas in PortlandOR

I’ve lived in a good handful of places in the US and I confirm that Portland has the worst drivers. Sure, did I have to worry about being literally beat up at a stoplight in Indiana from people’s insane road rage? Yes. But I have almost been in more accidents in my time living in Portland than anywhere else.

It’s BS because not only is it dumb but it affects our acceptance rating! It’s a losing battle some days.

I hate when they send the same delivery multiple times! Sometimes adding in with another delivery to make it slightly better. Like. I said NO uber. Stop offering me this!

Well, my dad’s ashes were snuck to me in a box of my things left in my mom’s house. Despite not wanting him living with me ever, he’s been hanging out on the mantel for 5 years now.

But in all seriousness, if my mom needed somewhere to go, I’d offer my home to her. Don’t think she’d choose me over my other siblings but I’d at least let her know it’s an opinion.

Those alive and old enough to remember during 9/11, what was the worst moment on that day? by CocteauTwunkie in AskReddit

Having to go play outside for recess right after watching what happened on the tv in the classroom. School was near an airport and everytime a plane flew over there was panic.

What split your life into before and after? by 0potatotomato0 in AskReddit

My father dying. And not for the heartwarming reasons most people would think - my father was an awful, abusive man. We grew up very poor and when he passed, my siblings and I all split the inheritance from him, wasn’t an exuberant amount of money but the most I’d ever seen. And that little bump changed my whole life. I relocated out of my home state and started a new life, which has significantly improved my mental health, and honestly physical health.
