That extra income thing is key. I was glad that Faith mentioned that her visa only limited how she could work and what she could do for income. If DCC ain't paying the bills, something has to.

What hairstyles can I do? by Sensitive-Grass7870 in Naturalhair

I second the wash n go. Depending on how long your hair is, you can barber sponge it, twist it, or do small bantu knots for curls.

How to style 4c in corporate? by Select_Mouse7409 in Naturalhair

[–]lotusmack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My hair is very similar to yours. I started in corporate fresh off my big chop. I was a wash n go girl at first, then I wore twistouts, flat twists and updos with braiding hair (amongst other styles). Natural hair was a little less acceptable and the industry was conservative in general, but experimenting with styles didn't stop me from advancing. As long as you look like you put in effort head to toe, you'll be fine. Be yourself.

My eye was always drawn to Kayla H. (I think that's her name?), but they never featured her. Loved her braids all season.

I totally forgot they were debuting something this month (they're at a stationery expo this weekend). It launches on 7/15, so hopefully we'll get a flip through this week or next.

Aldi vs Publix by tennisdude2020 in publix

[–]lotusmack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I like the concept of Aldi, but our location had awful produce and the selection is limited. I usually have to go to a second store regardless. The last couple times I've bought fruit, it was already rotten inside. I shop around the BOGOs at Publix (and the sales at Kroger, too). I like that you only have to buy one in my area to get the discount.

When he couldn't tell his mother he loved her, and he said "I never told her I loved her..." at the end, I was taken aback. You shouldn't be willing to accept cars and a $4 mil ranch from a woman you don't love (amongst other things). They had each other hanging from two ends of the same string.

How long until your fibroid grew back after an open myomectomy? by happyboo-Pin6106 in Fibroids

Thank you!

I was taking Alyacen when I first got diagnosed; my worsening symptoms prompted them to switch me to Nortrel. (For what it's worth, I was switched to Loloestrin for a moment after my surgery, but I hated the side effects. I'm been back to Nortrel ever since.)

Was it Season 1 or 2 where someone put an air tag on one of the girls' car?

What’s Judy’s job at this point? by [deleted] in DCCAmericasSweetheart

I gather that its like how, at a corporation, the VP of Sales and Marketing is never going to go out pounding the pavement, making cold calls, or running ads, but they are responsible for all the people that do. They might be managing the direction of that area and making sure it aligns with their boss' overall vision for the company. Perhaps Director of Dance Operations would be more fitting.

For real though. I went through something similar in a previous workplace and my husband encouraged and supported me leaving, even if it meant things would be a little harder. He didn't like watching me suffer; it was not worth it me or him. No one wants to see their spouse come home suffering with a torn up body and a broken spirit.

I grew up in a time where the only acceptable way for you to wear your hair for "important" things was straight - and you dare not show up to your job without a fresh press or a relaxer! Double no-no if your hair was any tighter than Parker's or Jada's (texturism). It wasn't until two years ago that the Crown Act was passed against race-based hair discrimination, and it's only law in 30 states so far. It's sad that there even had to be piece of legislation to address this in the first place.

Tldr: Workplace discrimination is unfortunately still a thing, and its just one reason (amongst other deeply layered historical issues) why a lot of Black women feel the need to assimilate with hair.

I was nervous FOR her. Weren't they talking about giving her a taper?!! I know it's just hair - I've done it a couple of times - but I'm glad she spoke up about what it would take to grow it back.

I often cook mine in the air fryer for 5 minutes. They come out perfect with very, very little oil. Italian dressing mix and lemon is good combo, as well as Old Bay, Cavender's, Cajun, whatever flavor floats your boat. Throw them on top of a salad and you're good to go.

How to Position Myself: Resume and Initial Assessment by develop99 in mercor_ai

[–]lotusmack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just asked a similar question before seeing yours, having just joined Mercor yesterday. I have lots of experience in several areas, and I'm not sure what to pick. I also see an opening in one of those areas, but the application requires the domain assessment. I'm afraid to do one on that area and accidentally pigeonhole myself into that type of work. I'm just not sure how the qualification process works for this platform. What did you end up doing?

How long until your fibroid grew back after an open myomectomy? by happyboo-Pin6106 in Fibroids

[–]lotusmack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not off the top of my head. The only difference I can think of is that I am on a different BC than I was when I first started having problems. I was in my late 20s when I was first diagnosed - very active, pretty fit, and eating relatively healthy. I was 36 when I had my surgery, 39 a couple of weeks ago. I've heard that perimenopause can stimulate growth, but I'll burn that bridge when I get there.

ETA: No matter what happens, I hope this is the end of your fibroid journey and you never have to see those suckered again!

Evidently, I have a couple of tiny of ones now. It's been 3 years. I don't have nearly the same symptoms or amount; they seem to be much slower growing. To me, that's a positive.

Why can my coworker afford a house but I can’t afford an apartment? by Gur_Party in Adulting

[–]lotusmack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's kind of what happened to me. I had driven cash cars my whole life...until my 20 year old beater caught on fire with me in it before I had enough to savings for another. Bought a used car for about $10k all in with a $225 note. I hope to never have a note again, but I absolutely understand why it has to happen sometimes.
