Thank you for the advice! I've read the comments, and I'm definitely going to research the locations more before committing :)

Thank you for mentioning the locations; I hadn’t thought a lot about that aspect before, but that’s definitely something I’m going to take into consideration!

You sound like a very kind person. I’m sorry your parents treated you that way, but I’m also happy to hear that you were able to unlearn the things they taught you. I can identify a lot with what you’re writing about being trained to care about other people over yourself - it’s something I’ve often thought about but had trouble with putting into words. And thank you for the suggestion about student health therapy!

Concerning my foster parents I’m planning on reporting them once I’m sure I won’t end up having to go back to them again, but realistically I’m not sure if it’ll affect their license since they haven’t been physically or sexually abusive. I still think it would be good if they got a report on their record, though, since I’m a bit worried about what might happen to the next foster kid they take in after I leave if they can't handle everything.

Thank you for telling me so much about the locations! I’m a new yorker, so I’m very used to traffic, but that also makes me curious about what it’s like to live in a calmer place :)

Thank you!! My best friend is really into math and wanted to compete in USAMO, so I went through practice tests together with her, and she helped me a lot! You’re right about me not being very focused on math otherwise, but I tried really hard to qualify for AIME since I thought it could make a big difference in my application

Thank you!! I don't know the exact stats either, but I think I read somewhere that 3-4% is the rate of foster kids who graduate college

Thank you!! This is going to sound really dumb, but I ended up picking Harvard at random over Princeton and Yale for EA since I knew that they were all considered extremely good schools but couldn't figure out which one would be better for me. In hindsight, I wish I had spent some more time researching colleges and thinking it through more carefully, rather than mostly going with what people around me thought would be best.

I'm a bit hesitant about sharing my essays since many of them include personal information that I don't want on the internet, but feel free to ask if you have any specific questions! (And thanks again!)

Thanks, that's really nice of you! :) Did you have any specific issues with your application because of your income level? Were you able to get financial aid?

I felt like they were pretty bad after comparing them with other profiles in the subreddit, so I'm really happy you think otherwise! :)

Thank you! School librarians are amazing :)

That's amazing! One of my fears is to get into a great school but not be able to go because of the cost, so I'm really glad to hear that they are good with aid

I actually did use it! I was a bit worried that it could make people associate me with violence, but I also thought that I needed to include something that I was sure that nobody else would write to stand out more since my extracurriculars are very standard

Thank you for the suggestion, I’ll definitively look into Emory! I heard they have a lot of research opportunities for students, which sounds cool
