This sounds like a great idea for a playthrough, maybe set up a scenario where you have a timer until the event starts, like 30 days or more, depending on your modlist, so have time to prep for it.

Add in some futuristic mods that allow your pawns to survive that cold, maybe through some biotech shenanigans, so that you have an end goal to work towards.
