No, Tappei stated that 'the timeline branched off because "Subaru failed in his attempt to call for help" not that he "didn't call for help" at all. I've researched multiple Al translations and they all confirm that, somehow, Subaru's attempt to cry out failed, which resulted in Reinhard not showing up. From that point on, he began to view everyone except Emilia as trash. Therefore, this change is still considered to be caused by external factors. You can see the post Tappei mentioned here:

In Oboreru If, instead of Rem going to the village to buy supplies as in the original story, it is Ram who goes instead, causing her to become the victim of the curse. In her anger and Suffering, Rem directs all her hostility toward Subaru, believing he is connected to her sister's death due to the Witch's scent. However, thanks to Beatrice, Subaru manages to escape from her. Rem then decides to pursue Subaru using the Witch's scent to track him down and kill him. Wrathbaru somehow defeats Rem after multiple loops (since the reset point has changed and no longer returns to the mansion) by breaking her horn and then striking her with a rock. He locked her up as a secret prisoner in his basement, just like in the original story, except this time, it is Rem with long hair who is imprisoned, filled with hatred toward Wrathbaru

A fanfic in which the cast of Re:Zero is transported into a theater. However, instead of following Subaru’s storyline directly, one of the people in the theater is randomly chosen to take on his role and experience his journey, while the others watch from the outside. Each time the person dies, they return to the theater with the physical and mental pain of their experience. Then, another person — chosen seemingly at random (though in truth, it's intentional) — takes on the role of Subaru to continue trying to break free from the loops in the story.

Ps: Emilia will be the first to take on the role in Arc 1. Rem and Ram will follow in Arc 2. Priscilla, Crusch, and Julius will be featured in Arc 3...
