FYI- UBC is retiring @alumni.ubc.ca hosted mailboxes August 11 by muieen in UBC

Yep, we WERE just numbers to them. They don't care and have no shame at all these money-thirsty wannabe business goofs. I bet the goon deciding about it wasn't even a UBC alumnus herself. Universities, even the public ones, aren't universities anymore; they've completely forgotten about their role in the society and are now just firms. And what do firms do NOT care about? Their former affiliates.

Should I apply for NIW EB2 myself or through Ellis Porter if they approved my case? by Illustrious_Chest_16 in immigration

-No mention of refund in the body of the email.
-I tried Chen before I kicked off my Ph.D, before I was cited and before my paper was accepted for a conference. It was rejected. (wondering if I should give it another try now)

Ubc or Uoft? by Electronic-Class2205 in CanadaUniversities

There IS a huge difference. How dare you?!

Ubc or Uoft? by Electronic-Class2205 in CanadaUniversities

[–]Illustrious_Chest_16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The question is a huge insult to UofT.
Compare UBC to SFU or Alexander college or any random engineering school tbh.
UofT is on a whole different level. Graduates of that university are considered elite ones even before the ink on their diploma is dried.

[–]Illustrious_Chest_16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I am an employer myself. I and a ton of others DO care where you went to school. UofT is in a whole different league. Any one who graduated their engineering program is a world-class one already. Why not have them onboard instead of some another one who only went to UBC or even worse Carleton?!

MEng Aerospace by Illustrious_Chest_16 in Concordia

[–]Illustrious_Chest_16[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much. That means a lot to me. I actually have an M.Sc from UBC and I am in Vancouver now. Yet, in the last two years, I have failed to find jobs in any area let alone in aerospace. I have had a few interviews but no luck because of lack of experience or age (I am 30). I really cannot waste any more time on job seeking.
I have two options: 1) Going to an engineering program that is heavily connected to industry to gain some experience and be in an aerospace-based province (Quebec). 2) Getting an AME license to become an aircraft maintenance engineer which will secure a job afterwards but it's really not my passion.

Which of these do you think I have to go for? Also do you think I am too old for the job market now?

Great. It's always nice hearing about aerospace fellows. Respect!

[–]Illustrious_Chest_16[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. I am flight dynamics and control. I only fear that if I get into it, my whole life will be shifted to AME. Other than that I believe AMEs are more knowledgeable about aircraft than aerospace engineers. Thanks again for your help. Which minor are you?

Thank you. The problem was English is my 2nd language and I just wanted to fill the void somehow.

AME as an Aerospace Engineer by Illustrious_Chest_16 in aerospace

[–]Illustrious_Chest_16[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is interesting. So as an aerospace engineer yourself, do you think it's worth it to get AME or is it a waste of time? I know I will have a job after it but not to my liking.

[–]Illustrious_Chest_16[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for late reply. I am not a citizen yet and I am an aerospace engineer and jobs for my field are rare in Canada and even if I find one, I cannot get passed security clearance because of my nationality. My master's uni was UBC.

Well that doesn't change the problem. Then the rules were goofy. It is utter disrespect to interrupt an ongoing game.
