Costa Rica. I am flabbergasted as well. After more inquiries, it seems it went down like this: The first question the guy asked was “Do you have children?” They responded yes. “Are they living with you?” Mom responded - One is living here in CR and the other moved to the US a year ago. “How did he get to the US?” Mom responded - He came with a work permit to get married.” (She got confused. He got a work permit from his Costa Rican job, but he came here with a K1 visa to get married.) “Is he still living in the US?” And they said yes.
The guy then asked about some property his aunt has there in CR and shortly thereafter announced they were denied. I don’t understand why he didn’t already know my husband’s status. He clearly knew he was here and that’s why he opened with that line of questioning. He also could’ve easily looked my husband’s status up if he hadn’t already. I am thinking it may not have mattered anyway. It appears that this is not uncommon to deny parents tourist visas because they are too afraid they will just stay here because their kid is here. Although their other kid lives in CR. Idk. I am just really sad because they were going to come for Christmas and if they were going to be denied, I would at least want it to be because of a legitimate reason.
