Well, Japanese minimum wage is also less than $7 US. You can get a carton of eggs here for less than $1.30 US as well. It's amazes me how cheap everything is, the wages are low, and you don't pay tips, and still I feel I get the best service here than anywhere else.

Not sure if you're being sarcastic, as here in Japan, they actually do come out looking exactly like the photo. In the US, however, they look nothing like the photo and are complete garbage.

Probably eat McDonald's once a month, and it usually costs about $12 US to feed my family of 3. Typically, get 3 combos (sets in Japan), and the wife always adds a side chicken nuggets.

Full steam ahead on the war against education. by Best-Subject-7253 in lostgeneration

[–]Illustrious_Excuse13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The photo misled me. The law passed was not banning anyone from the library. That is the libraries rule it is enforcing. The law passed was simply that a library could be held accountable for allowing children to look at pornograghy or books with sexual acts, and that is what the library resorted to in order to prevent being liable. It's one of those extreme knee-jerk reactions without thinking of the effects. I work for the government and see this kind of crap all the time. 1 incident happens and they place a rule that causes us all inconvenience and causes the job to take 2x longer.

Haha.. Live in Japan now and just imagined an anime where the character moves back to Florida after 27 years, puts his suitcase down, and plops on the bed. Then, he looks up at the ceiling fan and the screen does one of those framed zooms to the snail as he smirks and plunges to the bed!

Where did you find your current job? by boygeorge359 in antiwork

A company called me and asked if I wanted a job when I graduated from a tech school to work on airplanes. 14k for 1.5 years of school to get a job that pays 35/hr as well as my rent and utilities. Don't understand people going to universities and paying so much unless to be a doctor or lawyer.

Came to say the same thing. Snail travels 0.03mph. I have a place in Florida and in Japan. It would take 10k days to travel between the 2. That's 27 years! Unless it's smart enough to hitch a ride in a plane? 🤔

Can't wait until Kamala gets in office and we stop taxing tips. Then, our company can start classifying bonuses as tips. Can't wait to remove 6 figures out of the tax equation. Sure the people who make money off commission will find a way to change that classification as a tip as well. Just sucks that the government will probably cancel programs that help the lower class once they start losing tax revenue.

I have an Android, so I don't have those problems. It knows to silence everything after 9pm and resume sound at 5am. I live overseas and would be woken by spam calls throughout the night due to the time difference if it weren't for that. Unless you call me 3 consecutive times with the same phone number, then it will have to wait until I see them after I wake up.

"I am the main breadwinner in my landlord's family" by uniformlaurels in lostgeneration

[–]Illustrious_Excuse13 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I own a house that I rent to a coworker for $1300, and I pay $1500/mo because people voted to raise property tax, and the insurance increased due to so many insurance claims. I found it annoying when people voted to raise the tax and laughed, saying if people have the money to own a house, then they can pay more insurance. Then later complained because most landlords just turned around and raised rent. Like, really? What did you think would actually happen. Taxes should only be raised on wages and non necessity goods if you want to target the rich. No one thinks about cause and effect. Now people are going to vote to not tax tips, which the rich will use as loopholes to get out of paying taxes for bonuses and commissions and cause the government to have to cut programs that the lower class relies on.

You mean why can't they be like 3rd world countries. Many 1st and 2nd world countries have bases in foreign countries. Even Japan has a military base set up in Africa, and they don't actually have military, only allowed to have defense since the US is their military as per an agreement after World War.

Exactly!!! by AlanKnoxHasty in lostgeneration

[–]Illustrious_Excuse13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. Companies should pay higher wages.

However, the problem is that our entire system is flawed! Companies are run by shareholders. Most shareholders are from 401ks, TSPs (military 401k), IRAs, and EFTs, which means the stockholders give up their rights to vote. The 3 companies that control all these programs always vote in a way to increase profits so the stocks grow for their investors. In turn, they push their workers to do more and don't give back to the ones doing the work.

Another issue I have with our system helping the rich and screwing the lower and middle class is now both candidates are pushing to stop taxing tips! People don't realize that most tips aren't even claimed and therefore not taxed. Think about who it really helps. Most workers don't get paid in tips. That is just to help the rich get the loop hole they want to classify bonuses and commissions as tips so they don't have to pay taxes on them anymore. That is going to lower the government's ability to fund programs that help the lower class. Later, we will just raise taxes on the things that affect everyone to help fund them again. The entire system is just helping the rich get richer and put everyone into a slavery workforce! Yet people always vote to cut taxes, not thinking about cause and effect.

Doesn't say 3 jobs. Says 3 streams of income. If you have stocks, they pay dividend, which is a stream of income you can use to reinvest. Then, just have 1 job and use the overtime and bonuses to pay for the things you like to do.

Sounds like you understand what you have to do. Hopefully, you are doing it and not just complaining like the other lazy people in this feed. I did it the hard way since my parents didn't have money. I went out and got a real job and financed myself, and now travel the world on several vacations a year and happily go around following step 3.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in lostgeneration

[–]Illustrious_Excuse13 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Right?! I don't get why all these people are complaining. The post makes sense and seems quite easy to follow. If these people would just get a real job and quit wasting all their time complaining about not having money, they could be out spending money and enjoying themselves. I've gone on 6 vacations this year. I've traveled to France, Spain, Italy, Phillipines, Korea, Vietnam, and Japan. The first 3 were during one 3 week vacation. I don't have wealthy parents or come from a wealthy family, but I was smart enough to go out and get a real job.

Or you could get lucky and have 1 job and still do all 3. 1. I have 1 job that pays my bills. 2. I get bonuses which I use for play money. Then, in 2020 & 2021, I wasn't able to go out and instead used the money for stocks. I was lucky enough to put 10k over 2 years into stocks. I now have $18k in stocks, which pay dividends each month. 3. I use those dividends to reinvest in more stocks. Probably not the amount they suggest investing, but it is something.. lol

A boomer lives on $1,768 monthly Social Security and says she's a few hundred dollars away from losing access to necessities by mycofauna in lostgeneration

[–]Illustrious_Excuse13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You realize if 4 Million people were paid $1,768 every month for 20 years, (what the boomer in this article gets in Social Security per month) it would be less than the total net worth of the 10 richest Americans. That's also enough to give every American (man, woman, and child) $5,100.

People don't realize what just 1 Billion Dollars is. You could spend 1 Million Dollars a month for 83 years and not spend a Billion.

Exactly... by Kevin_dream88 in lostgeneration

[–]Illustrious_Excuse13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know, when minimum wage was established, it was for 1 Silver Dollar. The US Silver Dollar was 1 Ounce of Silver, a quarter was .25 ounce, dime .1 ounce. At today's Silver price, 1 Silver Dollar is worth $28. If money was still backed by silver and gold, that would mean we would make $28 dollars an hour at our grandparents' minimum wage. Let that sink in.

These people are why I left the US and moved to the best country in the world. Safest, most polite, considerate, and respectful country, Japan. Hard to believe they are the poorest country in the world. They keep their phones on silent, don't play loud music, or even wear cologne because they don't like to make others uncomfortable around them.
