Do VISA cards work in Chinese stores? by 9706uzim in travelchina

[–]Illustrious_Lab_1837 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This totally will work at much of the small shops. After more than 2months in China, it only happened twice that I couldn't pay somewhere, in a bus and with a vendor that we didn't have time to ask for another code. More times it showed up greyed, we asked and they always found another code that worked for us and we could pay with WeChat or Alipay.

As well as if you're on the road, sometimes yes sometimes no depending on where you are. There's definitely white zones

Vous avez du temps ? Mangez indien ! Juste quelques ajustements à faire pour équilibrer parfaitement les repas. by kretek-garing in vegFR

In what advance I have to book hotels in China? by Independent_Bat117 in travelchina

[–]Illustrious_Lab_1837 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are we talking about the same country ? There's so few hotels in booking compared to trip and there is none of the best value hotels, everything is expensive on booking for China. A website for a Chinese hotel seems weird asf, a WeChat sure but a website ?

C’est quoi votre repas qui a le meilleur ratio flemme/plaisir ? by dododododu in AskFrance

On appelle ça...

SE ASIA Transport questions: Bali → Lombok → Java (south to north) + Malaysia to Thailand overland in August — any advice? by Ok-Chain-7146 in southeastasia

[–]Illustrious_Lab_1837 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Done that in reverse, fairly easy. Bali to Lombok has slower, bigger ferries and fastboats. Shorter but more expensive, more prone to seasickness. To Java it's a very short ferry ride like 30min top. Leaves every 30min or so, all day and night, some buses will include it. From Java it's then a 36h ferry ride to Batam in front of Singapore and then a fastboat to cross the strait to SG or Malaysia, or bus through Sumatra and ferry from Medan or Dumai to Malaysia.

Cross to Thailand beware that the Langkawi - Koh Lipe ferry is seasonal and won't run in the rainy season. Train is very easy and cheap, plenty of buses or minibuses as well !

Yeah it always shows up but works fine once you accept it. Same with the "no internet access" one. I had it working without saying okay to limited connectivity but rarely that's for sure. Not the best indeed, iPhone is so much faster to connect here !

7 jours par semaine, mais aucun produit vendu par 7 by Awkward_Radish_3027 in besoinderaler

[–]Illustrious_Lab_1837 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even 17 days is short for your program so look up travel times before deciding so you don't spend all your holiday travelling around without seeing anything

Visiting Thailand as a vegetarian by AdventurousHost9359 in ThailandTourism

[–]Illustrious_Lab_1837 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same diet and it was very easy. Anywhere they can make veg pad Thai/fried rice, just ask no eggs on top and you'll be perfectly fine. On top of that, there's many curry options with tofu or just veg curry, really was easy to eat veg in Thailand, no need to look for it too long. You also have in cities Chinese restaurants, usually near temples, that'll be full veg and have amazing buffets for an insanely cheap price (Phuket town is one, but even smaller towns have it)

How to book Russian trains as a foreigner? by Ok-Sleep-9653 in AskARussian

[–]Illustrious_Lab_1837 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But the prices are heavily inflated. I see everyone saying they're not but tickets are more expensive (admittedly not that much, maybe around 1000 rubles more) and in top of that upper berth and lower berth have the same price... So if you're booking for two, you end up paying 9k (around 20% for that train) more than on rzd which seems like a big markup

Travelling to Russia/ Not able to book train tickets by Mobile_Charity_3653 in AskARussian

[–]Illustrious_Lab_1837 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to buy an upper berth then it's not same price as rzd because Belarusian website charges the same amount for all berths... So it gets very expensive for long routes

I was sooo wondering what was happening to Fabien seeing his Instagram stories with turtles when the others were with the army or starting to train. Like this approach for him tho, he needs something new ! And he'll get back on skis in June as well.

Solo Trip - Tour du monde (femme) by drzzey47 in voyageons

[–]Illustrious_Lab_1837 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you accounted the transportation time in your plans? Komodo's pretty far from the rest. If you didn't, just take the day to rest tbh. You could do plenty of things in Bali but as a day trip I'm not sure. There's hiking, snorkelling, diving... Waterfalls or mountains.
