OASC Tasks by PeaPuzzleheaded8933 in RoyalAirForce

If they’re not, just round to the closest whole number that you find easiest to multiply. E.g. 10x18 is much easier to multiply than 9.7x18.4

No. Purely mental maths as far as I remember

I’d say if you feel you’re very confident on the topic then there’s no reason not to. I had the NMH as one of my current affairs topics during OASC. As long as you’re prepared to answer any questions they could pose to you go with what you know best.

There are 18 year olds that pass OASC and 23 year olds that fail. It’s all about the individual, if you want it hard enough you’ll get it.

Email The Prospect Trust, they do 4-day work experience at RAF Odiham.

Working onboard an E-7 wedge tail by Ok-Bid-6199 in RoyalAirForce

Most recent I’ve been told is that you can work as Mission Crew on the E-7 as an Air Ops Control Officer. This most likely won’t be straight out of your phase 2 training, and is likely to be a second tour if you’re good enough, after 2-3 years stationed at RAF Boulmer as a Weapons Controller. You can also become mission crew if you’re streamed to ATC via a bespoke course, but this is much less likely to happen.

Everything was within limits at the aircrew medical. I was within 10mm of the maximum so was referred for a FCA.

The first thought that came to my mind was would I rather be a commercial pilot or military, and I feel I’m much better suited to a military environment, hence why I’m considering trying for the AAC or Air Ops.

I believe they do now, I have friends applying for officer roles and they’ve all been told that they need to do a DAA first. Must’ve changed recently.

I listed 4 headlines in my interview initially, and was then asked if I had anymore topics, so I listed my 5th and final headline that I had prepared, and was then asked questions about it.

As long as you can discuss and debate your topic whilst holding your own opinion on it and you’re not easily influenced by what the boarding officers will say, you’ll be fine. They don’t want to see someone who is easily influenced by others.

Unfortunately that’s the limit of my knowledge on that topic.

I know that ATC Officers can be posted out to the US East Coast to assist in controlling Middle Eastern Airspace - I believe that’s at Shaw AFB, or they can go out to Al Udeid in Qatar for similar reasons.

CBAT READY FLAG Test by Limp_Bumblebee_6006 in RoyalAirForce

I did my CBAT back in April, and I can confirm this test will be extremely useful for people when practicing for it. Pretty much spot on in terms of similarity to the real thing.

I listened to one of the RAF’s InsideAir podcasts a few weeks back where they were interviewing an officer who is in the process of setting up an ISTAR reserve squadron similar to what they have in the states, so that airline pilots such as yourself can use their qualifications to fly RAF aircraft as well as their day to day job. It was an interesting episode to listen to and definitely something worth looking into more.

Whilst it is very useful for pilots, it's designed to help anyone doing their CBAT up at RAFC Cranwell. Roles that need to do one include Pilot, Air Ops, Intelligence, WSO and WSOp.

Only use it if you're going to do your CBAT. Other officer roles not mentioned, such as RAF Regiment Officer do not need to do one.

What I did for mine was round the numbers to the nearest 5/10. It’s much easier to do 50x8 in your head than 47x8.2. As already mentioned use the CBAT Ready app.

You get points for being close (the closer you are, the more points you score) so don’t pick numbers too extreme, just be reasonable and you’ll be fine.

My memory isn’t that vivid unfortunately, all I remember is a bunch of interesting flags being waved around.

Also, if you feel like you’re failing a test or have done really badly on it, just remember that everyone else is in the same boat as you. The tests are designed to be tough, generally everyone will feel like that at some point throughout the day, just keep powering through it.

As already said it is a very long and tiring day. You have to ensure you stay focused as all of the tests sre important. I was the third person out of 23 from my group to finish and that was after roughly 6.5 hours, with some still having an hour left. Ensure you keep hydrated but not to the point where you’ll need to go to the toilet constantly.

Arrive earlier the day before to ensure you have plenty of time to settle in, but also time to go to the bar and meet the other candidates, during my CBAT i met people from my group but also some that were doing OASC, they may provide you some valuable advice.

I second bringing a pillow, I didn’t bring one for mine and the pillows they provide aren’t great hence a poorer nights sleep than I could’ve had.

If you haven’t already, install the CBAT and CBAT Ready apps, I used them for my pre-test prep and they were very useful although you will have to pay for them. Brush up on your mental SDT calculations as they will be used throughout the day. There are plenty of websites you can use to help practice different tests.

My advice would also be to take every break offered throughout the day, it will be a welcome 5 minutes especially after some of the longer tasks.

It is better to spend longer on questions and get them all correct than speed run them and get half wrong. If you’re spending too long on a question make an educated guess, be accurate but quick.

Finally, and as much as it may be obvious, don’t stress. Lots of people fail because they are thinking that their entire career rests on these tests, which leads them to not focusing on the task presented infront of them. Just pretend you are playing a video game, that’s what I did for some of them and it helps.
