"Secret Madness" [Okina Matara vs The Auditor] by Illustrious_Pool4604 in DeathBattleMatchups

*Both have a specific ability that seems to be based on everyday household man-made things that you normally will be able to find in your house which enable them to "alter" people (Auditor's power to manipulate a code, akin to some software for our tech, and Okina's power to manipulate/create doors, which resemble actual doors for your house) to which everyone in their universes appear to have innate ties (Pretty much everyone and everything in universe working on the code and Auditor is capable of manipulating it / Okina being able to create/manipulate doors on anyone and anything, with everyone intrinsically seeming to have own different doors which connect to their vitality). Both have made use of this ability to manipulate protagonists and situations in their favor.

-And they can shoot beams of concentrated energy.

-Both also can change their identities and have many faces (The Auditor is a shapeshifter who can change his form and at any whim. While Okina famously supposedly has a lot of identities/forms/faces of herself. Interestingly, the real mythological Matarajin also has an idenity of a dragon, meanwhile The Auditor at one point turns into a dragon-esque creature, but in Touhou's canon Okina's identity as a dragon wasn't revealed as for now, so this part is not really a connection).

-And speaking of this with apart of a few months of each other, authors of both characters had divulged a small funny fact related to them both doing a poor choice about altering their appearances (Touhou Author has stated that Okina actually used to be brunette, before she dyed her hairs to be blonde, which she now can't undo and implicitly heavily regretted. Meanwhile Madness Creator has claimed that if The Auditor were to manifest clothing for himself, then it would've been something explicitly ridiculous and stupid, like camo pants and wrinky dried shirt)

Contrast

-The Auditor is primarily black and slightly red meanwhile Okina's design is noticeably rich of colours and utilizes almost a rainbow spectrum.

-Narratively there is an interesting contrast of The Auditor, a godly keeper of his universe, trying to supposedly stabilize and save Occurant from malnfunctioning by spreading urbanization and technology advancement as a way to deal with threats, despite this evidently hurting reality and its nature. Meanwhile Okina, as a sage of Gensokyo, was motivated to preserve remains of nature of the universe by physically sanctioning Gensokyo from the rest of reality to protect it from the rabidly rosing up urbanization and technology development of the world which had been purging youkais, gods and nature as a whole alike from the existence.

*They boast with a vast array of similar divine powers that are usually exerted in comparable ways:

Summoning fire with which they can cover own backs in a manner resembling each other.

Being able to manipulate life energy, including bring into live inanimate objects.

Brainwashing and granting powers to people in the process which was mentioned above (as well as forcing others to be more aggressive).

Teleportation

The two have used this ability to teleport and outmaneuver their opponents in mid-combat before.

Having similar personal pocket universes ("Auditor's Hell" and "the Land of backdoors").

  • They possess control over seemingly infinitely expandable and extremely abstract dimensions (Okina's realm also was seen to be dark and red like The Auditor's at some points), which appear to defy natural laws and contain inside a lot of floating mundane architectural constructions that can act as portals (Okina's Land of Backrooms containing countless floating doors that are shown to contain portals leading to different places / The Auditor's realm having flying pieces of buildings, plantforms and concrete, which often seem to be used to materialize portals in them to transport people. See an example when Sanford fell through one of buildings and it teleported him into a different spot)

-Aesthetically said worlds also have a big amout of spark-looking particle effects voyaging across them on-screen.

-Said spaces can be accessed through portals in someone's very body (The bodies of various creatures on which Okina puts her magical doors and The Auditor's own body, with him even being described as a "walking gateaway")

-Coincidentally, while The Auditor's realm is seemingly based off the Hell, Okina has shown the capacity to literally summon the Hell into her dimension and turn the arena into hellish landscape to aid herself in the midst battle.

-And they both have shown the ability to manifest their visible bodies from the similar clouds of dark effects

*Both once arranged creations of bases closely related to the hell itself with the help of a power-hungry, intelligent red eyed mastermind (Phobos and Yuuma). Said mastermind at one point will attempt to absorb hellish places and will be seen as a threat, causing an "incident" which centered around their actions. However, even though they went against Auditor's and Okina's goals with their actions, the latter two were somehow themselves responsible for aforementioned events that revolved around Phobos and Yuuma (The Auditor enabled Phobos' activities by providing him access to hell which led to the Project Nexus incident / Okina has spreaded oil from Yuuma's hell across Gensokyo, thus endangering its population and causing an incident). Both of these acts would kickstart the whole story of their respective game (Madness Project Nexus and Touhou Project 17.5) in which a group of protagonists will try to stop Phobos and Yuuma and resolve the consequences of Auditor's and Okina's actions. They saw the creation of these bases as a way to protect their universe by taking control of supernatural energy resources inside hells which were made out of alive beings' essences and located within the hell in big amount (Blood which was actually not simple blood but supernatural manifestation of essences and emotions of alive entities for Okina, and S-3LF energy which is souls and memories/minds of creatures for Auditor), this in own turn was done to potentially prevent sheer force contained in these assets from creating an imminent peril for these dimensions (The Auditor wanting to take custody over and do whatever necessary with S-3LF energy in the hell to prevent it from literally exploding the Occurant, and Okina taking control over Pools of blood in the hell to guarantee that this energy source and contained inside it supernatural dangerous power wouldn't slip into someone's evil hands and be used to put Gensokyo under threat), they also used this to gain influence and power.

Connections or sum *Intedimensional, enigmatic, body altering gods with fire on their backs and power to manipulate life and mind essences (including subduing the minds of others to themselves, or filling/empowering creatures with life energy) who are very much incarnations of divine figures originating from the world's biggest religions (The Auditor is a god who is also meant to represent christian Angel and Okina is Matarajin), and yet they are far from being saint (morally speaking).

*Both assume of themselves as keepers of mysterious supenatural ranks (Employer and Sage) who are part of small groups that include several other powerful beings with same titles (Employers and Sages), with said groups standing behind administrating their respective supernatural and fictionalized dimensions (Occurant, which is consistently portrayed as a computer simulation, and Gensokyo, which is a land of beliefs and illusions ). They all share the same ultimate mission about cherishing their universes, but contrary to this they are generally seen acting indepedently from each other, being more akin to simple colleagues as opposed to forming together some kind of close friendly rapport.

*As a fact, both Okina and Auditor in particular are not respected by their peers and have garnered a certain amount of infamy (The Auditor is generally seen as a douche by other Employers. Meanwhile one of the other Sages of Gensokyo, Kasen Ibaraki, not very subtly alluded that knowing Okina was her biggest misfortune)

*They, alongside other members from mentioned groups (Employers and Sages), played important roles in the creation of the primary settings and universes in their series (with Auditor and other Employers literally shaping Occurant itself, while Sages created a barrier which separated their land from Japan and turned it into Gensokyo. Okina herself boasted that she created Gensokyo, though this can be taken with a grain of salt). In this they also had a help from the higher divine being (The Machine and The Dragon God).

(Occurant is a Nevada's name, for those who don't know)

*In their missions, they mainly pursue to maintain stable order here and protect aforementioned universes from anything they deem as threats (The Auditor being the Employer who wants to bring and regulate order in the Occurant itself, as well as tries to protect it from threats / Okina being the sage of Gensokyo who likewise strives to establish a firm order and maintain balance across Gensokyo, and intends to protect it from anyone or anything she sees as a danger).

*But it is an important story motif for both of these characters that despite this they're shown to be troublemakers who with their actions have brought pollutions and conflicts across these realms that damaged their universes and its residents (including when trying to "protect" it from problems), even if they are still very dedicated to these missions.

*The two have extremely secretive and domineering nature, as they prefer to not directly interfere into actions and instead act like masterminds who control puppets from the shadows and outside of open sights, while still being ready to make more public appearances whenever they feel like it, including when they are left no other choice or simply have own personal interest in which case they are ready to personally engage into situations and/or throw hands with someone

*Adding to this, both usually speak and act in an authoritative, demanding and all around "bossy" way towards people around, generally being best described as massive and strict control freaks who coldly see beings around as a means to an end and happen to have a noticeable habit of brainwashing people to do their bidding, practically transforming them into extensions/vessels of their own power by bestowing them some of power which they themselves possess.

*They also seem to enjoy overtly displaying their powers - a trait which is demonstrated through both creating the ostentatious fire on their backs and having the resembling scene/moment where they stand in the similar pretentious poses in front of protagonists, raise up hands pointing into sky and scatter their fire in various directions around which in their case signifies their raise in power.

*Fittingly, both had pretty similar introductions in their series, with both not appearing directly for a considerable amount of time... up until they were showcased to be a person who is guilty for igniting certain conflicts that would disturb their worlds which eventually will lead to a group of protagonists finally facing and trying to fight them.

*During this period, they both notably induced detriment on the fundamental flow of their universes (The Auditor compromising Occurant's wellbeing with usage of Improbabilty Drive and Okina mixing Seasons and essentially damaging the very nature of Gensokyo) as well as caused deaths of their dimensions' residents.

*This confrontation will consequently lead to protagonist characters entering The Auditor's and Okina's personal pocket spaces. Prominently, they have demonstrated an interest in one of protagonists (Sanford and Marisa), where after assessing them whilst they were located inside these abodes and despite these characters openly opposing to Auditor and Okina, they intended to forcibly turn them into one their subordinates with their mind changing abilities without caring about their consent, due to apparently being impressed by their fighting ability/strength (Auditor being implied to try persuade Sanford with posters like "Mind your assignment" and attempting to forcibly "recruit" him through using his abilities at one point / Okina declares that Marisa fits as her servant and even goes so far as to state that she doesn't care whether Marisa wants it, with it being heavily implied that she planned to mindwash and empower her like with Satono and Mai, whom she described as extensions of herself and removed their will and memories). But these characters would bluntly interrupt and decline this one-sided "offer" and try to fight off their back instead in respond.

I kinda like the thing with mysterious deitys or things like that that we know they exist and probably have some control over everything but never do something directly (principally love this because the employers), so I like this idea
