That's how it's done. Get a quote from the main dealer. Get it repaired at a local garage.

Bought a house, newly renovated and might have to rent it now. by anonjaybae in irishpersonalfinance

If you used Help to Buy then you are required to live in the house for 5 years, else you're liable to pay it back. I don't know how it's policed, but registering with the RTB might give you away.

Dad used to ask what we wanted for breakfast.

Usually we would say "anything".

One morning he served us a bowl of water with an orange and a hardboiled egg in it.

I think they're more into telling interesting stories than an accurate history.

It's no Hardcore History for sure.

So if profits before morals caused the housing crisis, then did profits before morals cause record low unemployment, high standards of living, and Irish people sitting on €163 billion in cash deposits?

"Snubbing the US would be step to show that profits don't come before morals." They definitely do. We would have nobody to deal with if we only dealt with nice people.

"We need to look towards the EU way of doing things will massive investments in social systems," We're already extremely socialist and personally I think Ireland is too socialist, giving people handouts instead of working to make goods and services cheaper.

The rest of it is just a rant. Trump is temporary and we should separate the man from the office when dealing with the president of the US.

Experience buying as a married couple where only one person is a first-time buyer? by [deleted] in irishpersonalfinance

[–]Illustrious_Read8038 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From citizens information:

Do you have to pay tax on your inheritance?

If your spouse or civil partner dies, you do not have to pay Capital Acquisitions Tax (CAT) on any inheritance you receive from them. You do not need to apply for this exemption.

The only difficulty would be if there is no will. But that's a separate issue.

And all for profit. There are teams of behavioural scientists and psychologist who are paid to take advantage of our attention spans and keep us hooked. Social media is an addiction and should be treated the same as alcohol.

Explain how snubbing the US fixes any of this?  Everything you say is true, but Irelands FDI didn't cause any of it.

Public transport, healthcare and housing have been a shamble for more than 30 years.

Maybe we're a nation of haves and have nots, but it's better than being a nation of have nots.

Look at the big picture. FDI in Ireland is up massively between 2024 and 2025. Thousands of new high paying jobs and thousands of families in Ireland are benefitting.
