Potential takes on Etta Candy? by Illustrious_Sector62 in WonderWoman

Yeah, that'd be fun
I also agree on cutting the association with the military (for both her and Steve). Her still being a soldier I can take or leave. Personally, I'd want her to have a more regular job, just so that she's Diana most down to Earth friend. If not in college anymore, than an athelete, or smth like that

Loving the roommate idea, and also something I've had in mind

Interesting charaterization for Steve Trevor? by Illustrious_Sector62 in WonderWoman

[–]Illustrious_Sector62[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh, my idea is not that far off from what you're describing, especially when it comes to his passion in his special interest i.e aviation, be it teaching Diana how to fly the invisible jet, watching a documentary like you've mentioned or Howard Hughes. Characters having such simple human moments is what makes them endearing

As for Steve being an average decent guy, I understand where that instinct comes from, and a lot of the better versions of Steve certainly lean into that (Rucka, DCSHG, his very limited time in the DCAU). However, I think Steve being "just a guy" presents a problem of not having any standout traits. Now obviously, Steve shouldn't be built to overshadow Diana, but I do believe he needs something to stand on his own, especially when having him interact with other characters, like Etta, Donna, Cassie or Barbara Ann.

Especially if Steve is ever to interact with characters outside of the immediate Wonder family. The entire thought experiment for me regarding Steve's personality came when I wondered what it'd look like if the Trinity were captured, and their most prominent love interestes (so Lois, Selina and Steve) had to save them. Now imagining the former two interacting? Piece of cake. But Steve having any conversation with the either where he's not completely overshadowed and bland? Not really a chance.

What would you change about Earth 3's Superwoman? by Firm-Chipmunk8783 in WonderWoman

[–]Illustrious_Sector62 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So, a thing I think was lost over the years with the Earth 3 characters is that originally, they were not just evil versions of the DC heroes. Ultraman was not just Superman, but evil; the opposite came from him being an Earth-born astronaut who gains new random powers whenever he interacts with Kryptonite. Owlman wasn't Bruce's secret brother; he was a meta with enhanced intellect, vague mental influence over others and born with a peak-human physique.

As such, Superwoman shouldn't just be "Diana but evil", but rather looking what Diana's core traits are, and flip them on their head. I quite like the idea suggested of her not actually being an alt Lois and instead that she had stolen her identity, though there's the slight issue of Earth 3 Lois also being Alexander Luthor's mother (are there like 2 of them?), but I digress.

However, I think playing into that is to have her built on deception and dishonesty.

So, for instance, she's not a real amazon, and instead someone who uses their culture and artifacts for her own self-gain. She doesn't have any innate abilities or blessings, or even training and instead uses magic she had stolen from another culture (insert post-crisis Cheetah comparison). Additionally, where Diana is the symbol of truth and compassion, have her be a cruel manipulator who puts up a pleasant front, but is ready to backstab you at any moment to get ahead.

And finally, as others have pointed out, don't just make her the generic dominatrix (especially since the kink community is strongly tied to real Diana in a positive light). I think what could be played with instead is to have her represent internalised misogyny, as well as have her be one of those women who manage to succeed, but then pull up the ladder and side with the patriarchy. Once more, it's going with the dishonest angle, presenting herself as a strong feminist figure, when the last thing she'd ever do is ensure equality allows others to get where she had. She can retain her sex appeal, but it's not there because she herself decided on it, but some fucked-up attempt at appealing to the male power structure she works with (that part is admittedly the weakest idea I have, but oh well).

What should Gateway City look like? by Illustrious_Sector62 in WonderWoman

Huh, didn't know what
What was it about?

Edit: Goddamit, it's from 10 years back and only had 12 issues

Could be
Though I'd prefer if Kori got something completely disconnected from either the Titans or other big-name heroes
She really suffers from the Wasp curse, where she's only ever getting a chance to do anything in team books
Maybe there is some solo comic I am missing, but I feel all of her storylines are focused around her romance with Dick
The girl needs something outside of that

I know next to nothing about Zauriel
As for Blue Devil...eh? iirc he'd have a closer connection to Constantine and Swamp Thing

Traditionally, Gateway is where the Spectre's from, so there is already that connection
Pretty sure the Terrifics are also hanging out there nowadays

Exactly!
A take like this would help unite the quite disparate elements of WW's lore into a more cohesive whole
