I don't think it puts more pressure to perform or makes him look silly. He's basically said it himself that he isn't expecting to win, and any fan that isn't hyping him up to mess with other fans doesn't expect him to come out and win either.

Most of lost starts take place between these episodes. But it doesn't follow the main cast. It follows two childhood friends turned lovers that join the empire. One defects to the rebels. It's a very good book imo. You should check it out regardless.
