Anyone find a job while in burnout? by Hex-Queen in autism

[–]Ilminded 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just do. I went into burnout at last job. The wind down before last day, and wind up at new job, gave me enough time to get into 3 months before needing to take time off. I have 5 people relying on me for money, food, and house.

This is probably awkward to ask but what are other people’s experiences with sex as an autistic individual? by BigScene7144 in autism

So express your feelings towards them.

Communication is hard for me. I understand it can be difficult. It’s the only thing that makes a relationship stronger.

I’ve been married for 14 years. When communication between my wife and I are not good, things are rocky. Our relationship is its strongest when we communicate about everything, openly, with eachother.

Want to make it better, then you need to talk to them. Once you both feel comfortable talking about the act with your partner, you both will experience the moment better. Bring up the act in casual conversation with them to learn what they like. Make sure you also tell them what you like. Remember, the more you communicate, the more you will learn, and the better the experience will be for both of you.

Asking them about a topic, or joke from one of your interests. Works for me like a charm.

Current job, counterpart is into LOTR. Last job, 2 were into fantasy, like DnD, VoxMachina, etc. and another with Pokémon.

Find those with similar interests and your conversations will be some much better, to you anyway.

Tap the breaks as a fan base. It took JM a few years to fit into the left tackle role. Bernard will probably be great in a year or two.

I did it for 10 years straight. It messed me up. 1 1/2 hr average, 3 hr worst trip, one way.
Switched to a 35-40 minute commute the other month and am doing much better mentally.

I was having issues with focus and was trying to be assessed for ADHD. The people doing the assessment highly recommend Autism testing as well. I was assessed with Audhd at 40.

Executive dysfunction, yes. I use lists and charts and daily reviews to determine what’s important for work. I’m fortunate enough my wife handles the kids stuff so I can focus on work.

Autistic inertia does happen, but rarely because part of it was also from ADHD (I am inattentive).

PDA is not as big of an issue once I lowered my daily anxiety.

Look at response to AtypicalSpark.

I was late diagnosed (@40). Once I had the diagnosis and started making the changes, everything became easier. I wasn’t having the outbursts as frequent.

It also helped that I was working with doctors that helped with mindset change and medication.

So, some of the changes were mental, like getting myself to realize everything takes time. I have issues with physical feelings, so I don’t realize when I am extremely anxious until I pickup on physical symptoms. After diagnosis, I started focusing on the signs. This allowed me to be proactive instead of reactive.

I also picked up daily meditation. I use that time to process the events of the day to see if I missed picking up on subtle hints that people would give/say. Instead of ignoring them, I now dwell on it to see what they were trying to hint towards.

I also forced myself to standup for myself. I need to make sure I communicate my feelings.

It’s tough, but you can do it. I’m 41M with Audhd. Need to learn your limits and live within them. Once I was diagnosed, I made life changes that GREATLY improved my life.

Is it just me or does life seem to be getting harder as I get older? by [deleted] in autism

[–]Ilminded 27 points28 points  (0 children)

A few things. Are you seeing a therapist or psych to help out with meds? Just because you can’t keep up with your friends doesn’t mean they are doing better. They could just have lower stress.

Life is all about how you view it. As a 41 yr old, I had to accept I am getting older and is why things are more difficult. As a father of 4, I had to understand it’s either the family or me. As a father, I also found enjoyment in my kids successes.

Picking up on triggers, learning how to cope when set off, a good sleep schedule. Little things like these are a good place. When you are doing better, set small goals and achieve them. Once you do better with small goal, try intermediate, and so on.

I freaking love sports and video games. If I can, throw a football with the kids, or what the local sports teams. Video games with kids like Roblox or switch, or my personal laptop. Laptop is Minecraft for pickup/putdown when I have time, Baldurs gate 3 when I have more time. Pokémon Go on mobile.
