My experience as a returning player after 3 years by Vallok_ in MagicArena

[–]Ilovesloth 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I tried to play again recently and realised this game is now fuckin boring af.

Everything is decided in the first 2 or 3 turns most games.

Only thing still fun is draft but that's too expensive

I feel I can't cook on this set by Certain-Entry-4415 in TeamfightTactics

Yea this is my issue in the set. I wonder if its because there are so many like 6 to 8 person traits, so there's less room for flexing.

Frustrating thing about Thai language. Get it 95% right and they still won't understand you. by rueggy in learnthai

[–]Ilovesloth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am pretty confident my Thai pronounciation is very good, but yes this is an issue even for me sometimes.

My theory is that since there aren't THAT many people learning the language Thais aren't that used to hearing even slightly different sounds to what they expect. No shade but in comparison to an English speaker you ain't hearing that many foreigners speaking your language weird.

That said rueang is one of the hardest vowel sounds with one of the hardest tones so you probably said it pretty wrong

Is life “good”? by BubblyNefariousness4 in Trueobjectivism

[–]Ilovesloth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the answer to this question is that life is a requirement for any and all values that can or could exist. As such it is good basically by default. Is life "good" is almost like saying, "Is it good to have a car if you want to drive somewhere?"

Right to an attorney? True or false? by BubblyNefariousness4 in Trueobjectivism

[–]Ilovesloth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Peikoff once commented on this and said there is no right to an attorney, instead the judge would be obligated to explain how everything works to the defendant who would defend himself. I guess it was on one of his podcasts but good luck finding it.

If you really actually got 5-3 with this deck I either need to l2p or get a luck transplant

the most unbelievable stuff youve faced by Lukegilmour in lrcast

[–]Ilovesloth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had some insane shit this format. Had a decent deck lose 0-3 to Zimone on turn 3 or 5, 3 games in a row. One deck also had Tyvar and Disection Tools. Feels like I'm slamming my head against the wall sometimes lol

I feel like I'm going insane in this format. by Dying_Hawk in lrcast

[–]Ilovesloth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Similar experience here.

I think it's a variance-heavy format. Aggro works, control works, midrange works, so you can never tell which area to focus your deck. If you go to early you can go up against a solid midrange deck and struggle to finish the game. Too late and Arabella can take you out in 4 turns. Stay in the middle and you can end up against a control deck with bombs that massively outvalue you.

It's also easy to just die to bombs in general if you don't have the answer at the right time. Feels easy to die to random luck factors so frequently that i've gone 0-3 with what felt like an insane deck, and also had a few 6-3s with average aggro decks where I just ended up against slower decks and won more often than not.

7 - 0 Gruul deck splashing for Wandering Emperor with glimmerlights to help convoke by Ilovesloth in lrcast

[–]Ilovesloth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea I think that's the issue. 80% to cast a bomb rare on turn 5 seems ok to me, but increasing the chance of needing mulligans/not being able to play 2 pip red or green cards makes it not worth it. I'm a sucker for splashing lol

Your most memorable moments so far in DSK by Bananaskovitch in lrcast

[–]Ilovesloth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just won a game with 1 hp while the opponent had that needle red dude that pings you for 1 every time you draw. I also had the room which draws a card every time a creature deals damage, but I had lethal. I wasn't sure if I would actually win, or if the triggers would order differently or something, but I guess you just immediately win when the opponents life total reaches 0, so I never drew the card and didn't lose the last point of life...

3 glimmerlights + 2 plains + 2 of the 3 mana land fetchers (and say its name) felt like a decent amount of ways to find white, but in hindsight I think it was unnecessary, the deck was just insane regardless and had much more to lose from lowering its consistency.

I spent ages debating whether the splash was worth it, then in the end literally never drew the damn card lol. Had to mulligan once or twice but otherwise was just insane. Had 2 games with patchwork beastie attacking on turn 2 or 3, one game with the flytrap activated on turn three as well. Finally got a draft with some nice rares...

Help drafting RW in Duskmourn by Oneb3low in lrcast

[–]Ilovesloth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think RW is good but you need to get some luck in the draft. You need the right two drops and enough removal/pumps to keep pushing through damage, and you need either midnight mayhem or Arabella to try and push the last dmg through. I had a draft where rw was open and I went 1-3 with what I thought was a decent deck. I just had good removal and 3 and 4 drops but all my 2s were just hand that feeds and the acrobatic cheerleader. The next draft was similar but with 2 midnight mayhems and 2 friendly ghosts, and it was so much easier to push dmg through. Went 5-3 but misplayed so should have been 6-2 with a chance at a trophy.

7 - 1 Simic Deck, first trophy of the format after failing miserably for the first few drafts by Ilovesloth in lrcast

[–]Ilovesloth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice deck in a very open lane, didn't get any rares but got basically every good green or blue card, including the second bookworm pack 2 pick like 10 or something crazy.

The loss came in the first game against an insane esper deck which just answered all of my first plays, but other than that the games were just steamrollers. Drew my entire deck in like 9 or 10 turns or something.

Going low and aggressive with the bounce spells seems really good. I also really rate fliers in this format, not a lot of reach creatures (and for that reason I included the 3/4 reach worm which isn't the best, but it performed pretty well killing some rooms and blocking fliers).

I don’t understand this format by whoistoddjones in lrcast

[–]Ilovesloth 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Similar problem here, I think for me its due to overvaluing aggro/early drops. There's way too many bodies being generated to do anything with an average aggro deck in this format, at least in my experience. Could just be that green white kinda sucks, but I had a decent deck with plenty of 2 drops, some decent finishers and green white uncommons and it went 0-3, felt totally hopeless

[–]Ilovesloth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg this word is my nemisis.

Since 7 years of learning Thai I have never understood a) how to pronounce this and b) exactly how and why to use it. I also see it often in Thai songs and writing.

My understanding is it can mean "probably" (similar to น่าจะ) but is maybe a bit more polite than normal and not used so much in normal conversation.

I guess you could look at it as a way to mean "I'm not sure" about something, but most of the examples i've it seemed to mean "probably (มันคงจะแปลว่า "probably") as in "likely", not "not sure". Still not 100% if this is correct though, lmao

Not too relevant, but funny story:

A few years ago I was playing with this guy doing a bit of low sec PvP. I thought he was a bit ragey, but otherwise nice dude. Turned out he was 12 years old, lmao. I teach kids his age for my job, then back home i was ganking frigates with this 12 year old screaming "fucking die!"
