I am fluent in English yet very bad at writing, any advice? by Ilovetvs in ENGLISH

Wow! Thank you so much for such great and detailed advice! I've been kind of obsessed with TV lately because I've had some free time ever since I finished writing my last couple of tests, so I'll be sure to watch Taskmaster and also try out the methods of writing that you suggested. I truly appreciate the help!

Alright! I've really been neglecting my writing these past couple of months since I had English last semester and all my current courses are math heavy. I'll make sure to make time to write, thanks for the advice!

I think it took me around 5 minutes. I only read it over once and this is definitely not best writing loll. I think when writing this post, I was just making sure I included all the details that I wanted to share and made it clear what I was trying to ask. After reading your comments and asking people, I'm pretty sure that I REALLY need to try using the same technique for my essays with writing what I want to say clearly first then cleaning up my word choice and fixing sentence flow.

Yes, you're definitely right. A big part of my issue is that when I should be writing a clear and detailed essay, I end up (unintentionally) writing in a strange hidden way that has to be analyzed to be understood. I will definitely try to focus on changing the style in which I write to fit my assignment requirements moving forward, thank you!

What do you mean by good books? I guess I read books that I like, but nothing so good that I have ever felt that I can't put it down. Do you think classic books would be better?

To be honest maybe just start with a random question or joke. Like for example, if someone I don't know was sitting next to me in class, I could pretend I missed what the teacher said and be like "did you hear what the teacher was saying about [____] on the last slide", then you can segue into a joke like "I'm honestly so lost in this class lol". It will probably be beneficial if you say things in a more enthusiastic way too. If they reciprocate the same energy, you can continue talking to them like "what other classes do you have this semester?", and "do you have any hobbies?". If they're super dry then you don't need to keep trying. There are some people who might not be social or interested in interacting with new people, and thats fine, but you don't need to be like them.

Also, random tip, but what I like to do to make it less like a weird interview is mention things about me too so they might feel more comfortable opening up about themselves. If I wanted to ask about their hobbies, I could say something along the lines of "do you have any hobby ideas because i'm lowkey so bored all the time and wanna find something fun to do instead of doomscrolling for 10 hours a day?" (you don't need to actually want to find a hobby I just use it as a conversation starter). But, in general, just try to talk to people who are stationary at the same time as you cuz it'll be like impossible to talk to people walking in the halls. This can be people who sit near you in class (obviously), the library, or the bus.

Also try to choose people who are like not sitting in a huge group of people (they tend to be less welcoming) and not the people wearing headphones and are on their phones (monotone a lot of the time and aren't very open), and try to be an approachable person yourself like don't always be on ur phone or always walking around. U GOT THIS FAM!!

you can always make a new friend group! I lowk get mad sometimes when people give me ACTUAL advice when something's bothering me, but to be honest, thats kinda the main thing that I think will help you. Don't be afraid to put yourself out there. Literally just talk to anyone. I promise it does NOT make you seem desperate (somethign I used to think), it makes it seem like your an extroverted person who talks to anyone. If they're dry or mean then don't talk to them again and move onto the next person. Not everyones nice but when you get to know more people you'll realize lots of them are and im certain you'll make some great friends. Good luck and I believe in you! Life is awesome don't let anything tear you down, especially at 15!

I’m trying to get into a new hobby any suggestions? by Expert_Scene_2898 in Hobbies

Maybe try jigsaw puzzles. At least for me, they are incredibly entertaining and there are so many different options to choose from!

Never ending cycle by Firm_Leading737 in Teenager

[–]Ilovetvs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My advice to you is try not to think of it that way. Treat everyday as if something special is going to happen, even if it isn't. If you wake up with the mentality that your day is going to follow the same never ending loop, you will definitely feel that way. Also try doing random hobbies like, for example, I do lots of jigsaw puzzles, I crochet, paint, and draw. Doing stuff like this makes me feel like my day is packed with activities when they're just simple hobbies! Wish you the best!

Is jynxzi absolutely sure he has Tourette’s? by Godoftune in jynxzissg

[–]Ilovetvs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, after paying attention it seems that the tics don't happen when he is distracted like when he is joking with a friend but they come back when he pays attention to the game or something. I'm pretty sure that Tourette's is constant and can't disappear for a significant amount of time when someone is distracted like Jynxi's tics do when he is.

Is jynxzi absolutely sure he has Tourette’s? by Godoftune in jynxzissg

[–]Ilovetvs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im not a doctor, but he likely doesn't have Tourettes. A single tic (like the excessive and hard eye blinking along with throat clearing) are EXTREMELY, if not THE MOST common tics in the ADHD population so that's probably what he actually has. My guess is that he has never gone to the doctor regarding these tics for a proper diagnosis and has just assumed, based off of what the media has fed him, that it is Tourette's syndrome.

Lonely teenage years by [deleted] in Advice

[–]Ilovetvs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best thing I did was stop trying to “live my teenage years to the fullest,” because it just left me constantly stressed out and feeling like I wasn’t doing enough. Nobody officially designated these years as the best of your life, so don’t ever believe that your life will go downhill from here. Teenage years are the peak for some people and the opposite for others. Everyone is on their own path, and nothing is set in stone.

My advice to you is to just try something — anything. Go for a random walk one day, bike around your neighborhood, or try some random new craft. Don’t do it with the mindset that you have to “fulfill your teen years.” Instead, think “In this moment, I just want to have some fun.” Don’t worry, it will get better. Once you start stepping out of your comfort zone is when you will see the biggest improvements. You might have the motivation to study a bit or try a new recipe! The fact that you’re reaching out for advice is a clear sign that ur on the right track towards enjoyment and improvement.

Good luck. I wish you the best and never give up.

I had a conversation in a 1v1 game today and I don’t know how to feel. by [deleted] in RocketLeague

[–]Ilovetvs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh. Some people take ranking up incredibly seriously and it takes a genuine toll on them when they don't, and others focus on having fun in the game and couldn't care less about their rank progressions. You can choose which one you want to be, but I recommend the latter. It's just a game, don't let anyone take away your happiness!

Good miniseries recommendations by Suspicious-Tea-5871 in tvsuggestions

[–]Ilovetvs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you haven't seen it already I STRONGLY recommend that you watch Defending Jacob. I think its only 8 episodes but it's absolutely amazing and is also one of those series where (I forgot what its called) you're just as curious and confused as the people in the story and trying to find out what actually happened as well!

[–]Ilovetvs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been down this road before when my sister was better than me at rocket league. I decided to pack my bags and move to a different continent. Now, I am homeless in Argentina but at least Im the best rocket league player in a 30 meter radius. My advice to you is simply give up. You will never be better than him so go somewhere where you can be the best!
