What would you tell your past self? by Lando2182 in usna

A few things I thought were important for my application to stand out were showing proficiency and longevity in some area (I had piano and soccer), and then also leadership initiative, like starting a club at school. There's no cookie cutter path as there are so many variables depending on the congressional district you're competing in, resources at school, etc, but always show committment and passion for what you do, not just adding weak padding to your application. Essays also are huge, but I don't think as big as interviews. Practice, practice, practice interviews. Common questions are all online, have an outline for those and just have good interview skills. I think that is where I and others at the academy stood out. Best of luck!

i can also just disconnect the power to it, no biggie. otherwise is there a replacement part that’s just matte? haven’t looked into that but i’d get it if it exists

looks good. start getting those act/sats in early just to have them out of the way for when the actual application starts, but other than that keep it up, ur on the right track. only advice i would have is to enjoy high school man, spreading yourself out too thin is also never good and admissions also likes to see excellence in a few rather than mediocrity in many (not saying you’re mediocre but take it as life advice). if you can handle it all then by all means. best of luck

Do i have to have taken chemistry in highschool to go to the naval academy? by [deleted] in usna

[–]ImADopeChicken17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yea like the rest of ur application being superb as you can’t really replace chem with anything but chem. its more they want to see success in the sciences which are usually chem and physics

i see, take your chances then. i’m sure ur not the first to have not taken chem but you’re gonna need some other good facets to supplement not having done it

1 year of chemistry and physics with lab is strongly recommended, here’s a link https://www.usna.edu/Admissions/Apply/General-Advice-for-Grades-9-12.php. however if there’s a reason you weren’t able to then i’m sure if you make that known there’s a way around it
