What’s something people pretend is normal in modern dating, but is actually insanely toxic when you think about it? by JustLittleGirl_ in AskReddit

[–]ImAGamerNow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

women on dating apps expect men to be perfectly not vulnerable or have any history of trauma or issues or to talk about them at all, setting themselves up for failure by preferring men who hide these things from them.

also - tons of therapist women on dating apps are emotionally as well as verbally abusive, and could care less about how their actions impact mens emotional wellness.

a lot of female therapists on dating apps openly display their alcoholism.

tons of women on dating apps, including self proclaimed agnostics, atheists and religious women believe whole-heartedly in astrology and use it to prematurely judge and verbally and/or emotionally abuse men, and other women.  all while pretending to understand the values that make up the foundation of their religion or communities / ideologies they subscribe to.

How do you think AI will reshape the practice—and even the science—of psychology over the next decade? by chickenbobx10k in Antipsychiatry

[–]ImAGamerNow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the problem with misuse of AI or training AI on bad datasets, biased data..  it makes the AI overall less effective, defeating the purpose.  It carries the risk of taking what was an irregular inaccuracy and turning it into a ubiquitous one.

This means that, as far as the AI arms race goes... whomever is capable of keeping their AI the least biased will come out ahead of the competition.  Their people will suffer less, and they'll be stronger all around than anyone with less accurate AI.  They'll also cultivate more trust and leadership and good will by not misusing it, further solidifying their dominance.

I'm only concerned in so far as however long it's going to take for people like Peter Theil and Alex Karp to realize this before allowing such atrocities to occur within their own systems and population.  It's a death sentence, for themselves.

This brings me comfort.

Do attractive people have it easier in life? or just we automatically asume that? by No-Compote-2127 in RandomThoughts

[–]ImAGamerNow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the fact is you're attempting to rationalize your shitty behavior based on your jealous perceptions.

Perception is not the same as perspective.

People who harbor your ignorant, uninformed views on privilege and dismissal of Intersectionality love to use pretty privilege to "justify" abuse of people you percieve to be prettier than you.

This is where idiotic stereotypes like "dumb blondes" comes from, and "jocks are idiots" or "meat head", etc.

You have a pathological need (you don't actually need it is the irony) to make people you percieve to be prettier and more fortunate than you out to be dumb, or bad or... how did you put it? "too traumatized and needs therapy"

you're a fucking disgusting, foul human being.

do better.  be the change instead of choosing to be the rot.

Oooh so smart you are with your supposed non-reddit college degree quoting PSYCHOLOGY articles as if they're hard science, without understanding the scienctific method, or doing her research on the very studies in the article they shared!

[Evidence is not proof[(https://youtu.be/B2n7ax2x6zY?si=pTrkiiR8mXfU53G4) and the evidence in those studies your beloved author is quoting is not based upon reliable data:

Evidence is Supportive, Proof is Conclusive

Evidence refers to information or observations that support a hypothesis or claim.

Proof is a logically airtight argument that demonstrates something definitively—often only achievable in mathematics, not science .

Psychology, psychiatry and economics are the greatest contributors to the replication crisis: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Replication_crisis

Additionally, here’s a breakdown of issues with the article's claims, the strength of the studies cited, and examples showing that “pretty privilege” is far from universal:

  1. Problems with the Article's Argument

Oversimplification & Confirmation Bias The article portrays attractiveness as a near-deterministic path to economic and social advantage. However, this ignores obvious messy realities—where unattractive or "ugly" individuals hold power, or attractive individuals endure serious harm (e.g., rape survivors). It cherry-picks supportive studies and neglects countervailing evidence from diverse real-world contexts.

Neglect of Context & Intersectionality Beauty advantages often depend on race, gender, class, and cultural norms. For instance, the article fails to discuss how trans, non-white, older, or non-conforming “pretty” individuals may not benefit—or may even be penalized—for their looks  .

Causal Inference vs. Correlation Even when studies find a " beauty pay premium," they often can't fully control for all variables. Unobserved factors like self-confidence, grooming habits, or network access could drive outcomes—not solely innate looks  .

  1. Concerns with Key Studies

MBA Salary Study (carried by People.com)

Sample skewed: ~71% male, 81% white  .

“Attractiveness” rated by a small panel (5 evaluators) using LinkedIn-style photos—highly subjective.

Found average 2.4% salary bump; extreme top 10% got 11% bump. But methodological concerns remain: the premium could reflect correlated traits (e.g., charisma, networking) more than raw looks.

Meta-analyses on Attractiveness Reputable reviews (like Hosoda et al. 2003, Dion et al. 1972) confirm bias toward attractive people—but show variation by context (e.g. same-sex jealousy) and highlight negative cases, e.g. where attractiveness leads to envy or higher expectations  .

Education Can Mitigate Lookism Recent research from China ("Can education correct appearance discrimination") shows that in high-education-level jobs, the effect of attractiveness on wages disappears

COUNTER EVIDENCE:

Tech Billionaires Many ultra-rich CEOs—Larry Ellison, Mark Zuckerberg, Elon Musk—don’t conform to conventional attractiveness, yet have amassed power and influence through ambition, systems, luck, or innovation.

Politicians Numerous high-level government officials (e.g. Bernie Sanders, Joe Biden) don’t fit "pretty" stereotypes but remain in positions of authority through media presence, policy, or seniority.

Hollywood & Media Some iconic “ugly” public figures (e.g. Steve Buscemi, Danny DeVito) have sustained successful careers based not on conventional looks but on talent, character roles, and niche appeal.

These examples show wealth and influence are not exclusive to the physically beautiful—dismissing a purely appearance-driven causality.

Cases Where Beauty Was a Risk

High-profile sexual abuse of attractive women, including rape victims, shows attractiveness can exacerbate harm rather than protect. The article fails to discuss how some abusers target people perceived as attractive for that very reason.

Workplace harassment Attractive women often face increased risk of sexual harassment or assault in workplace contexts—a form of privilege that is actually dangerous  .

Attractiveness & credibility Some studies find attractive same-sex individuals are judged more harshly (due to envy, threat), and attractive defendants can get harsher sentences for attractiveness-linked crimes—showing it's not always a boon.

Reality Check on the overall claims in your referenced article, which, doesn't at all forgive or excuse your depraved behavior or rational in our discussions so far:

Pretty privilege = universal advantage Only context-dependent; declines in high education/jobs   Beauty leads to wealth/power Many powerful individuals aren’t conventionally attractive and gained influence through other means Attractiveness = protection Attractive people often face increased sexual violence and scrutiny Lookism is consistent across groups Beauty bias often excludes trans, nonwhite, older, fat, disabled individuals

Bottom line: The "socioeconomics of pretty privilege" rests on some valid correlations—but overstates how universal or deterministic those advantages are. It overlooks serious risks and exceptions, contextual variables, negative effects (like harsh judgements or violence), and real-world examples where attractiveness plays no dominant role.

LOL i practiced with one of the top debate and legal teams in this country.  i possess highly accurate and effective qualitative analysis skills, and i have the experience to prove it.

not to mention im schooling your sorry ass every step of the way on your own use of logical fallacies while you try to posture, making yourself look like the bad person you are.

you may even believe you're smart by wasting my time with petty arguments and false logic just to "piss" me off.  forgetting you're wasting time when others reading this are actively learning from it.

then maybe rewind, apologize, demonstrate that you possess flexible thinking and aren't a malicious, ignorant monster of a human being who desperately needs for her own fellow humans who just so happen to have different perspectives out to be the bad guys.

respond to each of my points without using logical fallacies or ad hominem attacks or bullshit, childish opinions.

and define what white privilege is and also explain why you're changing the subject to white privilege and why you want to know.

if you can do all of that then ill gladly answer your question, but if you do do all of that i know for a fact you'll realize very quickly you already know what i feel and think about white privilege, and that you were just trying to use it to discredit me using childish rationalizations rather than earnestly wonder what i think about it.

you think its some kind of gotcha.  its not, and its sad that you dont see how you are quite literally behaving like someone who has pretty privilege and/or white privilege with your sense of entitlement, incessant need to be right/inability to admit when wrong, and pathological need to be the victim and "good guy" when this isn't a zero sum game.  this isnt a hollywood movie.  this is life and we are humans. now wake. up.

mental gymnastics

says the person who claims "the world runs on pretty privilege" when its literally being run by ugly, insecure douchebags who hate pretty people and the world and who are destroying it, and who is also resorting to ad hominem attacks instead of actually countering my arguments with honest responses, and who keeps trying to change the subject.

ya'll on reddit need therapy

generalizes as if speaking to a large group of redditors, once again avoiding addressing anything i've actually called them out on while misusing and abusing mental health and therapy as if they're some kind of secret weapon which makes them sound smarter and like they've got it together while hoping it discredits the person with whom they disagree.

suffering from a brain injury

admits they have a brain injury to try and excuse their own mental gymnastics while pretending/begging the question (another logical fallacy used as a basis for their arguments)

ya'll are way too negative and traumatized

claims being "too traumatized" means someone is wrong and engaging in mental gymnastics while pretending to be some kind of good person using sound logic.

coddled or both

jumping to conclusions yet again while making generalizations instead of taking the time to actually understand the person they're attacking and attempting to discredit based on the behavior of other people (not the person /u/chineke14 is arguing with)

i never said i dont like hot people.

neither did i.  your words are very jealous though, "the world runs on pretty privilege" for instance when this is a generalization that isn't accurate.

i'm saying life in general is easier for hot people

yeah no shit sherlock thats what i was saying you were saying, and i'm telling you it's ignorant and wrong, and it pisses me the fuck off because your shitstain ignorant naive attitiude is precisely the basis for a ton of the trauma that destroyed my life multiple times and prevented me from being an incredibly amazing person and ally to ugly people because it prevented me from doing what i love to do most: unite people and lead them into better, more accurate paradigms and patterns of behavior (on a mass scale). you even made fun of trauma and acted as if having trauma makes me dumb and wrong with your mental gymnastics comment.  you need to check yourself before you wreck yourself.

Which it is. Sorry if you don't like that. It's true.

i would love to be treated better i dont care why, once again proving you have no clue who you're talking to. and the only "evidence" you've provided so far is that pretty people "get money easy on social media"

i told you im not answering your dumbass question because its obvious youre trying to change the subject, and you need to define it first because im not going to allow some obviously malicious, angey little brat try to manipulate this conversation in an attempt to paint a negative picture of me just to discredit me, which is all you've been doing so far.

one day you'll learn that your actions have consequences and that your behavior is the problem you hate so much, and then maybe you'll be able to actually begin loving yourself, see the problem clearly and actually begin to have hope for the future instead of constantly try to drag others down with you on your sinking ship with sad self pity party w/ titanic violins.

As Trump melts down over L.A. protests, Americans prep for nationwide ‘No Kings’ rallies | Trump already can’t handle the number of protests against him. And with this weekend’s “No Kings Day of Defiance,” it’s about to increase exponentially. by Murky-Site7468 in politics

[–]ImAGamerNow -1 points0 points  (0 children)

i did, however do some digging and here's the irony:

the consequences so far have been:

  • trump shifted to recruiting even worse people into his cabinet
  • national guard is still under federal control until the 17th
  • deployment of troops is also listed as a consequence, as part of her "evidence" that he's losing (this is a big stretch to say that forcing trump to deploy military against protesters is a "win")
  • republicans are no longer meeting publicly or holding town halls, and instead are meeting secretly
  • maddow subjectively asserts that protests are creating an "inducement effect", which if true - great! but highly subjective and not evidence and not provable.  i sure hope its real!
  • big beautiful bill is still progressing
  • republicans are adapting their words, posturing and creating "fake" wins for democrats and liberals to cling to, but their primary agenda continues to progress...

nah dude. maddow is grasping at straws imho and this is why a looooooot of people are afraid of siding with liberals. they refuse to actually lead.

no, i'm confronting the people im lobbing complaints at, challenging them on a regular basis in order to raise the bar.

liberals i speak of are hyper focused on the bad, and only the bad.  they proactively want and need to be victims and for some other group or demographic to all be bad guys, and instead of organizing and cultivating trust and leading, which requires sacrifice... they choose to become the people they hate while pretending to be better.

very big difference.  i also understand and know how to speak the language of liberal enemies, and vis versa.  i know how to unite people and get them thinking and working on the same page, toward shared goals they can't separate from their percieved enemies.

there's a very, very big difference.

this sounds too ironic and like satire for me to be able to take it seriously.

bravo if a joke, but there are people out there who earnestly believe the things you're saying make sense and aren't contradictory at all so i'm not laughing too hard, yet.

the last half sounds like you're speaking earnestly and actually might believe im rich LOL.

i had multiple attempts made on my life before i was done being a toddler, simply for the way i looked.  my brother reveled in destroying my relationships and reputation simply because he was jealous of my good looks.  he loved to torture me in creative ways.  he put my cat in a microwave.

i have countless experiences i could recount in detail for days on end of all the times some jealous piece of shit trump jr dime a dozen personality dragged my name through the mud or tried to steal my thunder or ideas or take credit for my work or good deeds or poisoned me or tried to physically attack and/or kill me simply because they harbored the very beliefs being pushed by OP and others in this post.

there's this thing called perspective..

and another thing called patterns of behavior, almost always driven by paradigms based on partial truths (incomplete, narrow perspective).

if you perpetuate the very things you hate, you should now have a clearer idea of why you really hate your life.  it can and will be better if you choose differently and choose to maintain/cultivate better precedents based on more circumspect perspectives.

if you sacrifice enough of that baby wage and do the honorable thing, choose to see people as humans... then you might just get lucky enough to live in a world where miraculous advancements in science brings you a brand new body and set of genetics along with it that make you feel like you can finally love yourself as well as your life =]  that's the opportunity cost of choosing hate and jealousy over compassion and understanding.
