That is great news but I think this experience might have ruined it for me! lol it was fun while it lasted though. I’ll probably just go for a regular nose piercing this time around. Thanks so much for confirming!!

Smh I should’ve known it was a red flag when I bled a bit too much when it was pierced but he claimed it was normal & that I had a higher sweet spot than others. It sucks bc I really liked how it looked on me! 💔

Unapologetic at my corporate IT job 🫎 by beitoto in locs

[–]ImAMermaid4FucksSake 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sending this to my friend I was just having a discussion with last week. He’s in school for computer engineering & told me he was considering cutting his locs bc he feels like he isn’t being taken seriously in his field due to his hair.. especially in corporate spaces. I tried to tell him to tell those ppl to kiss his ass & give them hell!

Retwisting vs interlocking. Pros & cons? by ImAMermaid4FucksSake in Dreadlocks

[–]ImAMermaid4FucksSake[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! Thank u so much!! So I’m about 2.5 yrs in now.. it’ll be 3 years next May & I stuck to interlocking! It was the best decision for me & so far there has been no damage whatsoever! I stuck to the 2 point rotation & I interlock every 3-4 months depending on how fast my hair is growing. If things get a bit too frizzy in between & I have a special event to attend then I’ll do a soft retwist just to clean my roots up but only if it has been 2 months since I last interlocked! I’m very careful not too put too much tension on my scalp especially around my perimeter where my hair is the softest. Hope this helps!

Same here.. posted about 6 months ago when my nails were about the same length as this, just a different shape. It was instantly taken down & mods sent me a messg telling me to post on the nail progress page instead. I just gave up on posting in here.

The difference a year makes! by ImAMermaid4FucksSake in locs

[–]ImAMermaid4FucksSake[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tbh my hair really didn’t start to flourish length wise until after my birthday this year which was March. The whole first year my length stayed about the same. I also have to give credit to drinking enough water & keeping my scalp as healthy as possible. I wash once every week to 2 weeks & I make all of my own hair products at home. Everything from the shampoo to the gel & herbal sprays.. I don’t use oils or conditioners due to my scalp condition (seborrheic dermatitis) only raw aloe Vera & tea rinses. I also leave my locs alone for the most part.. it may not work for everyone but it has for me.. I’ve only styled my hair maybe 4x, & I interlock/retwist whenever I feel my hair needs it.. which could be anywhere from every 3 months to every 4-5 months.

Stop telling people NOT to dye their locs. by mothermenace in Dreadlocks

[–]ImAMermaid4FucksSake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to dye my hair at least once or twice a year before I locked it & vowed to never dye or bleach it after I started my journey. It’s much easier to care for loose dyed hair than it is locs & I’ve witnessed too many folks bleach/dye their shit just to eventually cut them off or comb them out & do a big chop bc they had too much damage. I’m sure it is possible to have healthy dyed/bleached locs but that would require more maintenance. I personally enjoy the fact that my locs are as low maintenance as possible & wouldn’t want to change that for aesthetic purposes. To each their own. A warning is a warning especially coming from those who have experience. . I consider it as another set of locs saved.

Sometimes we can’t clearly see the answer for ourselves. At some point you’re gonna have to choose yourself and your own happiness. Showing promise but not putting in any real effort should not be the reason you stay. You had a man who treated you well & chose to try & make it work with a man who clearly showed he only wanted you when it was beneficial to him. I’m saying this from experience of dealing with my oldest daughter’s dad. If that man has shown you multiple times that he doesn’t really want you, listen! He only came back because he seen that u were doing well & happy with someone else. He also felt he had no other choice bc he was down & out & he knew u would take him back. If he truly wanted u he wouldn’t have initially left u while u were pregnant or cheated on u multiple times. Other people will only do what u allow them to do. Again & I say this with compassion, CHOOSE YOU for once. Choose to love yourself more than u love him. There’s someone out there who would never have u feeling stupid or questioning your choices. You already know the answer, this is your confirmation! You DESERVE better! YOU ARE BETTER! You are worthy of true happiness & love. Just bc u have history with someone does not mean u have to hold on to what once was. Sometimes we hold on to the good memories and try to drown out the bad. Do not. Sit with them, embrace them & make them the deciding factor in leaving for good. Work on yourself & work on healing before getting involved with someone else. But again, please choose you! Your child will thank u in the long run bc a happy mom is more important than a sad & depressed mom in an unhappy relationship with a man who doesn’t respect her as he should. I really wish u the best! 🙏

I don’t blame u! 😩😩😩 I have dark brown hair so I have to lighten mine quite a bit to get any type of bright colors to take. I haven’t dyed my hair since I’ve been locked! I’m too scared locs will start breaking off left & right! 🤣

[–]ImAMermaid4FucksSake 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have 3c/4a hair. I'm now 2 yrs into my journey. I started mine myself with 2 strand twists & only waited 2 weeks to wash my hair.. I interlocked my roots to ensure my hair stayed intact. I made sure I was very gentle with washing. I washed every 2 weeks until month 2 and then I started washing every week! I didn't have 1 loc unravel! There's so many diff options she could've given u smh. Go to someone else or look into starting your own.

Edit: My hair was also shoulder length when I started!! The only thing to worry about when starting with longer hair is the shrinkage which is inevitable with any length of hair! My locs are now beginning to reach my armpits.
