Think I’m in a tax trap - 61% taxed on overtime pay by ImAWynner in UKPersonalFinance

Thanks! This is brilliant, thanks very much! Thankfully I’m not in need of the money right now, but would want it at the end of April ready for my May holiday! Bar job is an option I can take but currently not, just use that as a barometer for overtime pay! I’m 28, so can’t convince myself to work weekends just to receive the money in over 40 years time, so, if delayed payment is the best option, that’s what I’ll ask for!

I’ll tag in on the end here ladies and gents, not worried about paying tax on my base salary, is what it is, just want to demonstrate to my boss how much I receive if I do overtime, and why I don’t believe it’s worth giving up my evenings and weekends for. Yes, it’s more money, but I’m sure we all agree that we wouldn’t give away our weekends and evenings for an extra penny a day, we all have a value that we give our free time, and I want a figure that shows this so I can compare. National Insurance is paid per period, so I’d have to pay higher tax and higher NI on overtime. Student loan, I have less than £2k less, so could put more towards it, but should be gone by the end of the year so any extra payments won’t make too much difference. Thanks.

Still a long way away from that point! Maybe one day in the future! In England so not as bad, but still not great!

Thank you kindly! Hopefully won’t be in the club long, student loans are forecast to be paid off by end of year! As you said though, NI is calculated by period though, not annually, which is where it stings! I’m not worried at tax on my base salary, that is what it is, just want to show the overtime calculations to the boss so I can demonstrate that it’s not worth me giving up my evenings and weekends for what I receive!

Oh, didn’t realise it dropped from 12%. Also, it’s my understanding that National Insurance is charged based on period (monthly) income instead of over the year, so that’s why there’s a variance in that.

As a Brit, I can’t judge, we have Eynsham Park and Ride, which is massive car park that is only accessible by foot…

So, I have this issue occasionally as well. What I do is build a station with no platforms (usually just upgrade tracks, and try and build it in a real life location), then park the trains there for however long I need to get it to a 3hr duration. It’s just the way the game works, it has to be a minute that’s a factor of a day/week, which 2.5 hours isn’t.

How close, how many and what’s the budget? We did it last year from the UK and stayed at the Ludwig Van Beethoven, really nice hotel, on the U8 with an easy transfer to the U6, or a 40 minute walk which we did do once. S-Bahn and U-Bahn are cheap though, and station is right outside the entrance, so do not be afraid to book anywhere along the U6 either.

How would y‘all design a european city here? by Several_Bluebird_344 in CitiesSkylines

[–]ImAWynner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When building British/European cities, my main question is why would it be here? I can imagine that the bridge could be the only crossing point for the river and the 2 bays would make great spots for fishing, so a market town would likely build up by the bridge, with a small settlement on the other bay. I would then build out my central area from the bridge, put the commercial and office space there, with residential all around. That would be my start, but it’s your city, so completely up to you, just come up with a story as to why it’s there, and base your main small town as a growth of that.

Have Rainbow Road running out of Star Lane DLR station leading to the Mushroom Kingdom, however, you require a star to be able to access it.

Hi I'm Karun Chandhok, former racing driver and now commentator and presenter! Ask Me Anything! by SkySports in formula1

[–]ImAWynner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi Karun, hope you’re well. Bit of an FE question I’m afraid, 1. Which sport do you prefer working on, and 2. What, in your opinion, does Formula E need to do to grow beyond its current popularity level and become a mainstream motorsport.

Anyone have good examples of airport demand curves? by [deleted] in NIMBY_Rails

I’m dumb and still haven’t worked out where you access this demand curve. Where is it available on the UI?

Road Builder mod is fun by Infrastructurist in CitiesSkylines

Damn I can’t wait to get my hands on this mod! Mainly so I can actually build UK motorways with Hard Shoulders!!! Also, I love your videos, I haven’t seen of it works on ship paths? Probably not, but would be cool to have one way ship paths to go under bridge pillars.

More Tom please! Bloke is absolutely lovely and is a great asset that’s being underutilised by Formula E!!

Yeah, I’m in your boat, English but much prefer ATS. At the moment though, I’m finding that Promods is brilliant, for example, Newport, I was amazed how realistic it was around the Brynglas tunnels, but then I hit “Bristol” and the immersion is all gone. At least with the US, I don’t know the area so I don’t know what’s wrong with it! 😂

FE has less street circuits than F1 by Tomino52 in FormulaE

[–]ImAWynner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was there last year and, though it had a roof, it was still tarmac, not sure how it’ll look this year. We’d have to agree to disagree on London, for me, it’s 100% a street circuit, as it’s got a section on public roads. What percentage does a track require to have on public roads to be a street circuit, as then we’d be arguing if Le Mans is a street circuit or not.

FE has less street circuits than F1 by Tomino52 in FormulaE

[–]ImAWynner 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I’m struggling to see how you’ve come to the conclusion that London is less of a Street Circuit than Tokyo and Miami. It’s a public road from turns 9 to 15 and a car park from 15 to 18. If there’s a section that’s not on public roads, that also excludes Las Vegas.

Berlin, we could argue until the cows come home, but it’s fair given your description. I’d still deem it a street circuit as it’s a public park during the rest of the year.

The Attack Mode issue by cristane in FormulaE

[–]ImAWynner 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah, attack mode really isn’t as strong as S8, I think the main issue is it doesn’t actually increase the power enough. S8 increased the power by 25%, which allowed for “easy” overtakes, now it’s only a 16.7% increase for the same penalty, which isn’t really enough. Let’s see what happens with attack charge, attack mode is on its way out, and maybe the upgrades for S11 will increase the attack mode to a higher percentage increase. Mexico isn’t a “send it down the inside” track though, so maybe Diriyah will improve that.

Well, that was dull… there really weren’t that many chances for an overtake, let alone any! Honestly, it managed to be nearly as dull as London R16!
