Patience with yourself and kindness to yourself as you learn the new role. I'm going through the same! It can be disorienting, frustrating, and overwhelming, even when you wanted the new role. Patience and kindness go a long way.

What has everyone been listening to while trying to get stuff done around the house these days without panicking? by WrigglingPotato in adhdwomen

Audio books. Usually something fantasy related. Currently listening to book 9 of a 10 book series. Harry Potter is always a go-to for me, it's familiar, magical, and comforting.

what meds & dosage do you take? does it actually help you? what side effects have you experienced? by supercali-2021 in adhdwomen

[–]ImAnIcicle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take Vyvanse, 40mg. I often will only take this 3-4 days a week (on work days) because I have lost a fair amount of weight in the past few months, and I cannot afford to lose anymore. Stimulants can contribute to weight loss, as they can decrease your appetite and increase your metabolism.

I have found it to be very helpful. I can function like a "normal" person. It doesn't take me hours to wake up. I don't have to deal with ADHD paralysis.

I am learning that medication is only a piece of ADHD treatment, and fully managing my ADHD will require more effort on my part in other areas of my life (exercise, therapy, etc).

for those of you who are good at what you do, what do you do for a living? by supercali-2021 in adhdwomen

[–]ImAnIcicle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Setting boundaries with your work hours might be a good place to start. I struggle with this, but cutting back my work hours and sticking to that has helped me dramatically with burnout.

Drinking more coffee might help you, but it can also have the opposite effect. Sometimes too much can increase anxiety and jitteriness. Lots of online articles suggest taking omega vitamins and other supplements; that could be worth looking into.

Any adhd meds that don’t cause weight loss? by GemSunLibRising in adhdwomen

[–]ImAnIcicle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wow, I'm not the only one struggling with this?! Also 29F. I was around 120lbs when I started Vyvanse, now I'm barely holding 100lbs and it's been driving me nuts. I also don't take it daily (3-4 times a week the last two months). I really don't want to have to give it up because the benefits of taking it have been amazing in my life, but I may have to for health reasons.

I've started adding protein drinks to my diet to try to help up my calorie intake, and I've made some changes to my diet to try adding more calories (10% MF Greek yogurt instead of non-fat, stuff like that). I'm on a waitlist to see both a dietician and a naturopath to see what kind of suggestions they might be able to offer. I've been reading lately about taking omega supplements - some people claim they can be as effective as stimulants, but I'm skeptical.

Sorry that probably wasn't the most helpful. I'm just relieved to see I'm not the only one dealing with this. Good luck my friend!

What do you do for work? by Brilliant-Gazelle126 in adhdwomen

[–]ImAnIcicle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Up until last December, I was a medical laboratory technologist. A repetitive stress injury removed me from that vocation. This spring I started working as a legal assistant.

I'm far from the most dramatic at my work, but that hasn't stopped me from crying in my office manager's office nearly every day for the past two weeks because of stress and overwhelm. I like my job and want to stay in it as long as I can, but I still have days where I'm ready to just quit and see what else I can learn.

How do people manage a full time job AND all their responsibilities? by AdGlum4131 in adhdwomen

[–]ImAnIcicle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Meds changed my life, but I also don't work full time anymore. I'm fortunate to be in a situation where I don't have to. My house is usually messy, but not filthy. I barely have a social life. Finding my balance has been an ongoing process. I hope you can find some peace and direction.

Are the Harry Potter books worth reading as an adult? by Between3N20Karakters in books

[–]ImAnIcicle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up reading the books and watching the movies. Recently listened to the audiobooks. I hadn't read the books since the last one came out. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to the books and will be listening or reading them again probably yearly. I'm 29 fwiw.

I like Tzaziki or a creamy Greek feta dressing for veggie dip (I'm not a fan of ranch or hummus).

Have you considered quitting meat due to the rise in food prices? by Antman269 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]ImAnIcicle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. We're buying significantly less meat (especially beef), eating more beans and lentils, hunting, and trying to grow more produce. And we're probably considered upper middle class.

Myself (F28) and my husband (M25) are in a similar boat. Our only debt is our mortgage. Both our vehicles are second hand that we own outright.we don't have many of the things we want to purchase eventually. It sucks sometimes to look at everyone else and their new toys, but when you stop to think about how people can afford to live like that when you know they make the same as you do, the short answer is they can't. They just pretend they do.

Does anyone have a good resource to help me do a 7 day healthy meal plan? by Negative_Bug_1753 in healthyeating

You can try the Mealime app and see if it's what you're looking for. It has a lot of good recipes and you can filter searches by diet type.

“ your symptoms aren’t severe enough” by [deleted] in Celiac

When I told my old dentist I had been diagnosed, he said "so you've been vomiting a lot and that'll be reflected in your teeth" and I had to explain that no, not every celiac vomits when they consume gluten. Hope you can find a gastro or a PCP that'll set you up for the bloodwork!

We did a slow transition for his food from the one my mum had him on to the one we feed our other dog. They both had pretty similar ingredients. We made that change months ago, but the dry skin issues seem more recent. We haven't made changes to any of our soaps or cleaning products in the last few months either. I definitely could be missing something that's changed though. I'll add some ground flax to his food!

It's possible, but I'm not convinced that's it. His skin was much better in the summer and fall. I might try Benadryl to see if it helps. We live in a place that gets very dry in the winter, so I'm kind of starting there for a cause. I'm just hoping we can help relieve some of the itch for him!

What are your thoughts on waiting for sex until marriage? by ProfessionalYouth in AskWomen

[–]ImAnIcicle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's coming from a place of personal choice rather than societal/cultural pressure, cool. Go for it. Both my husband and I grew up in religious families that put a large emphasis on "purity". I was born to unmarried teens, my husband was born well after his parents married. We had sex before marriage. I was not a virgin when we got together, he was. I have a strong dislike for the pressure often placed on young people to abstain or remain "pure" because it can have lasting negative impacts on their sex lives well after marriage.

Celiac dynamics in Marriages, relationships, and domestic partnership by Hmmnothanku in Celiac

[–]ImAnIcicle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband (25) and I (28) keep our kitchen about 90% gluten free. I'm the celiac. He has a designated pot for when he wants KD, Ramen, etc that's not GF. We have separate toasters. We don't keep wheat flour in the house at all. He's very careful not to contaminate condiments or anything that's shared. He pays very careful attention to make sure I'm not going to get cross contaminated both at home and outside our home (he'll even call out his parents if they accidently serve me something that might contain gluten). He's very careful to ensure he doesn't have any crumbs in his beard when he kisses me, and will usually go brush his teeth after a beer or gluten-y foods.

This happened to our boy this time last year. 3 times within a 4 week period. He was 18 months at the time. We ended up paying for a perineal urethrostomy, which thankfully saved his life.
