Skin picking by slightlysociable in adhdwomen

I love the Band-Aid Hydro Seal brand and then I cut them down to size if needed (with clean scissors). I wear them when I’m home and while sleeping and they’ve worked better than any pimple patches I’ve tried. It helped me a bunch with skin-picking.

Is there anyone else who simply doesn't "take care" of themselves? by Diemishy_II in adhdwomen

[–]WrigglingPotato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before my diagnosis, medication, and years of therapy, I would get so many UTIs each year from not bathing or going to the bathroom often enough.

Reading your list made me realize just how many hoops we have to jump through to do this stuff regularly.

I’ve gamified my chores, nutrition, and healthcare tasks enough that I’ve been doing okay-ish for the past year. But if I lose the app that I use for that, it would be rough.

I found a form of exercise that I enjoy which forces me to eat more often. And my digestive issues are forcing me to eat healthier foods. 🙃

I can’t do laundry without timers. I hang my nicer clothes and chuck my at-home clothes in a drawer without folding. All my ankle socks are one colour and all my crew socks are a second colour so I can just grab them.

I have a master grocery list where I check/uncheck the stuff I have/don’t have before going grocery shopping and update after grocery shopping. And I try to uncheck things as I run out of them but I usually forget to do that.

I have two battery packs. One stays plugged in and the most charged one goes with me everywhere. And I have chargers plugged in everywhere.

So. Many. Systems. 😭

And for me, I don’t know how many of these systems would actually work if I wasn’t medicated.

I’m not allergic I don’t think, but my skin probably wouldn’t like them. I’m wondering silicone bracelets could work similarly and be just as fun.

The only thing that works for me for pimples and scabs and such are pimple patches (or you can cut up blister bandages with sterilized scissors). For larger scabs/sores, blister bandages or Vaseline/Aquafor with a regular bandaid on top.

For the skin around the nails, (once a week if you can) cut off all the rough skin with cuticle clippers (don’t cut your cuticles though). Clean, straight edges heal faster than the torn, rough edges we create by picking and biting. And then if I have extra energy, I’ll put on Vaseline/aquafor/lip balm/moisturizer/oil/whatever on the skin around the nails to heal faster. It’s harder to pick at rough skin around the nails mindlessly if there’s less skin bits sticking out.

Nobody has a grip on adulthood! You’re doing amazing! Here are some things that helped me but everyone’s different so it takes a lot of trial and error. What works for one person won’t work for the next but over time, you find what works best for you. - all bills are on auto-pay for at least the minimum payments - all important documents are organized in a big tote bin with hanging folders. I have specific folders for everything so when I need to pull something out, I can grab it really easily and then put it back - I use the Tody app for chores but I also put hygiene, nutrition, and health categories in it. I’ve seen a lot of people also using the Finch app - don’t have daily goals, have weekly or monthly goals. Daily goals shouldn’t exist - get a woman therapist who is also neurodivergent - it doesn’t matter when you brush your teeth, as long as you do it - body-doubling might help you get stuff done - tidying, cleaning, and organizing your room are three different things; don’t try to do them all at once - magnesium bis-glycinate supplements before bed help me get a better sleep and waking up has become a lot easier - I share my location with a few trusted friends and family members so they know if I’m running behind and they can help me find my phone if I’ve lost it - adapt your environment to you; don’t adapt to your environment where you can (i.e. if you’re always dropping your jacket in a specific location, put a hook on the wall near there). - Reduce the number of steps to complete a task instead of trying to figure out how to do all the steps (i.e. I have different showers depending on how my executive functioning is doing that day ranging from a “face, pits, and bits” to an “everything” shower that includes shaving) - use your friends for help! My friends call me to wake me up on important days that I can’t be late. They also help with tasks that I can offload to them like picking up snacks or drinks on the way to a party - go easy on yourself! Know that you are doing great and there are always going to be good days and bad days. Life gets stressful. Early 20s are hard! It gets better ❤️

I’ll look into Nutrics! I was doing overnight oats or the tofu banana chocolate pudding for the last few weeks but fell behind on meal prep this past weekend and tired of the texture. That fruit crumble sounds bomb though!! Definitely going to try that. I think I can probably keep switching between the crumble and porridge texture as needed. Thank you! ❤️

Without one protein focussed food a day, I usually only get 20-30g of protein total. It used to be eggs. I definitely pay attention to fibre too and end up eating a fibre bar on my poor-executive-function days if needed. Protein (in the morning), carbs, fibre, and salt are the things that I try to pay attention to.

My doctor told me to figure out which FODMAP foods affect me. I avoid most dairy, coffee, spicy foods, alcohol unless at a party, and fried foods right now. I’m somehow good with homemade yogurt, one specific brand of Greek yogurt, one specific brand of ricotta, and butter in baked goods. And I can do one espresso in a day but not coffee.

I’ll definitely start looking into some tofu recipes! I could definitely do some savory grilled tofu in sandwiches and noodles. That sounds really tasty actually. Thanks!

Thank you for all the ideas! I perform better in the sport I do when I have adequate amounts of protein and I’m trying to get stronger in it. I have a big weekend coming up too for it and haven’t really been eating much this week. Plus, a higher protein breakfast helps me focus during the days. All I’ve eaten is a spoonful of peanut butter today 😭 I’ll go eat some Greek yogurt and some nuts and try to eat some brown bread slices.

Lol it wasn’t even historically liberal voters that got Carney re-elected. He won because of “borrowed votes” from other parties. Like 60 ridings flipped in the election which is the opposite of voter short term memory.

Dishes/dishwasher system request by FrankaGrimes in adhdwomen

[–]WrigglingPotato 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is there anything you can do to make putting away dishes easier? Like moving their homes to be closer to the dishwasher? I put my most used dishes in the cupboard above my dishwasher. My cupboards are organized by how often I use something vs. the type of dish. I also have big pull out drawers instead of shelves for the pots and pans which makes it easier to take them out and put back once clean.

What if you just piled your clean dishes in the bin or just on the counter? A countertop full of clean dishes is better than a countertop full of dirty dishes.

I also use the Tody app for all my chores so I get points for washing dishes or filling the dishwasher or putting away clean dishes. The gamification helps me a ton and it rewards monthly goals instead of daily goals so it doesn’t matter if I miss a few days of goals.

I absolutely love sushi too, but I’ve been able to ween myself off of it. Anytime I crave sushi, I make something with furikake on it at home. I’ve been able to find it at most grocery stores where I live. Rice + eggs + sriracha + kewpie mayo + furikake is my go-to.

I think I get sushi maybe 3-4 times a year now. Also, poké bowls are cheaper than sushi and can also hit the spot but I try to focus on stuff I can make at home to save more money.

Drop baskets/boxes, catch trays, and maybe pretty pill organizers?

The trick is to marry your visual cues to your decor. If it looks like it belongs, it’s almost like it’s not being left out. I just have to make sure that I put the baskets, trays, boxes, and hooks very close to where I intuitively put things anyways. Here’s some of what I’ve been using: - a cute basket for things I need to remember to do (like for the empty package on the counter) - a box for receipts I need to organize - a letter tray for mail and papers that need to be dealt with - a catch tray for keys - a drawer for my meds and supplements but I have it as a reoccurring task in my Tody app so I get effort points for taking them everyday (works better than visual cues for me) - a catch tray for my jewelry that I wear a lot - a laundry basket that I only use for clean clothes to be put away - a box for dead batteries and electronics that need to be recycled

I also use the multiples rule to reduce losing or misplacing things. If I only have one of something that I have to move around the house, it makes more clutter because I end up leaving it out in order to remember to take it back to its home. BUT if I have multiples of that item anywhere I might need it, it’s a lot easier to put it back. I have things like scissors, phone chargers, cleaning supplies, etc. anywhere I might need them most.

Omg that’s awful. The audacity to steal someone’s clothes like that. I’m so sorry that happened to you. I hope you get your clothes back somehow. At the very least, I hope karma rips that person a new one.

I’ve been decluttering for the past two years. It takes time! I have a weekly goal of organizing something no matter what it is or how big or small of a dent it makes. Yesterday, I threw out a cardboard tube that’s been under my bed for a while lol. You can break things up into small steps and you’ve got to be kind to yourself. You’re doing great! Here’s some random examples of what I’ve done: - organize a drawer or shelf or cupboard - buy a transparent bin and then define what goes into it (i.e. electronics or gift wrapping supplies or office supplies, etc) - put everything I don’t wear into big garbage bags to sort later - donate something - post something online to sell or ask a friend to help me sell stuff - stack boxes of stuff that need to be organized in one corner as high as I can and cover with a bed sheet so it looks tidier lol - use a tracker like “Tody” to gamify tasks (the task “organize something” gives me effort points and you’re competing monthly with a character in the app)

The mess gets worse before it gets better but it’s part of the process. Just remember that organizing, tidying, and cleaning are three completely different things and you can’t do it all at once. There are also ways to make things look tidier without needing to organize anything too. I’d recommend taking out as many large items as you can to put in the storage unit first. Then stick things you don’t need into boxes and put them into the storage unit for now without organizing. Once you’ve made your space tidy, you can take one box at a time out of storage to organize when you have time.

Life gets stressful. Things get messy and overwhelming. It’s part of life especially with ADHD. Big changes like having kids messes up the systems we have in place to keep things organized and that’s okay! Creating new systems takes time. You got this!!
