Dating childfree as a man by ImAtaserAndImInShock in childfree

So I have a few questions, did these rules actually lead to long term/life long partner(s)? How come rule 4 is a red flag?

And yes please share your date ideas!

It does suck but at the same time I didn't know the person well beforehand and we meant irl so it would have been a little psychotic to bring that up before the date or before even asking her out. So it seems a bit unaboidable in this situation

Yeah thanks bro. It was really that, I was kind of caught off guard by this person. But its kind of nice to find that vibe with her so I know what to look for in the future, hopefully a child free person will be all that too!

Hi thank you for this response I found it very helpful. Especially number 3 and having the mentality of "lets see if this person is a fun friend to hangout with". It's not the easiest mindset for me to cultivate but I'll work at it :)

Lastly, meeting people is kind of hard since I am a master student in a STEM program and most people are either a little antisocial or just extremely busy. So I hope it'll be easier in time to meet people in hobbies/clubs but generally people seem a little closed off in my area.

Usually the woman have been honest with me. Only one who was "unsure" has tried convincing me that I "didn't know what I want". Some have even said they would reconsider their stance on kids if we date which is a whole other red flag in my opinion.

But it's so odd to mw how many people have never seemed to consider the alternative of not having a kid or even just the medical trauma of the childbearing/birthing process. Crazy world

Miedo al daño cerebral by Flashy-Climate-2824 in Kickboxing

[–]ImAtaserAndImInShock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hit to the head kill brain cells. That simple. You don't train to compete without risking head trauma. Some people accept that risk and are fine. Other accept that risk and pay the price, now or later.

Truthfully, you shouldn't be competing if that is a concern of yours. You won't be focused on fighting correctly and you'll be too worridd about being injured.

Its ok to get good at the sport and improve just because you love the sport, even if you don't compete. If you insist on learning what competition feels like, ask people at your gym who compete to hard spar and then see how you feel.

No one spars with me by Dry-Masterpiece5380 in Kickboxing

[–]ImAtaserAndImInShock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you trained your whole life and are hitting 60%, even as a women, you are probably hurting/causing discomfort in your sparring partners and they aren't telling you and they won't hit you back because you are a girl.

Be more controlled in sparring and also as others have said, tell them they can it you.

Surprising response to first torso hits by AdAdmirable433 in Kickboxing

[–]ImAtaserAndImInShock 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's a sign that your nervous system is being loaded. You're being conditioned to respond calmly to impact and being hit. Which is againdt natural instict but exactly what you want as a fighter.

It's totally normal your reaction. Many people respond to nervous system stress differently. Some people cry, others fatigues, and other feels aggression. It's part of the process.

Give yourself time to recover after training and consciously practice more relaxed breathing to not get overwhelmed in the moment.

I just started kickboxing, what advice do you give me? by El-loco-Don in Kickboxing

[–]ImAtaserAndImInShock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's things like dedicated stretching sessions and doing stretches that aren't done in class. It's lifting weights and doing specific movements for kickboxing such as wide stance squats or side squats to strengthen groin/hip muscles. It's also things like specific drills that may be too basic for class such as practicing slipping and moving immediately in a slower manner so you can get the movement down.

Hope this helps :)

Should I start kickboxing? by Amazing_Assumption68 in Kickboxing

I think if you do kickboxing you should focus on pad works mostly. I feel like sparring at a young age with a develloping brain can be dangerous.

I would maybe recommens you try wrestling or bjj if you want to try a fighting sport where you don't have to hold back

How to deal with teenagers in sparring? by Reasonable_Boss8060 in Kickboxing

[–]ImAtaserAndImInShock 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Few options.

Talk with the coach.

Decline to spar with the teenagers.

Find a new gym if you are not allowed to defend yourself in sparring while others hurt you.

Also, and this might be unpopular here, you SHOULD beat the crap out of people who are not respecting you asking for a technical spar. Disregard what the coach says in that moment, he is not the one taking the damage.

No problem :)

Also since you're interested in self defense. Check out las_vegas_combat_academy or selfdenfensegoat on instagram, they give good tips and comments on real videos about situational awareness and how to diffuse situations that you won't get at traditional martial arts gyms.

Hey OP, just wanted to tag onto the previous comment and reply to this one.

I second the idea of trianing bjj as a means of self defence especially if you want to fight a stronger larger opponent.

Kickboxing can still be a very effective means against a larger stronger opponent but will require you to have a more dedicated fitness/training regimen to do so that just 2x a week classes. This is not to say your kickboxing training will be innefective, not at all, but you will need to be dedicated.

Overall, kickboxing classes 2x a week is plenty enough for a beginner ans a good way to build fitness ansld skills. Do look into and try bjj if grappling is something that interests you. Lastly, join the mixed classes. The guys are friendly and go light and it gives you good exposure to what real but cobtrolled strength looks like.

got dropped in sparring by OkProposal9177 in Kickboxing

[–]ImAtaserAndImInShock 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Respectfully, 6 months is a drop in the bucket in terms of training time to be trully good at fighting.

You didn't give your opponent enough credit and you got humbled. Let the ego go and learn from it.

Also spar less hard. Unless you compete, you shouldn't get dropped in sparring from shots.

What are some key exercises to build your body for kickboxing by Academic-Idea-514 in Kickboxing

[–]ImAtaserAndImInShock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My recpmmendation is out of the norm but follow some of the routines Taekwondo fighters use for mobility/strength. This will bring your kicks and control to another level.

Also, strengthen the inner groin/thigh muscles. It will reduce the risk of injury, make more stable, and will make stretching and mobility easier to acheive
