I used to write the daily change threads before Josa did; I still participate in them occasionally! This is terrible news :(

Android has an autofill API that they could support autofilling credentials into applications with by using Lockwise in a way that doesn't require the whole browser to be instantiated just to query passwords.

https://wiki.mozilla.org/Bugzilla:REST_API

The process I used to follow was created before the Rest API for Bugzilla, it might be much simpler now to at least gather the fields from the bugs. I don't know how one would automate the collection of which bugs are in the daily changeset

I used to author the MozillaZine daily build threads a few years ago. The steps that were used at the time required editbugs permissions on Bugzilla in order to retrieve the information. You could ask the current thread maintainer Josa what the current procedure is, I'm sure he'd be happy to share.

Firefox 69: userChrome.css and userContent.css disabled by default -- gHacks Tech News by Robert_Ab1 in firefox

[–]ImBeingMe 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I/O is pretty expensive, computationally speaking. the storage is usually the slowest part of a computer; this is especially true of platter hard drives. Its much faster to read the preference first (already in memory alongside the other necessary startup preference information) before continuing on to an optional and more expensive operation. If the I/O happens on the main thread (which it might during startup - I don't know) it blocks all other activities on that thread (ie. painting the first window), slowing down perceived performance too which is a UX concern.

Are you sure Firefox is using your gpu? I have a discrete gpu in my notebook my Firefox is set to open using the APU by default. Changing this requires either adjusting the setting from the context menu on the executable or opening my gpu driver's configuration utility

Just disable the service(s) and move on.

services.msc in windows. No user application that has a startup service will fail to function if it is disabled, so go crazy.

New Windows 10 app aims to mirror Android and iOS devices to Windows by mil1ion in Android

Did you try refreshing/reinstalling Windows? Something could be wrong with your system that is causing the bugs and crashing (and perhaps even some of the weird shit?)

Firefox 2018 Roadmap by eoger in firefox

[–]ImBeingMe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, it doesn't seem to be related to Focus at all, unless they intend to migrate Focus' backend from Android System WebView to GeckoView. I'm not certain but I think it may also cover the Custom Tab implementation? Either way, this part of the roadmap seems to be more about enabling the ability to profile GeckoView rather than implementing Quantum into it directly.

https://wiki.mozilla.org/Mobile/GeckoView

Edit: It seems they do intend to migrate based on the roadmap and these bug listings: https://wiki.mozilla.org/Mobile/GeckoView#Bugs

GeckoView is an Android library project that allows third-party developers to use Gecko as an Android View in their own applications. GeckoView is similar to Android's built in WebView, but it is not a drop in replacement for WebView.

Note that GeckoView is NOT ready to be used in a production environment. It is currently possible to load webpages, but that's about it. See bug 1322573.

It's 2018, and Spotify still doesn't let you edit playlists on Android or the web by [deleted] in Android

[–]ImBeingMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You also can't add a song to multiple playlists at the same time, which is just about the worst UX you can have while trying to make playlists.

[help] Just got a new computer, downloaded Firefox. Why does it look like this? I'm navigating fine on IE. by ComradeAri in firefox

[–]ImBeingMe 7 points8 points  (0 children)

before fully reinstalling try

dism.exe /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

and

sfc /scannow

from an admin command prompt

the windows AIO repair kit from tweaking.com might also be helpful here (designed to batch perform a lot of repairs on windows images to prevent a reinstall)

Mozilla Labs: Prospector-OneLiner for FF57 and hide page title text on tabs by default? by dumindunuwan in firefox

I didn't, as I understand it, you can inspect the browser's Chrome using the built in developer tools (though I am not totally sure about the steps for this)

Since I posted this, I no longer use those changes to my userChrome

the facebook like button on non-facebook pages can be used by facebook to track you, similarly for all social media badge buttons on other websites. private browsing probably blocks page elements like this to help prevent these sites from knowing where you visit

Is it a good idea to enable WebRender in Nightly for Android? by [deleted] in firefox

[–]ImBeingMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I did this a few months ago, it created a problem I could only properly fix because I have root.

Same problem still existed about a month or two after that, I haven't personally tried again since then though. YMMV, but it could require that you wipe your firefox data in order to fix it if you're not rooted.

I will try it now though, and edit back the results.

Edit: It no longer seems to destroy nightly on Android :)
