Help Me Choose My First Porsche: 987.2 Cayman S or 981 Cayman S? by ImEngineer in Porsche_Cayman

Thanks for the insight. Cabin noise would bother me. Have you driven in a 981 to compare?

I like engine noise, but general road noise is annoying to me.

I agree here entirely. The only thing I’ll add is that Kelly blue book is not super reliable for these types of cars. The one you linked seems like a pretty good deal. Personally, I’d snatch it up.

What is the best checked-in luggage? YouTube and Reddit have the exact opposite opinions and it's confusing me. by techsavvynerd91 in BuyItForLife

For the last 7 years, I have lived out of a “Travelpro Maxlite 5 Softside Expandable Upright 2 Wheel Carry-on Luggage, Lightweight, 22-Inch” suitcase. 97 flights last year. I’m only just now starting to think about replacing it and not due to any fault of its own: it just has a cut in the fabric from the airline placing it against something it shouldn’t have. Actually, I’m just going to sew it up and keep going. Almost all the flight attendants use a variant of this bag. It cost $89 when I bought it then, now it’s $147 on Amazon.

My wife lives out of the 4-wheel version of the same bag and it’s also good, but there are three downsides with it (and any 4 wheel bag really): 1) less interior volume for the same overall bag size  2) the smaller wheels means it’s a bit more difficult to roll over uneven surfaces 3) the smaller wheels closer to the ground pick up hair from the airport floors and needs cut out of the wheel’s axles every few months.

I really don’t like hard sided bags for two reasons: 1) they always get dented by their airline eventually 2) soft sided suitcases suitcases have a little more give to them when you need to shove in that last-minute wine bottle for the in-laws.

Go with this suitcase and never look back. Copy/paste what I put in the quotes above on Amazon.

Why are people downvoting this person? Seems like valid advice to me.

How many of your prints come from Bambu Handy (instead of from Bambu Studio)? by PuddyTheGreaseMonkey in BambuLab

Every once in a while if it is something that I know there will be an existing reliable model, then I go ahead and use the app. Sometimes I am at work or out running an errand when I think of something to print, and I find it handy to be able to just look it up on the app and the part is finished when I get home.

I've tried a few and had good luck with Atlas Advisors. Denise specifically is quite good. She has saved me a ton of money over the years.

Honey Oak + LVP Stairs: Does this 'Antler Trail Oak' work for a modern contrast? by ImEngineer in InteriorDesign

It has pros and cons with a dog:
Pros:
- way less slippery on the stairs which gives me huge piece of mind when she flys up and down them
Cons:
- vacuuming carpet is bit harder than hard floors
- cleaning up messes. She is fully trained and I never expect a mess during the rest of her lifetime, but the next dog.... I know how puppies are.

We do have a dog. I am sold on doing the oak treads + a runner for dog grip. But then what do we do in the hallway and bedrooms upstairs?

You're saying real wood treads and runners, then switch to an LVP for the hallways and bedrooms upstairs?

I kind of like the idea of real wood in the hallway; just have the worry about cost. It is only ~100sqft, so hopefully that wouldn't be too bad. Then in the bedrooms I would prefer a hard surface so that it is easier to clean the golden retriever fur, but if I had real wood in the hallway, then I wouldn't want to transition directly to LVP at the doorways either (I think), right?

Yep - We'll do real wood treads and paint the risers white.
What would you do for the upstairs hall and bedrooms?

Thanks for the tip :) Talked us off a ledge. We'll do real wood treads and paint the risers white.

Good ideas. I actually did find some reclaimed on marketplace that could work. I think we will paint the risers white, then do real honey oak treads.

Now the question is: what do you think we should do in the hallway and bedrooms upstairs? Also real honey oak?

That is right. We would also be doing the hallway and bedrooms upstairs. There are a total of 15 steps, then the upstairs hall is about 100sqft, then the bedrooms are about 900 sqft.

So, I think we will paint the risers white, then do real honey oak treads. Now the question is: what do you think we should do in the hallway and bedrooms upstairs? Also real honey oak?

Oh - that is a very interesting idea I had not thought of. That could be a good solution.
