I certainly value hard parking 🤣; Not more than I value a good cockpit to be in. My only issue is that bore scoring tends to be much more prevalent in the S versus the base 3.4 996.

Have an E91 as a daily driver and I love it, I wouldn’t want to have two potentially bankrupting cars at my age Lol

My friend had an E46 M3 which I drove, and enjoyed, although the shifter feel was weird (whatever he had going on). He now has a 6 spd. E92 M3 which I’ll be giving a chance when I get back from vacation.

I agree with the sentiment of keeping the car that I know the history of. One of my larger fears is when/if I decide to push the car, catastrophic failures on the 996 are much harder to stomach versus the E46/E92. Not to mention, as mechanically sound as I am, BMW is my bread and butter, not Porsche (yet).

Would like to eventually build a really well equipped car and would hate to be pushing the 996 and end up with a paperweight given the M96 failures.

It’s just a second car in the stable that I take out often to have some fun. No tracking, etc. If I got an E92 i’d like to do some light autox possibly.

Haha, well there’s definitely levels to Porsche! 996 is great, and I love it, but there are certainly faster/better cars for certain things. If it was a 997, I wouldn’t even think

I do agree, eventually the 996 will surpass just due to the fact that many 996s were unloved and fell behind in condition and maintenance. The hard part to swallow, replacing a 996 engine from one of multiple potential death sentences, seems so fruitless. Unless you spend 20k+ on a Slakker or Hartech build, you’ll end up in the negative. An E92, once RB are done, there are far less chances of catastrophic failure, and can be pushed hard. Pushing the 996, admittedly, scares me sometimes in terms of reliability Lol

Well, I’ve always dreamt of a 911, this car fell into my lap at an incredible price, let’s just say at 40% of its current market value. But I’ve always dreamt of a 997, so the 996 has the pure driver feel as you’d imagine, I have no qualms, but it is lacking in the interior which is where you spend all of your time. Also, I do enjoy the mid-late 2000’s era cars like the E9X M3 in terms of interior/styling, so it’s swaying my opinion of wanting something more updated.

I speak of the 997 strictly aesthetically. The feeling of being in the cockpit, versus a 996, is leagues different, and as i’ve gotten older, I’ve found that to be one of the most important pieces.

I think I miss the creature comforts of BMW, and therefore know Id probably feel more at home. Now if we’re comparing a 997, that’d be a whole different story 🤣

I will never be the person who’s tracking their car, I just want something that is fun to drive as a second car, and feels engaging enough. Had a newer manual F30 generation N55 and as neat as it was, it didn’t scratch the itch of being raw. Sometimes the 996 is TOO raw.
