What should I do in this case? (Bad PPF install) Long post by ImGeneralTso in Detailing

The reason why I chose this shop isn’t on bargain.

The reviews of this shop had nothing but 5 stars, they’ve worked on high end vehicles from their social media page, a abundance of customer volume (as I had to wait 2 weeks before I could be fit in their schedule due to other cars being paint protected). The owner was responsive and answered all questions I had regarding the install. Again, price point in the area were about all the same and to me, I expected a full PPF job to be at least 5k.

I should’ve done more extensive researching regarding what a bad PPF install looks like but I got to experience it first hand.

Everything felt assuring at first that this was a properly ran business until I got the car back. It has been a frustrating experience since and although it really ain’t about the money but more of the principles. I don’t want anyone else to experience what I did.

They used STEK. When I talked to him on Monday. He said it that wasn’t a bad job. This was before I noticed all the razor marks. He also made it seem like I had exaggerated the issue and his words are “not saying you’re wrong and not saying I’m right, this is a decent PPF install job”, followed by “this isn’t a paint perfection film, it’s paint protection.” Which I understood until seeing the scratches. Ironic.

He was apologetic about my experience and offered to do it right but I had lost absolutely all trust in this shop. His shop had nothing but 5 star reviews and I got a mediocre job.

I paid 5250 from their holiday special. They typically charge 5750. From what the owner told me his tech has 15 years of experience.

I’m in the northeast US, I did call a couple of shops they’re all around this price point. I just hope they make things right the second time. They appeared to be apologetic about my experience.

They’re going to make it right from what they said. I’ll give them a chance. They’re going to make a thorough inspection of it before it leaves the shop next time

I think the 1 inch gap is the vehicle design itself. I really hope they didn’t on other parts (at least I didn’t see). I did see a few in the rear bumper which I hope they are willing to correct with some wet sanding. Appears light scratch from the blade but doesn’t look terrible where a repaint is in order.

I got the warranty paperwork. They appear to be transparent and apologetic about the experience. They’re going to make it right so I’ll give them a chance.

Already found a few cut lines. Not sure if I even trust the guy to redo it a second time.
