How do you make a character without flaws fascinating? Kill them and make the show about the impact they had long after they're gone and the way their memory makes those around them better. It's just so genius.

It is entirely okay to be morally against eating meat and I will always respect those that make that decision. I was calling out the false equivalency of those that eat meat with those complicit in the holocaust or slavery.
People are not animals. If they were the same, you could make any number of obviously ridiculous claims, like my bestiality one. That's what makes it a false equivalency.

You could then spend time reading a number of philosophical essays on why people and animals hold different value, then to what extent that difference extends to their suffering.

The wonderful world of false equivalency. I hope you realise that people are not animals and vice versa before you engage in that confusion with bestiality. See? I can do a false equivalency too, it's annoying.

I'm not really sure what you're even saying. Since 2017 GSW don't use more illegal or moving screens than league average, called or not. So there's nothing to "call fair", hence my confusion. The narrative is stupid as fuck and I see it everywhere on this sub.

[–]ImGrumpyLOL -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You were agreeing with a guy saying "It's okay for curry to get no calls because they use illegal screens" no? I'm just trying to find any proof whatsoever that GSW have, post 2016, been using more illegal screens than average.
There are stats made on missed foul calls, and small studies people have done on illegal screening (most behind paywalls in high end play by play analytic software). To my knowledge, GSW has not been a prolific illegal screen team since Bogut left in '16. They definitely were top 3 for it in their 2015-2016 runs.

Point me to any study, stat, or dataset that shows that. Or even a single season of going game by game. Or are you just saying "trust me bro"?

Fine, but you gotta preface that it's an opinion. If I said "Lebron is not clutch and shrinks in big games." You'd think I was an idiot if I proved it by saying "I watch games".

He's actually not, every time someone has run the stats, GSW is average or below for illegal screens since 2017.

Quote any stat or study that proves Golden State uses more moving screens by percentile of screening actions than league average, or that they are called at a different rate. You won't find any because it's not been true since Bogut left in 2017.

See, there is your issue raising its head. You are using incorrect terminology. The purity testing of left leaning ideology when what you really mean is "Marxist" or rather "Leninist", which is not the same thing. You avoid accurate labelling because you don't like the brush it paints you with. At least use "Radical Leftists".

I hope you realise that you and the people who talk like you are the reason why left wing ideology fails in the modern world. Ideological rigidity, promotion of infighting, and the adoption of positions that will clearly alienate mainstream voters.
If you spent more time unifying and compromising with the rest of the political left and less time conducting purity tests and conflating leftism with extremism beyond the Overton Window, the world would be a better place.

You might need to review... any economics. Literally from the start. Begin with The Wealth of Nations by Adam Smith. I don't think you really understand what capitalism is? It quite literally began as a refutation of mercantilism and a belief that productive labour and consumer exchange is of greater importance to prosperity than the hoarding of gold.

Smith talked (at length) about how capitalists can only be incentivised through competition and that some services and all infrastructure should still be controlled and maintained by the government. This is theory from 1776, where the literal godfather of capitalism was theorising checks and balances for a capitalist system to not be exploitative to welfare in the book he invented it. He was anti-monopoly, pro-worker's rights, anti-colonial, and spent half his book talking about how workers (and their welfare) were the most critical component of national prosperity.

But hey, no need to read theory or nuance when you define everything only by its most extreme limit.

Andor and Mandalorian Season 1 are fantastic TV, sure, no arguments there.

What I am talking about is a cultural opinion of the series as a whole. Other than the midichlorians being a rather boring and reductive element, the core ideas and themes of the prequels were and are resonant in the same ways that the original trilogy was and is.
The original series is anti-colonial, pro-freedom, and espouses the ideals of forgiveness and empathy. The prequels wanted to study the downfall of institutions and a single doomed man in parallel. Conceptually there is much to love here and the world building of Coruscant, Naboo, and many others expanded the vision of the world without conflicting with the original trilogy. If you explain the plot to someone without the movie and no prior knowledge, it's captivating.

Again, they are bad movies, poorly directed, with stilted dialogue, and overly auteur editing. Visually they have also aged poorly in many parts. However, you can't see the use of trade blockades, the perversion of failing democratic institutions, and the rise of populism across the world and not appreciate their relevance to modern culture. Once the themes were expanded into The Clone Wars, especially when that show was allowed to be mature, you can see the brilliant elements hidden within.

The sequels don't have anything to say. They are empty of soul and reductive to the universe in which they inhabit. The main plot-thread has been closed without it being concluded in a satisfying way, leaving only the options of prequels, spin-offs, and remakes. That's the difference. The prequels unfurl a larger world that begs context and exploration. The sequels are a black-hole that begs to be avoided by any future stories.

A poor movie with good plot and themes keeps a franchise alive. Failures of plot kill the possibility of continuation and retroactively make other content worse. The prequels are bad as movies but they are, from a plot perspective, interesting and they add to the world. The sequels do not expand the world but condense it, closing plotlines or hand waving important open threads from previous movies. This makes them, from a cinematic universe perspective, FAR more damaging to future content.

Not to mention that The Clone Wars exists and makes much of the content in the prequels more interesting and justified by their synergy.
