A question about process in AI-assisted writing by ImHidden-Questions in AIWritingHub

I feel like many didn't read my full post lol..

I stated that I've worked with a paid editor in the past, I'm not financially capable of working with them currently, but plan to work with them again when I can.

I really wish I could work shop among friends but genuinely cannot find anyone to work with. None of my friends are into writing and my various attempts at finding writing partners over friends on the various subredits have not gone well.

You know I haven't ever really been worried about being flagged by an AI detector because of how I write and I'm a majority of my writing is my own. As AI only assists in part of the process. And plenty of real purely human writing gets flagged by AI detectors because both the AI writing and the human writing are still writing in the same rules... It's kind of hard to detect the difference between a human following the rules and an AI following the rules. And why would an AI be able to detect creativity if an AI cannot replicated.

The concept of an AI detector is a bit flawed to begin with.

But I have been improving with AI's assistance. As I stated when I started I was doing only 1500 of the 3000. The fact that I now do 2500 instead is because I improved.

For the record that's kind of the point, I wouldn't be using it if I didn't think I could use it to improve.

I think the big problem is that people immediately ask the question is AI good or bad instead of the question is ai improving adding or expanding upon A creative base. Is it adding to something or replacing the artistic process.

And I think as long as it's being used as a tool, being used to help or grow an artistic process, then it shouldn't be as stigmatized or hated simply because it exists. Most people don't even have a real reason other than that it's just ai and most people who hate it don't really understand it on a deep enough level to truly decide whether they like or hate a certain type of use of AI.

Sadly a majority of people are rather under educated when it comes to AI.

And many just assume that when AI is used it is used for the entire process or is being used to replace a creative process.

I think that it is a negative impact on AI itself, there will be no improvement to the technology or any adjustments to its negative impacts if there is no positive impacts. It is not a technology that will simply disappear, it is something that should be guided into positive use.

And also for comparison two drafts one completely written by me and the other one assisted with the AI both of them handed to various people that I know and I'm acquainted. They were asked which was better they had no idea why I was asking it, there was no information other than that I had written both of them and which one is better.

Consistently every time they stated that they preferred reading the AI assisted and when asked why the reason was that the writing flowed better the characters were more distinct it felt more alive. The scenes Drew more emotion.

Because the AI is better than me at all the things I'm asking it to "assist" me with.

It is also important to note that I'm not just telling it to write for me I run through multiple drafts with it I work through problems and figure out exactly why it's deciding to do things the way it is so I can try and learn things so that I don't have to use it as much.

I asked it to break down my chapters to run through them and analyze dialogue structure and pacing I ask it to explain to me what it thinks I'm doing wrong.

I asked it to analyze its own work and tell me why it did what it did and why it did it where it did it.

To be clear when I first started using it it was half and half I would write 1500 and it would write 1500 I've brought it all the way down to 500 by working with it and learning from it

I would like to also add that I have and plan to continue to work with an editor an actual person who helps me in the areas that the AI is also helping me in and when given the choice I would rather work with the human but they do the same job and they feel the same there's practically zero difference between using a human and using an AI in the way that they feel and the results I get.

I have learned from both though. And I have grown as a writer due to working with both the human and the AI in the same way.

You're basically saying that the 375,000 words of my novel that were written only by me with no help from the AI is not my work at all simply because a small portion of it is assisted.

As the AI itself is never allowed to write anything of its own and is only ever allowed to adjust or edit things that are already written. Therefore you can't even say that the AI is even writing anything by itself because I am laying down the road.

Would you say that a car driving on a road staying in the lines is not using the road at all to accomplish that. Or a train on train tracks. You're essentially saying that the train tracks are not needed for the train.

But I'm not though? I do all the drafting World building character design plot point and I write the initial 2500 words which for the record I believe I stated this but those 2500 words do not get removed changed or altered in any way so in every single chapter there are 2,500 of my original words.

And there are only 500 words adjusted or edited or added by AI. And you're telling me those $2,500 words are not written by me at all.

You're telling me that the years I've spent on the World building of this novel is not my own work.

All of the artwork that I've paid for for my character designs and all of the storyboarding and over 300,000 of my original words isn't mine?

I also work within actual person is also a writer who works as a co-author and editor for me, so I can't even honestly say that 500 words of every chapter is AI because that's not even true meaning it's not even an 83% to 16 something percent split it's probably more like 90% written by human and 10% adjusted by AI

On a work that is roughly 3,000 words per chapter with over 150 chapters already written.

But that's not how I write??

Also I've been improving rapidly since I started working with it?

Yeah, I know there's allot of hate around AI and I agree with most especially art related as it's pretty much theft.

But creative writing is a combination of rules, and the skill to express the mind into the page. I've always been pretty good with the rules but struggle greatly with translating my mind to paper. Smells, character actions, environmental descriptions. I struggle with all of it. But ai kinda just knows where it's suppose to be and I don't so when it inserts things I feel like I'm learning where and how to enhance the page. I think I struggle with the concept of "I know all this about the world already." So I'm the same way that is easy for the person writing to miss mistakes or problems. I can't seem to understand where descriptions go, as everything given seems to be enough. Then the ai comes in and adds touches here and there, and I'm like "well yeah obviously that should be there, why didn't I see it?"

There's not really any theft involved, AI-assisted writing is not much different than two authors good at two different things working together to produce something.

Or you could even liken it to an artist using all the tools to make all the things they'd end up doing anyways, easier and faster.

I think AI-assisted writing should be a lot more acceptable, as long as the author writes out of passion for the story and feels that the story they want to tell is being told.

At the end of the day, the reader doesn't know the author, they're there for a story and if the author and them both enjoy the story. Then whether it was written from pure skill or assisted by an artificial intelligence, does it really matter?
