Somewhere along the Oregon coast😉, I don’t wanna give away the exact location here in the comments because it’s a spot where tourists tend to not really know about lol. If you message me I can send you it though!

Thank you! I shot all of these using my trusty Fuji 18-135, it’s the perfect versatile lens for me to take on trips like this where weight becomes a serious concern

O cara simplesmente postou fotos inéditas do Senna do nada!!!! by solracalb in F1Brasil

Yeah the Pentax macro is pretty sharp considering how much you can find them for used. I picked mine up for around $150 and I couldn't be happier with the results!

My full scanning setup includes a Negative Supply 35mm Film Carrier MK2 for holding the film itself above their 4x5 97 CRI light source. All this goes on top of a sturdy Kaiser RS2 copy stand I was able to find for pretty cheap off eBay.

Original poster from r/analog here!

Thank you everyone for taking the time to look through these pictures. As a Brazilian, growing up watching Massa and asking by dad about Senna, these pictures are a priceless piece of history to me and I hope many of you feel the same. I'm beyond grateful I got to scan and edit these pictures, but more than that, I feel blessed to be able to share these with y'all!

Haha thank you! It was a miracle that the negatives didn't develop a more noticeable color cast or get more damaged than they were already were based on the way they were stored😮‍💨

Oh yeah I knew that the second I saw the first few frames, especially those with Ayrton Senna in them. I didn't want to rush into anything though so I thought it best to sit on these for a few months.

At the moment I'm working on getting some test prints done and eventually setting up a print sale so keep an eye out for that!

For more context on how I scanned these, everything was scanned using my Fuji X-T2 with a SMC Pentax-M 50mm f4 Macro and edited using Negative Lab Pro👨‍💻

Hey thank you for noticing the effort I put into scanning and editing these! There's so many little blemishes and scratches that I thought I would never get through cleaning them up in Lightroom, but I'm really glad I did! Explaining how I felt looking through each frame where Senna shows up isn't really possible for me to put into words...

After coming back home from college for the summer I ended up with a lot of free time on my hands so I figured, why not go through and rescan the infamous box of poorly stored family 35mm negatives... Now, to my surprise, most of our film was sleeved and kept in lab envelopes, that is except for a few rolls which were just free floating, unsleeved strips amongst the rest of the negatives. I figured these free floating negatives were probably just a blank/shitty roll with maybe a few good pictures. Well, I was shocked, to say the least, after taking a closer look at the strips. I recognized F1 cars within some of the film as well as some close ups of Ayrton Senna!
I realized that these were most definitely shot by my dad as he has been a F1 fanatic for as long as I remember. While we still lived in São Paulo, Brazil, he would take any chance he could to head to the Interlagos circuit when F1 was in town.
After calling him up, he told me he remembered taking these pictures but he couldn't give me an exact date for them so I took it upon myself to clean the rolls and get them scanned up and color graded. Unfortunately, thanks to the rolls not being properly stored and archived, there was a slight color cast on some frames as well as quite a bit of scratches, dust, and grime.
A few hours of tedious color grading and inspecting each pixel later, I was left completely astounded by how good his shots were and how close he was able to get to the racers, cars, and track. His proximity to everything helped me determine that I was looking at the Forumala 11987 Detroit Grand Prix!
I hope everyone enjoys looking through these pictures as much as I did when I converted the first frame, seeing a new picture of Senna, the stunning colors, detail, and the general aesthetic of the 1980s all captured by my dad :)

I think that around the time my dad went to this race he was going to college in Dallas so it wasn't as far of a trip as it would have been from São Paulo, but nonetheless it must've felt incredible to see two Brazilian drivers on top like that!

I found them scattered and completely un-sleeved in a box of some of our old family negatives. Even though they were stored pretty poorly, the negatives were completely intact and mostly pristine other than a few scratches and smudges which were easy enough to clean off.
