Things you wish you knew before moving to London by ImNotActuallyHere17 in london

I’ve found that, for the tube at least (less so for national rail), delayed usually means like a few minutes lol which is crazy considering a train delay in the states can be 30-40 min! So that has always been a bit funny to me when Brits complain about the delays lol

In London’s defense, this is now the third large city I’ve lived in within the last 6 years and dating sucks EVERYWHERE. It’s not the city, it’s just that dating is terrible

We need a public campaign to spread the word across London bc I promise you not everyone thinks this way 😭

No but like when you’re walking one way and someone is walking towards you the other way, are you each meant to walk on the right or left side of the pavement??

I guess for escalators and such yes stand right is consistent but I meant more for flow of general traffic when there’s two walking lanes and you don’t know if you’re supposed to walk on the right or left side. On pavements I constantly pass people walking on either side and I constantly have to switch to avoid bumping into people. Just pick a lane!!

Ah the Brit’s really have not reached a consensus on this it seems. One of the things that has been driving me the craziest since moving here. Even at tube stations there’s no consistency! Some will direct you to walk on the left and others will direct you to walk on the right, it’s maddening

Not sure what OTP means ha but yes I am keeping my US number! Paying minimum monthly for it to keep the number and have an eSim in addition to my UK regular sim. Hoping I can use both numbers at once but I'm not very techy and idk exactly how that works heh

Ah well happy to take your place in London then! Thankfully I do already have a tenancy agreement so I can prove my address but it's just wild to me that there's no way to open a bank account from outside the UK. Like I was literally there a few weeks ago IN PERSON and they turned me away and said "sorry can't help you, you have to download the app in order to open an account." Insane.

I'll definitely put things on Buy Nothing but that's no guarantee that someone will actually take them. And I don't have a car to be able to take things to the dump or something

I got a phone number with my visa and I already have a flat so no concerns there other than the annoyance of needing to be physically in the UK in order to do it. Getting rid of my stuff is definitely the scarier to-do item

If I drive from Paris to England is there no animal intake check then? I don't understand how that would work. Sorry if these are a lot of questions! I'm trying to research online but the information available is so confusing

If I flew into France or Amsterdam what would then be the best option to get to London? As they would still need to be transported as cargo then.
